Laughing Like We Used To. (Valentines Day Marxolor fanfic)

Happy valentines day! As a treat, heres a marxolor fic i wrote! honestly cant believe i finished this in time..

SYNOPSIS!: Ever since he came back from another dimension, Magolor has been pretty down and not like himself. He wants to get into mischief like he used to, but is scared of people hating him after what he did and not taking it lightly. Marx vows to help get him into some harmless trouble and the two go on a date!

The Lor Starcutter, Magolor’s beloved ship, was parked in a sunny field in Dream Land. After finding a way to travel between the Dream Kingdom and Dream Land itself, Magolor often set up shop in both places. Even if a lot of people still didn’t trust him, life was ok. Not amazing, not awful, just.. Ok. Magolor had kept a pretty clean record ever since his return to Planet Popstar, but as much as he hated to admit he did miss the more mischievous side of him, the one that wasn’t afraid to get into trouble. But now? He couldn’t even think about playing a prank or anything of the likes, lest he end up with everyone believing he hasn’t changed one bit since the whole incident.

Currently, he was tiredly typing away on the Lor’s console, just doing daily maintenance. He had just woken up, and considering his sleep schedule was all kinds of messed up he was still quite groggy. That was, at least, until he heard a loud zap behind him and someone yell in his ear. “HEY, HEY! Mags!” His cat-like ears shot up in alarm as he whipped around. *That* certainly woke him up. “I told you to stop teleporting onto my ship without permission, didn’t I?”

Magolor said with a sigh, although he couldn’t hide a slight endearing smile. Marx and him had been good friends ever since he’d found his lifeless body in the middle of space and saved him by bringing him onto the ship and healing him. The two quickly became friends, and even a little closer than friends. Marx had lived on the Lor for a long time, but had moved back out when Magolor had gone missing during his time in another dimension. Although, he had plans to move back in. He had missed being roommates with the Halcandran, even if he got flustered when he tried to admit it.

“I know, I know, but what am I SUPPOSED to do? Knock on the door? I used to live here, y’know...” Magolor snorted. “I mean, yeah? That's what normal people do with doors.”

“Good thing I'm not a normal person!” Marx retorted as the two giggled about the conversation. That was one thing Magolor loved about Marx, he was the funniest guy he knew. And their stories were so similar, even if Marx didn’t regret what he did quite as much as Magolor, he could at least understand a little bit what he had gone through.

“I promise I'll have your room set up soon enough.” Magolor spoke, excited for things to return to normal, or at least as normal as they could be.

“What are you doing cooped up in the ship’s control room?” Marx started again, Magolor just blinked and took his gloved hands off the control panel for a moment.

“Same stuff I do everyday?”

Magolor insisted awkwardly. 

“Sounds boring.”

Magolor chuckled, hovering over just to bat affectionately at the Pom Pom’s on Marx’s hat, almost teasing him in a way. “You think everything is boring unless it involves some kind of..” Marx interrupted him, finishing the sentence. “Chaos?” Magolor smiled. “Yes. That.” Marx shook his head a little, like a dog. The pom pom’s on his hat making a soft jingling sound despite not having any bells attached. Magolor didn’t even question this, his boyfriend broke the laws of physics a little too often for him to acknowledge it each time. Marx darted his eyes away for a moment, before speaking up. “Y’know, ever since you came back you’ve been... Different.”

Magolor tried to stop himself from having his ears flop back sadly, but he was unable. He looked down at Marx. “What do you mean?” Marx fidgeted with his claws on his wings, he wasn’t good with feelings but he didn’t want to make Magolor feel guilty. “That was random wasn’t it? Sorry!! You’ve just been… safer, in a way. I remember when we used to laugh for hours while causing trouble all around. Now all I ever see you do is lock yourself in here or run the shoppe.” Magolor averted his gaze, but nodded a little. “I know what you mean. I feel the same way. I don't think things wil;l ever really be the same for me.” Marx stepped over, wrapping a wing around Magolor lovingly. “I’m not saying you have to be full blown EVIL, obviously. But– what if you could just live a little? Without worrying that every little thing you do is going to make everyone hate you? We can always get into mischief together, just more harmless this time as a compromise.”

Marx blinked, realizing how sappy that sounded. He blushed a little. “I haven’t gone SOFT, I just want to be able to have fun with you in a way we can both enjoy.” Magolor perked back up, smiling as he pulled Marx into a full blown hug underneath his cape.

“You’re surprisingly good with advice, you know that?”

Magolor purred, laughing softly. His grasp was surprisingly tight for a person with no arms. “Ah- uh.. Yes, but you’re SQUISHING me Maggie!” Marx giggled, complaining a little but not trying to pull away even a little bit. Magolor softened his hands grip before eventually pulling away. “Y’know what? We could go out, just like old times, consider it a date.” Marx’s deep violet eyes lit up as he jumped on his feet excitedly, stimming. “YES!! I’ll go get ready, it’ll be the BEST and you can count on it!” He beamed, grinning with his sharp fangs. Magolor nodded with a smile still purring which he was a bit embarrassed by. “Oh! And before ya go…” He pulled down his mask, kissing Marx’s forehead sweetly. “See you at 5!~” Marx was, by now, an absolute flustered mess, he just looked up confidently and nodded in agreement. “See ya!”

