Magolor had been living with Meta Knight for two weeks now.

He kept track of the days by the tea mugs stacking up on the little windowsill, and the fact that Meta Knight started leaving out exactly one extra slice of toast in the mornings without saying a word.

"You like having me here." Magolor teased one morning, poking at the toast with a grin. "Don't try to deny it."

Meta Knight didn't look up from his book. "I simply hate wasting food."

"And I just happen to show up every day when there's toast ready?"

"You still talk too much."

"You missed it."

That got a barely perceptible flick of an eye in his direction. Magolor grinned to himself.

Truthfully, things had been... oddly peaceful. He'd expected yelling. Cold shoulders.

Maybe a sword pointed at his neck, but Meta Knight (gruff and distant as ever) hadn't tried to throw him out. He hadn't brought up the betrayal again. He just... let Magolor be.

And more than that, he helped.

Like the night Magolor had a nightmare and woke up yelling spells he no longer had the magic to cast. Meta Knight had appeared in the doorway without a word, sat beside him, and stayed there until morning.

Or the time Magolor accidentally knocked over a whole shelf of books and started panicking, only for Meta Knight to silently start picking them up with him.

It was weird, and then nice, and then weird again.

But the weirdest part?

Meta Knight smiled more now. Not big, obvious grins like Kirby or Dedede. But soft, small things... Like the corners of his eyes crinkling, or the faintest tilt of his mask when Magolor said something ridiculous.

He'd started talking more too. Not a lot, but sometimes over late-night tea he'd tell Magolor stories. Quietly. Thoughtfully. Like he was letting the words out only because he knew Magolor would hold them gently.

One rainy evening, Magolor was curled up on the couch in that same black shirt with the "M" on it—he still wore it constantly, claiming it was "super comfy," though Meta Knight suspected the real reason was because it smelled like him.

Meta Knight sat across from him, reading.

"You ever get tired of all this quiet?" Magolor asked suddenly, breaking the silence. "You used to live on a battleship...the Halberd, right? With swords, yelling and the dramatic lightning?"

Meta Knight turned a page. "Peace is preferable."

"Even with me here?"

There was a pause. Meta Knight looked up, meeting his gaze.

"Especially with you here."

Magolor blinked. His ears twitched.

"O-Oh..."

He pulled the shirt collar up to hide the way his face heated.

Meta Knight stood and walked over. He knelt in front of the couch and gently brushed a crumb from Magolor's cloak, completely ignoring the wide-eyed look he was getting.

"You've... changed..." he said quietly. "You still talk too much, and you're still a mess."

"I'm adorable and endearing." Magolor corrected automatically.

Meta Knight didn't argue.

Instead, he reached up and tugged the hoodie part of Magolor's cloak over his head gently. Like he used to when Magolor fell asleep on long missions. He let his hand linger for a second.

"...But I like this version of you..." he said. "Even if you're a little chaotic."

Magolor's heart did a flip.

"...You do like having me here...do you?" he whispered.

Meta Knight looked at him, golden eyes steady behind the mask.

"I never said I didn't."

Magolor leaned forward and bumped his forehead softly against Meta Knight's.

He didn't need magic to feel warm anymore.💕
