"That'd be nice!" Jihye laughs, making her way into the room. "Does your mother cook lots? I feel like I wouldn't be able to stick to any diet plans if my mom liked cooking." It's been a long time since she'd had homecooked food, not being a fan of the culinary arts herself. An egg cracked into 2am cup ramyeon was the extent of her skills.
"I'm not sure, but I can check after the rehearsal and bring any extras to you." The waiting period would take forever, anyway. "Speaking of the rehearsal, the writers said that you've got the edited scripts for us to go over?" A gentle redirection to business, which is why she's here in the first place. Jihye doesn't believe in burning bridges, but she doesn't see a point in setting up camp there and making a home out of them either. In their line of work, friendly acquaintanceships make up the bulk of her interactions with others, a line cleanly drawn between her professional and personal life.
belated, sung recognized the voice behind the door, putting an extra speed to his step to beat his manager to opening it. as he swung it open, his hair - freshly fixed, his stylist will scold him for that one - finished settling down from his speedwalk to the door. sung made eye contact and smiled, "jihye," before getting distracted by his peripheral vision.
"oh, i love pastries. you know, my mom, um, well, her specialty is more full dishes, but sometimes she'll go for pastries and they're insane. if we do this again, i'll definitely have to bring some of her pastries so you can try them." perhaps his energy hyping playlist had done too good of a job. sung looked down at the floor before recognizing how awkward he was being. "oh, and yes, come in. make yourself comfortable." sung stepped back, opening the door more than the width of his shoulders, and gestured to the couple of staff members waiting around with him. "did they have any others leftover? i might grab one to take home."
There's a tension in the silence that settles, heavy like a blanket over the room. Jihye knows she should do something as the leader, but frankly, she isn't completely convinced she'll be able to say anything suitable for broadcast to Jimin in this moment. Jimin, who's flitting about the room with a water bottle and excuses as to why she's unable to do what's expected of her, aegyo cloying.
"Yep." She chimes, keeps it as light as she can; nevermind her expressions for the past 30 minutes have looked like someone's shit in her salad. Jimin apologises to her with a pout and a blubbered explanation as she squeezes by. Mindful of the cameras still recording, Jihye smiles sagely and pats her on the back, telling her to rest and go over her parts.
Once inside the booth, Jihye straightens her lyric paper out. It's been through the wringer, having been scribbled on with her notes over the past week of preparing for it and acting as her stress ball, crumpled in her fist during Jimin's arduously long recording. She makes eye contact with the camera, and smiles awkwardly as she fits the headphones over her head.
"Ahhhhh... Okay, I'm ready." A quick warm-up, and she shows a double thumbs up to show she's ready to go. She doesn't plan on spending half as long in the booth as Jimin had, even though her parts were twice that of hers. "Do you want me to start from anywhere in particular?"
he gets it. it's an idol survival show. talent isn't really a prerequisite or even a consideration unless the superior qualities of looks and an endearing personality are missing. but there are still supposed to be limits to a human's ability to be simultaneously off-beat and unable to read the lyrics she's got right in front of her.
he's been patient, he swears. he's gone over the rhythm and delivery of each line over and over again, insisting she repeat it back to him before they even waste the time of actually recording it. it's clear she's just not cut out for the already simple job she's been given.
"okay," jaw clenched, he tries not to sound nearly as exasperated with all of the time that's been wasted as he is. "jimin — let's take a break. get some water or a snack and look over the verse some more and we'll come back to you."
his chair is on the verge of tipping over with the force with which he leans back into it as he all but gives up. the cameras still shooting only serve to sour his mood further, and he's well past the point of wondering why he'd taken this job offer in the first place. he's got deep blue now; maybe he should have just focused on that for the time being.
papers are flipped and rearranged as he draws circles and strikes through text, and then buttons are pushed and mouses clicked as his unhappy silence settles over the room. it's broken only when he looks over the shoulder of his chair, meeting eyes with the girl who'd seemed to be struggling with sitting through jimin's attempts just as much as he had been. "huh jihye, can you get in the booth?" it's not really a question with how thin his patience has been worn, but he tries to keep it friendly. it's not her fault half of the people on this godforsaken show need to be pursuing a different career.
