Kodi

Kodi, or XBMC, is flexible open-source software for streaming media players. It has dozens of add-ons for playing video from lots of places on the Internet, right on your TV. At the fair today, I saw a couple shady vendors selling little Android boxes with Kodi for hundreds of dollars. If you really want to save money, just buy a cheap Amazon Fire TV stick and do it yourself. It’s not that hard.

Finally, XKCD makes an indirect apperance on the House of Hitstun. Randall Munroe also answers lots of hypothetical "What If?" questions online and offline. I've linked to this video in the "Source" section below.

Famous retro console modder Benjamin Heckendorn got his hands on the priceless Sony SNES-CD prototype. After examining its components, Ben Heck makes some repairs to get it running better than we’ve ever seen it before.

Lovely Planet

Quicktequila’s Lovely Planet is the anti-modern FPS. Instead of being multiplayer, gritty, and easy, Lovely Planet is single player, cutesy, and incredibly difficult. Calum Bowen’s happy, catchy soundtrack only really fits the first couple worlds. After that, the game introduces cruel new mechanics that demand precision trick shots on the run. I couldn’t beat a single stage in world 5 except the ending. If your keyboard-and-mouse skills are awesome, give this game a shot. It’s different.

Fumio Ito – Rush a Difficulty 2006 Arrange Ver.

30-Day Video Game Music Challenge (Super Hard Mode) Day 20: Music from a racing game From OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast (Xbox, 2006)

OutRun 2 with Turbo OutRun music is a lot more fun than actually playing Turbo OutRun.

Minigolf Exam

Minigolf Exam

Finally, I get to post a game I made! Minigolf Exam is an 8-hole miniature golf game where you only get one round to prove your skills! If you do badly on your first run, you are a minigolf failure forever. I made this game in 48 hours as my Ludum Dare #28 compo submission, and I wrote a few status updates about it here.

Play Minigolf Exam now!

Tenacious D – Time Warp

Hi, y’all; I’m back! Between rounds of THPS 1+2, Tenacious D rallied the troops and recorded a cover of a classic Rocky Horror Picture Show song to get people to vote. I’ve already voted, and if you’re in the US, the whole world really needs you to vote, too. Don’t let anything stop you. This country needs a jump to the left and not a step to the right.

UberNES - Nintendo Screen Saver

If you still use screen savers, Columbus-based developer M \ K Productions has a good one for you. Nintendo Saver 2015 fills your monitors with several NES games. Each one is actually a fully-functioning NES emulator playing a replay that was recorded in UberNES, and if you like, you can pick up a gamepad and take over control of one of the games on the spot. The recorded replays include my Super Mario Bros 3 playaround and a couple shorter videos showing glitches in Super Mario Bros 1 and Mega Man 2. If you like it, maybe I’ll record some more.

Mega Man 1 - Glitchfest

Scykoh‘s Glitchfest series is all about breaking popular games in as many ways as possible. TASVideos’s resources for NES Mega Man games covers several methods for moving through the game quickly, but even that doesn’t explain what Scykoh does in Ice Man’s stage. When I planned the “bugs” in Skeleton Hunter, the first place I looked for inspiration was Mega Man 1’s zipping, pause tricks, and tileset corruption, and they’re shown off very well here.

Yoshino Aoki – Battle Field

30-Day Video Game Music Challenge (Super Hard Mode) Day 10: RPG battle music From Mega Man Battle Network 6 (GBA, 2005)

I’m actually playing Battle Network 1 right now. I passed up Battle Network when it was new because it wasn’t the new Mega Man platformer I wanted. Today, its unique battle system really stands out.

Susumu Hirasawa – Sign

Susumu Hirasawa is a master of massive thundering sound. He wrote this pounding opening theme for the Berserk game on PS2. I have no idea what’s going on in Berserk but this makes me want to watch some Satoshi Kon movies.
