your first mistake was not buying the dlcs. yes, I know they are like 500$, but the game is so vastly improved by them that not buying them is basically shooting yourself in the foot. I don’t know off the top of my head which ones add the MOST necessary mechanics, but I can say with certainty that the most recent ones are mostly flavour and niche mechanics, so you don’t need them. if you have a really limited budget then I would hazard that Art of War and Conquest of Paradise are probably the first few you want to pick up.

as for how I stuck with the game long enough to learn it… I honestly don’t even know. probably a mix of nationalism for the nation I was playing and undiagnosed autism. I learned the game on no dlcs and it was BAD but I had the primal need for my daily mappies so I stuck it out. but uh if you don’t have that then idk what to tell you.

Few games seem so hostile to my human brain as Europa Universalis 4. I picked it up for 4 dollars (w/o DLC) on GOG because the idea of a historical sim sounded cool, and I'm trying to rectify some of my historical illiteracy, but god damn if that UI isn't just information overload. I get that everything is there for a reason (you probably need all of it to successfully run an empire), and I don't want to give up on it just yet, but even the beginner tutorial videos I've watched are like 30 minutes long and barely cover 1/100th of everything on screen. I just wanna ask those who play; how were you successfully onboarded without immediately bouncing off?

This is heresy and I refuse to stand for it.

The tribunal did defeat Dagoth Ur. Many, many, times. The problem is that he always came back. He also was certainly not alone - he had the full force of the 6th House behind him.

The Three could have destroyed Dagoth Ur after the first time. The problem is that would have destroyed them too, because their power came from the exact same source. Because he couldn’t be killed, then, he grew in power and the Three grew weaker until they really couldn’t kill him.

Even when he captured Sunder and Keening, it was by ambush, not in open combat, and only against Ayem and Seht. When Vehk showed up, he drove Dagoth away and saved the other Tribunes.

Dagoth was not a genius or a god. He was a madman and a traitor who brute-forced a situation in which he held all the cards. Remember, only the Three are worthy of worship. The Sharmat is false. To follow the Devil of Dagoth means only death.

i've said it before and i'll say it again, do you ever think about how dagoth ur managed to hold the red mountain for hundreds & hundreds of years? it was 3vs1, talk about fake ass tribunal gods. or alternatively dagoth was so competent with his godhood and warfare that the tribunal just couldn't secure access to the heart no matter what even though they desperately needed to replenish their powers yearly. whichever it was, almsivi were so scared that all they could do effectively was to scribble booklets of how he's the satan. it's pretty clear who's actually worth the worship here tbh

This is revisionist history. Communism destroyed itself. Stalin did not need outside help to murder seven million people for the crime of wanting freedom from the Russian boot.

I Think That This Statue Of Morihaus Represents The Rot At The Heart Of TES IV.

I think that this statue of Morihaus represents the rot at the heart of TES IV.

Because this is fundamentally NOT Morihaus. It is, because the game says it is, but… you’re telling me THIS is Morihaus the man-bull? Morihaus breath-of-Kyne? The father of all Minotaurs?

Oblivion was obsessed with doing shit like this. Dumbing down and simplifying and normalifying good and interesting lore. They did the same thing with Cyrod itself, and with Pelinal (who was VERY CLEARLY written to be the setting’s version of Achilles, but instead was depicted as a High Medieval crusader.)

Was it really too hard to give us a game that wasn’t solely based on Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings, Todd?

Caesar was notably not corrupt, actually. His big thing was purging corruption from the Roman republic. You know who was corrupt? The Optimates - the old school conservative senators (like Brutus, Cassius, Decimus, Trebonius… all the big names in the conspiracy) who were perfectly happy getting rich off the system and were threatened by Caesar’s progressive policies.

get your history facts right, kids.

history fact: this is not historically accurate, Caesar actually planned to stay home with his wife that day because she had a nightmare about him dying and didn’t want him to go

and then decimus brutus came by and said “lmao are you going to listen to a WOMAN? nerd” so of course he had to go

guys, not to spoil anything but i have an announcement! everyone on tbe 15th of March, let's all go to the senate so I can tell you guys! 🫃

Oh sweet Nerevar. Should have bewared the Ides of March.

I realised only this morning that oh, hey, it's the Ides of March, maybe I should draw a lil' thing. It took me about two hours to paint this one in Photoshop - based on the Death of Caesar by Vincenzo Camuccini.