Maybe she's less mysterious than she thinks. Jihye's jaw drops as the second message comes through, feeling strange at how accurate the read was. She spins around to check that the wall behind them's still up, keeping her identity anonymous, and her partner isn't peeking.
[TO: lucky charm] how... did you know....!
[TO: lucky charm] do Es know Is the moment they see them..?!
[TO: lucky charm] mbti at first sight
She's so immersed in the conversation, it takes their desperate waving for Jihye to notice the PDs holding up their sketchbook with the next prompt on it. "Oh, I actually..." She grins. "On the way here I made a playlist of the songs I've been listening to recently." Half of which belong to her. Is it chart fraud if she streams her own songs?
Deciding to look at her partner's playlist before she shows her own, she studies the songs on there carefully and hazards a guess. "I don't know why, but I feel like... it's a girl."
[TO: lucky charm] do you listen to music a lot?
yebin has to stop herself from screaming when her phone lights up with the notification of a text. when she was first told of this shoot, she didn't think much of it, but it was a lot more fun than she expected.
[to: spring breeze] i am an E! [to: spring breeze] what about you? my hunch tells me you're an I because most E's i know don't jump to mbti for a conversation starterㅋㅋㅋ
she didn't even know who was on the other side of the wall, but yebin was already having so much fun. when the producer in front of her asks her if her text is true, she nods. "it's what i've noticed! like i don't think i would have asked this person's mbti right off the bat," she confesses with another chuckle.
the producer puts up her sketchbook with the message show each other your playlists, and so she quickly goes into youtube music and screenshots the last few songs she's listened to. "okay, thankfully, i haven't listened to my own music."
there's a track from her former groupmate as well as other idols. it's a mix and match of a lot of songs, but anybody could tell that she mostly listens to fun, energetic music and kpop.
On hour 30 of severe sleep deprivation, Jihye starts questioning her purpose in life.
Eyes fixed on the mirror, she considers the possible paths she could've taken besides this one. Wonders if she'd be any less tired had she gone back to the US and became a normal college student, instead of so stubbornly pursuing her idol dreams. Starts debating if it'd be too late to break her contract.
Then her manager opens the door, announcing that coffee's here, and maybe Jihye can put those irrepressible thoughts aside for however long it takes to down her beverage. There's an extra cup and pastry for her co-MC for the day, and those in hand, she slips out of the room and goes to greet them. Their waiting room's a couple doors down from hers, and she knocks on the door, calling out a "Sunbae?"
FIGHTING. with ♡, for @sungpeach's sung.
"Oh, they texted first!" This is not a line said during a girls' night sleepover.
This is in the middle of a brightly-lit set with Jihye perched on an armchair, a corner and a texting app separating her from her conversation partner. She's got no idea what the crew are saying, thanks to the Airpods nestled in her ears and unfortunate lack of lip-reading talent. She hesitates before responding, typing and then backspacing.
"What should I say..." She trails, before a newfound sense of resolve steels her. "I don't know... whatever! First I'll reply."
[TO: lucky charm] hiya~ [TO: lucky charm] i'm spring breeze!
She pauses, before sending another message.
[TO: lucky charm] are you perhaps... an E?
"do i just introduce myself?"
once yebin gets the okay from the producer sitting in front of her, she double checks the earbuds plugged into her ear before chuckling and looking down at her phone screen.
[to: ??] hi, i'm lucky charm [to: ??] i'm lucky charm because i'm pretty lucky. i'll make sure you get some of that energy today as well!!!!
