fun behaviors to give dragons that aren't feline/canine based

cause as much as i love dragons purring and roaring i wish there was just more variety in how they would act

clacking their teeth together to show contentedness/happiness (budgies)

using tails as a defensive weapon in a whip like fashion (iguana)

twitching to express that they're not a threat to members of their species (hognose snake)

feeling calm when eyes are hooded/covered (birds of prey)

head bobbing as a threat display (anoles/bearded dragons)

flattening neck or sides to appear bigger (snakes/lizards)

mantling over food to protect it from hatchmates (birds of prey)

wiggling neck as a courting maneuver (budgies)

audibly grinding teeth as a warning (macaques)

maintained eye contact as a challenge (gorillas)

pounding wings against sides as a threat (gorillas)

slapping other dragons with their claws when their personal bubble is invaded (seals)

hoards used as a site to impress mates (birds of paradise)

snorting when undergoing heightened stress (horses)

making repeated loud noises with surroundings to establish territory (woodpeckers)

loud constant arguments with other dragons when roosting (bats)

building lairs that cause a domino effect of change in the land around them (beavers)

slapping their tails against the ground/water as a warning (beavers)

wiggling tail tip to attract prey (various animals)

and im not saying canine and feline behaviors are wrong or bad to give a dragon (people wouldn't write dragons with those behaviors if they weren't fun in the first place!) but i feel for creatures that are mythological giant winged lizards that you can do more and get experimental with it. often the more unfamiliar behavior the more dragony the dragon feels

In what felt like a lifetime, it landed on the hard, lush ground. The impact took the 'breath' out of its mechanical body, it letting out a pathetic wheeze in response to the pain that flared in its receptors.

To be fair, it wasn't like it wanted its body to be forcibly hijacked by a bunch of DNA, it just sorta happened.

It's optics flickered on, taking in the sights around it. For once, it felt like it was actually going to die. Not some pathetic period of dormancy, the real thing.

Every part of its body stung with an unrealistic amount of pain, and it's code worked diligently to lower the intensity.

It felt like it's mere essence was being destroyed. Was this what it was like to have a virus enter the body and destroy the cells inside? For once, it felt an odd thrum of fear string through its body.

Its optics flickered in and out involuntarily and it realized with a jolt that its limbs were feeling heavier, like some sort of paralysis was taking over. It made itself move regardless, attempting to find some sort of remedy. It barely made it a few places before stopping because of the pain.

Was it truly going to die?

It won't die.

With Shapes of May going on but me being unable to participate, I wanted to share some ref sheets!! This isn't everything I have, but there's some things I'd like to keep from the immediate public eye until I get the comic started... :) So these are all the main character refs I have ready at this point! Trysia (P2/triangle) and Emerald (P3/pentagon) are in redesign hell rn so all we have is Cyan and Oracle. Also a couple extras that I include because they're some of my favorite characters and designs in the AU lol (vive my belovedd)
