hetch was once again piloting ranboo but ALSO

he isn’t doing this for an emotional reaction out of ranboo, or anyone specifically. he’s doing this for an emotional reaction out of US. if showfall wanted an emotional reaction out of ranboo, hetch would have let ranboo grieve. would have let them look around more and see what happened to their friends.

i think because of genloss 3 ending That way, we really skipped over the part where all the showfall workers "switch off", and ranboo walks towards the exit as we see sunlight and hear birds chirp. the gentle uplifting music as he turns around to look at us once more and bows. i feel like we should talk about that more

Soldier, poet, king. The taken, the villain, the hero.

I was listening to soldier poet king by the oh hellos just now and realized how it fit gen loss surprisingly well, down to the religious imagery.

Soldier = the taken

Sneeg was the first to “fight back” in the sense of he broke through showfalls filter first and tried his damndest to escape. His character overall is blunt, judgy, and shielded. He fought until the very end, when he was taken down by a security monster trying to break free again. Everytime sneeg “dies”, he doesn’t go down without a fight.

Poet = the villain

Charlie’s character plays the widest variety of roles. It’s still the same guy, the same “actor”, but he’s thrown between being the demon, the patient, and a streamer. Sneer’s character is almost the same between day one and two, but Charlie is drastically different.

King = the hero

Cmon. “There will come a ruler, who’s crown is laid in thorn”. That lyric almost definitely references jesus and ranboo is essentially crucified. The entire show rested on his shoulders, he was the hero. They were the center of everything even though they never wanted to be and it ended up being his downfall, his death.

It just all makes sense in my head ya know? Anyways, soldier poet king makes every piece of media sadder thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

i’m struggling to put it into words but something about the hole in the mask at the end really sticks with me. it’s gotta be an artistic and meaningful choice. i was stuck for a while but i couldn’t figure out why but i think i’ve got it.

ranboo knows that a considerable amount of people want a face reveal, that some even go as far as to try and find personal information/photos of them without a mask.

he was smart with this, the position of the hole doesn’t show us much, the blood obscures their face a lot, and the lights from the mask creates contrast that puts their face in shadow. but we know they’re purposefully showing us this, you can see the movement of his jaw as they talk.

they’ve managed to perfectly walk the line of showing us something without actually giving us anything.

it feels like he’s going “here, since you want this so bad, fucking take it.” it’s spiteful, it’s mockery, it’s taking some control where others keep trying to push their boundaries.

especially given the themes in generation loss about being forced to appeal to an audience and being controlled by the audience. it’s so powerful, fucking hell.

i voted live bc i was panicking and wanted to have another chance (however slim) to get them out of there somehow, but looking back it definitely was the right decision

it was a mercy they deserved. we saved him, though through death it may be.

i feel like the important part is maybe that we tried? i like to think that us choosing the die option was a bit more comforting for gl!ranboo than the live option, so like even if it ends up being the same, we chose the ironically less emotionally painful way to go about it.

Controversial take but I've been thinking about Generation Loss and I don't think the live or die vote options really truly mattered in the end. We already know Showfall reanimates their puppets and to me the truest tragedy is that we gave him what he wanted by killing him so he wouldn't have to play the game over ans over, but... there's no reason to believe he can't be brought back to do it all again regardless.

The desperate call for it to end could have been just as futile as choosing the "live" option but at least for a moment he got what he asked for and got to make his own choice. Tragedy of the Hero.

ranboo said that in the final stream he couldn't run at his full speed bc the cameraman couldn't keep up or something, and while yes, this is completely just a behind the scenes fun fact, i also would like to propose the headcanon that showfall controlled his running speed in the chase scenes so he never actually could outrun the security guards/the wire monster, only as long as they wanted him to