"is this right?" she asks once more before laughing at her own antics. it had taken forever for her to come up with a nickname, and the one she did come up with was pretty random. did she have luck? on good days, yeah, but she wasn't that lucky of a person to claim it as a nickname. she would've chosen something to promote her upcoming album, but that would become too much of a mouthful, and she didn't want to hurt her thumbs anymore.
it's not like this video had much meaning in the first place, so she'd wait for the other to respond.
@idlingworship, filming this video
There are 24 hours in a day-- simply not enough for Jihye. She's got so very many things to do, so very many hats to wear and so very many responsibilities to fulfil. Expectations are synonymous with her name, whether it be in her role as a leader, FUTURE/FEMME's producer, their main vocalist, and even just as Huh Jihye.
So, of course, she simply has to have an outlet.
Alcohol's good and all, but drinking alone in their dorm's more depressing than it is relaxing, and it's not like she can go clubbing.
So instead, she opts for this: their dance studio at ass o'clock, her phone's playlist on shuffle connected to the speakers, and full immersion into whatever song she's belting at the top of her lungs. She's got a bad habit of getting too immersed, though, and it's why she doesn't notice the door opening and the person in the doorway, until she's halfway through the chorus and they're making solid eye contact in the mirror. She freezes up, dance moves coming to a halt, but continuining her singing about still cruising and being unable and unwilling to stop grooving.
I STAY OUT TOO LATE. with ♡, for @db-hy's hyojin.
Jihye'll be honest: she's a serial 'we've got to meet up soon!'er. God only knows how many unanswered messages on Kakao she has, inbox full of unread plans asking when she's free so they can finally meet up. She doesn't feel much, if any, guilt. Chances are, they're just like her and asking for the sake of asking.
It's not like that with Eunchae, though.
Their friendship thus far's been more support coffee trucks, Kakaotalk messages and Music Bank interviews than real face-to-face time, but they'd finally found a serendipitous spot of overlapping free time to finally meet up. There'd been this perfume-making workshop Jihye'd seen on SNS, and with a minimum 2 pax for a solo class; she'd decided to extend an invite to Eunchae.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry! We ended way later than I thought we would, but luckily traffic wasn't too bad on the way over. Did you wait for long?" Her apologies are profuse and endless, as she makes an impressive hop out of a still-moving taxi.
WE CAN GO WHEREVER YOU LIKE. with ♡, for @sunshinechae's eunchae.
Day blends into night when Jihye's in the studio, with hours passing by in the blink of an eye. She drags herself home when she's physically unable to keep her eyes open, waking up for school and practice hours later, absolutely nothing outside of it in her life.
It's the kind of life she's happy living, though. A pep in her step uncharacteristic of someone as seriously sleep-deprived as her, but that might just be the concerning amount of caffeine she's consuming on the daily.
So of course, she's there before him. Nothing else to live for.
Dance practice lets out early, and she's been in his studio for the past 40 minutes working on the song they'd been slaving over during the night before. Legs crossed on the office chair, blanket over her shoulders, she's quickly gotten comfortable in the space over the past month.
She doesn't even turn to greet him when she hears the door open, just throwing a hand up in greeting. Same hand drops to slide the coffee cup closer to herself, and she raises her eyebrows in surprise when she hears their to-do list for the day. "I'm recording the demo?" Serendipitous, since she'd been working on the toplining.
"I'll send you my bank account details after this, then." Jihye simpers, taking a sip of the coffee in an exaggeratedly cute manner. She's not being serious, of course, considering how much food he's bought them over the course of album prep. Definitely more than enough to cover whatever the demo fee was.
