Hera (Ἥρα) was queen of the Olympic deities and the goddess of marriage, women, the sky and the stars of heaven in Greek mythology. She was bold, clever, and powerful, yet it was for her less flattering characteristics that she was best known. Above all else, Hera was a jealous and vengeful goddess who struggled with her husband Zeus and his many infidelities and raged (often fruitlessly) against his many lovers both mortal and divine. In the end, her constant anger and consistent inability to exact the revenge she sought spoke powerfully to the place and perception of women in ancient Greece. My agent gets furious when I say this, but, with work, I’ve always stepped over. I was a chorus girl, then I was an individual dancer, then I stepped over from being a dancer into sitcom. I hadn’t had any acting training, so I was very aware of that, and now I just think, ‘Oh, I hope I can be good enough.‘
