it’s funny how everybody in the dream smp is confused on why c!tommy’s so violent & why he always starts wars, as if the motherfucker didn’t grow up in one. as if he didn’t spent his entire life surrounded by people who believed violence was the only answer or grew to believe violence is the only answer. they question why c!tommy’s so full of hatred / anger when the world he’s seen has only ever been full of hatred and violence. you can’t question why he’s that way when it’s all he’s ever known. surely, if he got to grow up like a kid — like he should’ve been able to, he wouldn’t have been that big of a “problem”, for you, but he didn’t. /rp
are. are keyboard smashes a thing. on tumblr.
The stigma of self-inserts is so harmful to the creative process. Relax. Admit it. Everything you make is derivative of yourself, always, no exceptions. You can turn the mirror into tinier and tinier shards or you can make it as big as you want to reflect as much as you want. At the end of the day it's always going to show you inside of it. Pretending otherwise is stupid.
i don’t know what else to do
Also the amazing self-awareness of these movies, not caring about bending over to popular media demand and actually addressing heavy topics instead of censoring or down playing them. 👏
ngl the funniest thing WOTC employees could do rn is unionize while their bosses are distracted
They are going to pass all of their finals
Never have I ever encountered a character so obviously a villain on paper, but that I am so emotionally incapable of thinking of as a villain.
y'all keep sayin that ranboo's character feels like "baby's first oc" and i respectfully disagree. the way ranboo has written his character, how gradually he reveals lore, and how well he acts his scenes out even though he's a fairly new member in the smp, feels like he had already done something similar before, and was already an experienced roleplayer to begin with.
i dont know what fandoms ranboo used to be involved in, but i can bet that he had written an intricately detailed oc atleast twice before, and there's a likely possibility that one of them may have been related to undertale.
you know what does feel like a genuine "baby's first oc" though? karl jacobs' character. you can tell that tales of the smp was something entirely new that he hadn't done before, which explains why the story is a bit unpolished, and his acting isn't quite as immersive, but that's to be expected from a beginner!
hardly anyone ever starts out good right off the bat, and it's always difficult trying things out for the first time. that's why it was incredibly brave of karl jacobs to take that giant leap and tackle something entirely new to him, despite all the struggles that came along the way. the fact that he listens to the community to help improve the story he's writing, just shows how much he's willing to grow and expand his story.
keep this in mind whenever you're watching the tales of the smp. karl jacobs is fairly new when it comes to storytelling, so don't be cruel and shut his ideas down when he hasn't told the rest of the story yet, be patient and supportive with the things he does and creates, cause someday you might come to bite your words.
remember how techno started off a bit awkwardly and had difficulty roleplayin cause whenever a tense situation came up he'd often repeat the same reason hoping the others would catch on that he genuinely couldn't think of anything else to say cause he was too anxious, or how he'd often self-promote or crack some jokes during stressful scenarios cause he couldn't handle those very well.
now technoblade's acting has gotten so significantly better that people are gonna start thinkin he'd always been this good, like no, he's just gotten that good because he's been working hard to get better!! he's mentioned preparing speeches weeks before an event, practicing his lines until he memorized them and could do them with ease.
of course majority of his acting have been majorly improvised, but do you really think he'd get involved in a story without having some ideas of what to say beforehand? techno has been working hard to get better, and it shows. he's not the only person who has gotten better, but he's the best example i could give cause i mainly watch his perspective.
remember: be kind. be patient. be supportive. that's all i ask to y'all. you can give constructive criticism, but if i catch any of you shutting down a new story someone is trying to tell, or straight up ignoring them because you don't think it's gonna go well, you're just being insensitive.
just be supportive. that's all they ever need to continue, to keep pursuing the stories that they want to tell, to share to the world, to us. all of the effort and time they've spent to bring those stories to life were made for us, the viewers, the audience. learn to appreciate what they've done cause it's not easy to tell a story in front of hundreds and thousands of people, knowing that they will criticise every part of it.
oh and one last thing, a clear example of someone's story being ignored and hated simply because most people didn't understand has been fundy's character. you guys are aware that he worked so hard on his story right?
that he wrote 50 pages detailing everything he learned about schlatt, and his potential weaknesses while he was being a spy under his administration, that he carried the start of season two by directly confronting ghostbur about all the awful things he did when he was alive, and how he just wanted c!wilbur's approval and validation only to be discarded, treated like he wasn't worth anything anymore?
fundy carried the beginning of season two when the dream smp was still trying to set up the potential storylines they could develop, and gave us content while the plot remained stagnant for a while. now fundy has expressed that he might be less involved with the lore, because of all the hate he's gotten regarding his character, so you all better learn to appreciate fundy or atleast stop hating on him when you know jack shit about his character alright?
if this ever happens again im going to be severely disappointed knowing that y'all can clearly fucking do better than keep hating on someone and not thinking about all the effort the content creators have put into their stories.
if you can't learn to appreciate content creators then at least be respectful. that's the literally the least you can do, and if you can't do that, you're not welcome here.
do yall ever just sit back and think about how special the exile arc (from tommy’s pov) was? like it just hit me today, i really don’t think i’ve seen anything quite like it in rp, especially in regards to how tommy incorporated the basic mechanics of minecraft to paint this picture of a kid struggling to survive a traumatic situation.
like, there was an entire hour and a half stream where the goal was to create one ender chest. and that was one of the first streams, when c!tommy was doing relatively well. later on the goals devolved into stuff like.. building a new bridge 10 feet away from the old one to make it slightly easier for people to visit, a flimsy excuse to avoid thinking about the real goal of distracting himself
there was over 15 hours of streams about this. when you think about it, nothing really happened, but at the same time, everything happened. it was a small, focused, heavy character study played out in minecraft which is like… i mean, bold move for the Funnie Haha 16 y/o Minecraft Streamer?? ghHGJK??
i just think it’s a lil mind-blowing how well he conveyed the amount of effort it takes for someone to simply stay alive when they’re put in that kind of abusive situation, how the story was paced out and how the audience was drawn in for the ride. sometimes i find myself double-taking and being like. oh yeah. that was a thing that actually happened. huh