❝ even if everything falls apart don’t lose yourself ‘cause i’ll be there to save you i’ll be there to save you @idlingworship sometime late november, 2018
jihoon feels like he is babysitting. like culture creative just signed him and somewhere between the lines of the contract babysitting was written and he just happened to miss it. at least that was the initial thought that would just come and go whenever he would walk into his studio and see jihye sat on the second chair. the company had promised him his own studio, well.. jihoon insisted his own studio if he was going to be working with them, and if he old lousy company could comply with that, so could culture fucking creative. however, it was still bland, still missed any touch of personality. unless you counted the takeaway boxes and empty coffee cups scattered around.
it does take a while for jihoon to actually open up and be a good senior, a mentor, a friend if you would like. he feels bad that jihye had to witness him this stressed and anxious, swear and yell a few times. it was a big move in his career. a break or make it comeback album. he thinks she understands, but he doesn’t understand why culture creative thought it would be a good idea for this to be a thing now, and not when he has his next comeback or project.
“we are recording a demo today.” jihoon says as he drops a few sheets of paper onto the desk, followed by two coffee’s “this one is with oat milk.” he clarifies by tapping onto the said coffee cup, before turning his attention to one of the desk drawers picking out some coloured pens. “actually, i lied.” he corrects himself “you are recording part of the demo for the feature.” he clarifies as he finally sits down on the chair next to jihye. they had been working on save u for a while now, it was very different from the whole album, but was a great song never the less. so what better way than teach jihye how it’s like to record a demo before sending it out to people who might actually feature the song.
Jihye's been told she has a vivid imagination.
Today it seems more overactive than anything.
She eyes the wide-eyed girl with hands on both cheeks in embarrassment as she profusely apologises to the entire studio for the nth time for making a mistake. Really, wasting everyone's time, but Jihye digresses.
They'd gone over it all of last night, and while she doesn't think Jimin would be on SMTM anytime soon, she'd thought the other girl had at least gotten the verse down. If it's a ploy to get more screentime, Jihye would get it. Respect it, even. It seems more genuine incompetence than anything, though, and Jihye wants to shove the other girl's head through the glass of the recording booth.
She's visited her happy place so many times during the survival show it's been struggling with overtourism, and right now, it's just not cutting it. Her lyric sheet's crumpled with the amount of times she's tightened her fist around it every time Jimin fucks up, and as she takes a glance around the studio, everyone seems similarly tired.
She sighs involuntarily, because she might scream if she doesn't. It's louder than she means it to be, though, and she locks eyes with their producer, who looks like he's in a similarly frustrated boat.

Hi, Reddit!
I'm Huh Jihye, a member of K-pop group FUTURE/FEMME under Culture Creative. We just made our comeback with 'Kitsch', and I'll be here to answer a few of your questions about what it's like to be a member of FUTURE/FEMME and about K-pop!
How do you keep your head high? Idols often have to deal with lots of criticism, and I can't imagine it's easy dealing with that day in and day out.
good question! i'm extremely lucky to have wonderful people around me, such as my group members, that act as my support system. i don't get hurt easily, so i like to see if it's constructive, then i'll take the criticism and work on myself. if not, then i don't care! if i'm secure in myself and believe i'm the best version of me, then it doesn't matter what others think of me. it only matters what i think of me! you're you, and i'm me!
jihye girl i love u!!! i'm such a big fan of f/f!!! can you share more about 'kitsch' and how you came up with the song? love u miss producer huh x
thank you! i feel like when i was creating it, i wanted it to be really representative of what future/femme's whole message & what we stand for, so a very carefree, youthful, 'i don't care' vibe! there are lots of references to social media platforms and what it's probably like to just be existing in the now as a gen-z. i wanted everyone who listened to be able to feel like they're a cheerful, confident main character in a high-teen movie with no worries! if you're walking down the street and listening to kitsch, you really have to become the main character!
What does a typical day for FUTURE/FEMME look like?
there really is no one typical day! even if we're preparing for a comeback, we all have different schedules and things to work on outside of it, and come together for practice after. for me, it's working in the studio 24/7!
what's your birth time queen
i'll never reveal this.
what's your favourite song you've ever written?
this is so hard to answer... but i have a special soft spot for love u twice! it's sooo personal to me, and so many of you guys have said you relate to it which makes it extra special!💖 i find it so wonderful when you make my songs yours :) it's why i also love good parts, because i want to encourage self-love!
what's your favourite taylor swift era?
off the top of my head, midnights!
what's a song you like to listen to to get your energy up?
antifragile!
top 3 must-haves in your bag? and a tmi!
probably... my phone! that's really a must-have! my headphones, and chocolate! for my tmi, i stayed up til 5am yesterday/today!
