GameHut is a YouTube channel run by Jon Burton, founder of Traveller’s Tales and producer of Lego games and movies. His series on Coding Secrets dives deep into the Sega Genesis versions of Sonic 3D Blast and Toy Story to explain how he achieved those great graphics. He really used all the resources to do things the hardware was never meant to do.

In 2003, I had just started making levels for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 when the legendary AndyTHPS unleashed this Shipyard line on the Internet. This changed my life. It didn’t only motivate me to buy a capture device and start recording my own videos. This video also introduced me to Dillinger Escape Plan and started my descent into math-metal insanity. I was hooked for years.

I played Ultra Street Fighter IV last night hitting with lots of Final Turn Punches and I remembered this classic from August 2004. Jchensor, Maj, MrWizard, and zEvil compiled 20+ minutes of footage that ranges from the earliest fighting game combos to Playstation 2 games and their highly impractical setups. Jchensor also posted his commentary for every scene.

Getting into MUGEN territory here. You know, in case Marvel wasn't broken enough for you.

A commission from someone on DA to draw more Meowvel vs Catcom. XD
30-Day Video Game Music Challenge (Super Hard Mode) Day 23: Underrated music From Knuckles’ Chaotix (32X, 1995)
Chaotix nicely uses the extra sound channels that went unused in most 32X games. I think I ought to give Chaotix a chance.

Super Mario 64 is fun to speedrun and fun to break. YouTube animator TerminalMontage captures this pretty accurately in this animated 0-star speedrun. I’m heading to GDEX to play some local indie games and break them, of course. EDIT: GDEX got too serious and too expensive, so I actually didn't go.

30-Day Video Game Music Challenge (Super Hard Mode) Day 24: Music you constantly have stuck in your head From Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game (PS3, August 10, 2010)
Happy 10th anniversary! We want to buy this precious little beat-’em-up, but it’s been delisted since 2014. This Anamanaguchi soundtrack is all we have left of it.
Update: Scott Pilgrim collected a 1up and is getting another digital release in 2020. I hope we get a physical release too. I don't want to lose this again.

Oh, hi blog! Katsu Somehira draws the illustrations for the seinen manga magazine Harta. This one rocketed to the top of /r/FloatingIsFun, besting another Katsu Somehira art and another garden in space. I'd totally move to a space station permanently, free from gravity forever. Of course, I'd like to bring my family and raise them in space as Newtypes.

Imperial Boy's detailed, colorful background art makes for some great desktop wallpapers. He's always got this sense of vertical scale that I've always tried to work into my level designs.
(Starting with this post, every image on my old WordPress blog had unique mouseover text. Tumblr does not support mouseover text for the featured image in an image post, so I’ll have to copy those over as plain text captions as demonstrated below. Mouseover text doesn’t work well on mobile, anyway. As far as I know, the mouseover text on images is the only feature I lose in the transition to Tumblr. I could theoretically fix this in the theme, but it wouldn’t affect Tumblr’s dashboard or the mobile app since those ignore themes.)
Hmm, I think I'll add alt text to images. It's a nice little easter egg in XKCD and Dr. McNinja, and hopefully Feedly supports Wordpress's method of doing this too. I just have to remember to change the tag from alt= to title= each time.

I like a good half-baked design every now and then, and this modular cell phone caught my eye. Each of my past few cell phones have met their end from just one component failing. With a Phonebloks phone, you could simply replace the bad component and be good as new. Motorola’s on board with this now, and I hope the project continues to gain traction. How about blocks for buttons and a D-pad?
