roommates au sleepover episode
🎉
I went down a youtube rabbit hole and ended up watching tours of love hotels in Japan and now I'm going insane at the unmet potential of love hotels in bsd fancontent and I don't even mean in a sexy way (different topic for a different time)
There is a subcategory of hotels in Japan built for last-minute check-in and designed around privacy and (pseudo) anonymity with soundproof walls and little to no interaction with other guests or staff and we have a bunch of characters who should avoid being recognized or would need to hide for a short time for various reasons.
These hotels are also often equipped with all necessities for an overnight stay without having to bring anything. Toileteries are all included and they'll even lend you PJs. You can order food and not have to encounter the staff at all when they deliver it to your door. Most of them have inflatable bath mats for the (traditional Japanese) bathroom floor. The sexy stuff is more or less apparent depending on which hotel you're in (that can be funny). You can stay overnight but you can also stay for a few hours in the middle of the day. There's always a karaoke machine.
The potential! The scenarios! Do you not see it? Get your mind out of the gutter I said that was a topic for another time. Do you see the ways these could be used! Do you see how convenient these could be!! They can hide! They can tend to their wounds! They can be stupid! They can spend the night there when they weren't expecting to have to! Only 29 fics in the BSD tag have the "love hotels" tag too! We can form a revolution! Don't drag me away I'm not done!!
Spreading my love hotel in fanfic agenda
pros of having your characters pick a Japanese love hotel to spend the night:
-Intended for last-minute bookings, there's probably a room available
-Check-in for overnight stays are very late at night
-Designed for privacy, very likely there is no staff you need to talk to at any point (there is at least a monitoring camera in the lobby for security though)
-The in and out paths are usually different
-Self-check-in in most places, otherwise the receptionist's face is hidden
-Often includes free snacks upon check-in
-Soundproof walls
-Completely covered windows in opaque materials
-Free extremely wide range of amenities, including but not limited to toothbrush, mouthwash, hairtie, hairclip, hairbrush, razor, shaving cream, washcloth, net, soap, shampoo, conditoner, lotion, nail clippers and cotton swabs
-Free rental of even more stuff, including but not limited to: pajamas, loungewear, costumes, more beauty products and inflatable matresses
-In-room mini vending machine for drinks (and sometimes Adult Items)
-No-contact room service for all meals
-Traditional Japanese bathroom (high chances of including a plastic bed mat of some kind for the floor)
-There's only one bed (and a couch)
-Smoking rooms available (if you need one)
-Karaoke machine, TV on demand, wi-fi, charger cables, air conditioning, etc.
-Self-check-out or faceless receptionist again
-Overall cheap and affordable
Cons to having your characters pick a Japanese love hotel to spend the night:
-Commonly kitsch, gaudy room design (two rooms rarely share the same design), sometimes there's Themeing (awkward)
-Sometimes the room design is impractical, such as Windows or Mirrors in unconvenional places, metal poles in the middle of the room, etc. (awkward)
-Adult Itemsâ„¢ on the night stand, for free! (awkward)
-Intended for short stays (a few hours to a day)
-Not fully anonymous despite the looks of it
-Some hotels don't let you leave the room unless you've paid with the in-room self-check-out machine (the door is locked and you need to call the staff to be let out without checking out)
-18+ only
