30 August Victory Day!
Hello Turkish learners and people who are interested in Turkish culture! So knowing about today will give you an idea about us since it’s one of the most important days in our culture. So here we go!
Victory Day in Turkey commemorates the key Turkish victory against Greek forces in the Battle of Dumlupınar which was the decisive battle in the Turkish War of Independence in 1922.
It also honours the founder of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
If you’re walking in the streets of Turkey in 30 August (and other national holidays) you’ll probably see lots of Turkish flags and images of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk all around (houses, shops etc.) and it’s possible to see crowds walking around singing with flags on their hands.
The Victory Day is called “Zafer Bayramı” in Turkish.