[sliding $20 note] any new music in the works...
;) forever n always
your favourite lyric you've ever written, and why?
omggg so many. probably: the bridge of impurities, 'power stronger in adversity, i'm not afraid of the overwhelming shadow, i'll have it all what i desire' good parts' 'i don't wanna blame my weakness, i'll love myself the way i am'! polaroid's entire verse 2. that's it that's the tweet
what's something you'd like to say to you 5 years ago, and you 5 years in the future?
keep going because you'll be glad you did! i hope the 26-year-old jihye will be happy, too.
thanks for all your questions & support, reddit! this has been so much fun, but unfortunately, this is all the time i have. please give lots of support to future/femme's latest comeback, 'kitsch'! 💖

432 words on jihye's thoughts about the antifragile album.
the hydra: starting off very strong, it's a challenge from the very first line. 'do you think i'm fragile?', jihye's credited as the sole producer & lyricist on the track. in line with the theme of the album, 'antifragile', she borrows the title from the greek myth of the lernaean hydra. for every head cut off, the hydra'll grow two more heads in its place. a very direct message to those trying to cut them down for the feminist message of 'tomboy', it's a bold declaration that future/femme are here to stay.
antifragile: their title track! for their first-ever comeback, jihye wanted to cement their voice and message and let everyone know f/f are the ones to watch. with partial production credits, it's a thrilling, upbeat earworm instrumental that sticks around in your head even if you just pass by a store playing it. the lyrics, which jihye co-wrote, are also unabashedly confident, with lines like 'i'll climb higher' showing her greed for success. even if they've been hurt in the past, it's only strengthened them.
impurities: and look, they're not perfect. they've never claimed to be- even if jihye'd like everyone in the world to think otherwise. she co-wrote this one, and for the bridge, possibly one of her favourite lyrics she's ever written, are the lines 'power stronger in adversity / i'm not afraid of the overwhelming shadow / i'll have it all, what i desire / just because it's what i am.' she's the most honest when she makes her art, and this is very much who huh jihye is.
no celestial: very, very special song to her! it's the first full song she's released that's ever been totally hers, in term of both production and lyrics. a little bit contradictory to her actual self/image, the song talks about being imperfect and embracing that, using celestial imagery. cutting off your wings, and falling down to earth with no fear, jihye personally thinks it's the song that describes f/f's the best. whenever asked what her favourite track is, it's this! no competition.
good parts: easy listening, with very straightforward lyrics. jihye's a cowriter, and one of the lines she wrote, 'everything's so blurry, but i hope it's polaroid' is a callback to one of their previous songs off i never die. self-love is easy to write about for her, because jihye loooooves herself, even the less-than-ideal parts. is it a good or bad thing if she's aware that she's not a good person all the time but chooses to keep those bad traits? who knows. she'll love herself regardless.
hiya everyone! happy opening- very excited to meet everyone + your muses. i'm jia (s/h, 21+) , and i'll be writing for huh jihye! as always, more under the read more, and if you still don't feel like running for the hills screaming after reading about her, please hit the lil heart & i'll come into your ims for plotting. discord is also available upon request!
background
healthy, wealthy, rich and she is that bitch....
born & raised in california, she's the huh family's youngest (read: oopsie baby) and left to her own devices most of the time as a result, with her parents and siblings all doing their own successful people tingz...
her older sister introduces her to kpop when she's 5, and she's HOOKED. she's at the age where she wants to be an astronaut one week and a teacher the next, so when she tells her entire family she's going to be an idol, they just indulgently nod and smile- and you know what... the next month she's talking about wanting to be an actress, so.