LATER/TIMESKIP

Magolor was freshening up, getting ready for their little date. Even if it was just meant to be a casual day of causing some mischief, he still wanted to look his best. His hood was pulled down as he brushed his short brown fur. The Lor’s console soon alerted him of Marx’s presence as he stood outside the ship on his performance ball. ‘Well, at least he didn’t barge in this time.’ Magolor thought to himself as he floated over to let Marx inside. “You ready?” Magolor asked, grinning excitedly as Marx hopped from side to side on the performance ball. “You betcha!!” Marx replied enthusiastically, giggling. Magolor looked down at the ball he was balancing on, chuckling affectionately.

“Is the beach ball really necessary?” Marx laughed, balancing on one foot just to show off.

“It’s a performance ball! Besides, I needed a way to feel taller than you, didn’t i?”

“I suppose so..” Magolor held a mitten to his masked face, smiling with his eyes.

“Anyways, what's the plan?”

Magolor asked eagerly as Marx stood on his tippy toes, extending his shiny wings to gesture to himself proudly. “You’ll see, just follow my lead!”

Marx began to march away, still showing off on the performance ball. Magolor, still smiling, hovered obediently behind him. They walked for a little bit into town, where Magolor was surprised to get a few friendly waves from the local Waddle Dees. Eventually, Marx came to a stop near somewhere unexpected… In a little town square type area sat Magolor’s shoppe setup. Magolor looked at Marx curiously.

“My work place? How romantic..” Magolor mused, teasing. Marx rolled his eyes, smiling smugly. “Oh c’mon, you got all sortsa material in here! Hehe.. I wonder what these do?” Marx excitedly picked up some kind of potion vial that the mage was selling. Magolor looked unsure. “I dunno Marx, that's from the back of the shoppe and off sale. I don’t even remember what it does.” Marx’s eyes lit up mischievously. “Then it’ll be a surprise! Why don’t we give it to someone on the house, hm? A free sample!!” Marx gripped the glass bottle with his claws, hopping off the performance balls to search for a victim. Magolor was curious, trying not to worry as he followed after Marx. Just then, a fluffy teal passerby walked up to the shoppe curiously. Magolor had never seen him around before, but he hovered off the ground just as he did, and seemed pretty young. Marx adjusted his bow tie, putting on his “innocent face” he did whenever he wanted something. “Watch and learn from a pro, Mags!!” He whisper-shouted at Magolor, before stepping up to the unfamiliar face. 

“Hey, hey, hey!!” He yelled to get his attention, the kid’s oversized ears perked up as if he were startled. “Eep!! eh.. Oh, hi!! I like your hat, mister!” The critter smiled, eagerly introducing himself to Marx.

“I’m Elfilin! I’m new here..” Marx was trying not to burst out laughing, still holding the potion. He brushed Elfilin’s conversation attempts off a little. “Right, well! My –” Marx hesitated, almost announcing that Magolor was in fact his boyfriend. He blushed at the thought and decided to just refer to him as a friend.. “My friend owns a shoppe here and we were wondering if you wanted to try one of our products! Consider it a.. Free sample!” Marx smiled innocently, offering Elfilin the bottle.

“What is it?” Elfiilin asked, tilting his head like a puppy as he stared curiously at the mysterious liquid. “Well, why don’t you find out? We need people to test our products, you’d be helping out a lot!” Marx explained, trying to hide the fact that he had no idea what the drink did. Elfilin sheepishly smiled. “Well, I do like to help others whenever I can… I guess I could try a sip!” Magolor was watching from afar, giggling to himself. He forgot how good Marx was with tricking people, this really felt like they had just met again, even if he felt a little bad messing with the kid still. Marx grinned, reaching up with his clawed wing-hand as he handed Elfilin the bottle. “Thanks so much!”

Elfilin opened the bottle and took a swig. Marx had just noticed that he had no mouth, similar to a waddle dee, so watching him drink was mildly amusing. After taking his sip, he looked down curiously. “I don’t feel any diff–!!” Elfilin spoke, but soon noticed the potion had an effect on his voice. It was unnaturally deep, very deep in fact. He sounded like a 40 year old man going through a midlife crisis. Magolor had known that potion did something, but it was just now that he remembered it was a failed experiment he kept for some reason He couldn’t help but burst out laughing as soon as he heard Elfilin’s squeaky voice turn into something so uncanny, hovering over as him and Marx cackled together. To their surprise, Elfilin started laughing along with them, being a good sport! “Hehe! Ok, I admit, it's a little funny.. It wears off though, right?” Magolor nodded, wiping away some tears from laughing so hard. “Yeah, it should wear off soon. All my potions do. Hee hee.. I haven’t laughed like that in a while!” Marx grinned, happy to have gotten his partner’s laugh back. He hugged Magolor with his wings, still giggling in excitement. “I’m glad to hear you giggling again, Mags–!!” Before Marx could say whatever surprisingly sappy thing he wanted to say, Magolor had already pulled his mask down and pulled him into a quick kiss. Once he pulled away with his mask still down, Marx could see a visible smile. “Alright! Who are we pranking next?” Marx looked at him with a determined expression. “I thought you’d never ask!!!” And so, with Elfilin on his way, the two mischief-making lovers spent the day laughing with each other, playing pranks, and getting into ultimately harmless fun. By the time the sun was setting, they were sitting at a local cafe together to grab some food before they headed back. Marx was happy to let Magolor see he could still get out there and have some fun, and Magolor was happy to be feeling like himself again. But most importantly, the two were happy to have each other.

He still have some ability to grant wishes, but he needs a colossal amount of magic and is not 100% safe for him to control all that power. Magolor might help to find out the best way to activate that capacity without hurting both of them, but they really are unsure what to do. Also, maybe Magolor's wish remains but in a different way?