at 14, she gets a casting dm from everlast ent., and she absolutely loooooved mirrorworld's 4 walls, so off to seoul she went! got through all their auditions, but there's a v. good chance her family background influenced it... monkey covering emoji
nepotism only gets u so far tho... and after a year of training she's sick of it. ends up being much more interested in studio time than sitting through japanese lessons, and she leaves when given the option to. joins a survival show a couple months after, because she thinks that may be a little bit more up her alley.
spoiler, it's not! pulling all-nighters just to practice songs she hates and having to handhold bitches who can't even sing on-key... she's absolutely sick of it and it kinda shows! pann-girls have a field day with her supposed attitude. see: chopped up gifs of her glaring at other contestants and having less than absolutely glowing reactions. she's a fake bitch who's trying too hard to be pretty, etc... really, the only good thing that comes out of it is a conversation w/ a producer who tells her she might like it over at culture.
during her audition with them, she tells them straight up she wants to be a singer-songwriter & be allowed to learn more about composing/producing. they're more than happy to, but her first day on the job they put her in a 3-hour dance class. #scammed
buuuuut they also do give her lots of studio time and she's mentored by many wonderful producers, and given opportunities to produce for others even as a trainee so she's a very content girlie.
by the time f/f's started as a predebut project, she's a shoo-in. she's trained for a long-ass time, and the girl's got PIPES on top of what she's got going on for her as a producer! what she doesn't expect, though, is being made the group's leader-- she's one of the younger members, and the role comes as a surprise. she takes it in relative stride, though, and does her best to step up to the role.
personality:
she's currently known best as f/f's leader, main vocal & producer; some think she's only the main vocalist because she has a hand in creating the songs... and honestly? they're not completely wrong! she just thinks she's the best vocalist so she should be getting those parts... lol...
both laidback but also a hard-ass as a leader; runs a super tight ship during practicing/recording. has a super sharp eye and monitors all their rehearsals/performances super closely, and doesn't mince her words when it comes to giving feedback. very much sakura in this clip... believes that they all have to be giving their very best on stage. couldn't care less about what they do outside of it, though. dating? doing drugs? whatever, just don't get caught! is always on the girls' side, though, and is clear when communicating between them and the company.
doesn't do a whole lot outside of the group-- partially to maintain her privacy, partially because she cbf. does a live maybe once every 2 months and fucks off. whatever she does decide to do is very carefully selected so she can maintain her image.
speaking of image!!!!! this is something i'm very excited to talk about and have evolve. she's currently successfully keeping up the perfect idol image very well, but it's also very... distant, in a sense. it's obvious she's not #real, but she's also manufacturing some #real moments. not too many, though- can't have people thinking she's just some girl next door :/ in a nutshell? on a self-made pedestal. love to hate her, hate to love her, she's had no real scandals or controversies after debuting with f/f and she plans to keep it like that, tqvm!
ofc... there is some baseless hate floating around- most of them because of her personality, but she's generally liked by the gp because she's just so good at being an idol & those 'controversies' are largely regarded as losers just being nitpicky.
tldr: she's ai hoshino
reserved & reticent off-screen, but comes off as a generally warm person. stoically takes everything in stride with an unfaltering smile on her face. randomly breaks down when listening to sad songs/movies, but always in private, and it's One (1) tear. u will not get a tear out of her tonight otherwise. takes care of people quietly, but she's always her first priority. a bit of a misandrist, no i will not elaborate. staunchly refuses to write culture a love song. fights with the company 24/7, which is impressive and says a lot about her considering culture's generally more hands off than other companies. see:
culture: hey what about your meal plans and di- abi: finish that sentence and u die by my hand. culture: ok our bad
overall i just think she's a fun muse to have in the mix... if u would like her to be mixed up with ur muse(s) then thank u <3 luv yewwwww if u got to the end of this ....
