It's time for rat fact number TWO
Today's rat source:
i love prairie dog. he is like a brother to me. i hope they get well soon
hi! love what you do! can we hear more about the massive black tailed prairie dog colony?
Sure!
So, for a bit of context, black-tailed prairie dogs organize themselves first into coteries, or small family groups usually consisting of one adult male, three to four adult females, and pups. Up to a dozen of these coteries make up a 'ward' centered around a natural landmark like a hill; these wards are like neighborhoods, in which coteries are aware of each other but don't interact much. Sometimes a colony consists of a single ward, but more often there will be multiple wards that make up a colony (also called a town). Towns can house miles of interconnected burrows and tunnels which its inhabitants use to move underground.
The largest of these colonies was first described by naturalist Vernon Bailey in the early 1900s. At the time, the colony extended from the city of San Angelo to Clarendon-- a distance of about 430 km (250 mi). Bailey described the inhabitants of the town as "...comparatively tame, standing at the entrance to their hole, flipping their tails, and steadily barking." He also noted that, "When properly prepared and cooked, they are a delicacy."
Unfortunately, disease and extermination regimes have decimated black-tailed prairie dog populations, and it's now estimated that less than 10 million live in the state of Texas.
Advice I gave someone today was: 'do it stupid.'
She wants to learn photography. Do it stupid. Take a million photos. Don't think about why they're not good. Enjoy the process of taking photos.
Pick out tge ones you like the most and figure out why you like them. Is it because the subject is centered? Is it because you caught them doing something cool? Is it because the light made cool shadows?
Do it stupid. If you try to do it smart, youll get stuck. If you think too much you'll never get to doing. Do it stupid.
I just wanna yap about these guys I really love them.
The kori bustard (Ardeotis kori), is the heaviest flying bird, with adult males weighing anywhere between 25-42 lbs. However, they tend to spend most of their lives on land.
While emitting a deep booming call, males will puff up their neck plums and tail feathers for a mating display.
They are native to grasslands, savannas, and wooded areas throughout southern Africa.
These beasts are omnivorous, with diets made up of insects, reptiles, small mammals, small birds, and plant matter such as seeds and berries.
u know the function is satisfactory and these guys are there
A Party of Mice has arrived!
Engineers going to uni for years to learn what beavers 🦫 know intuitively. Embarrassing.
In the dark I tend to wake up early because I like the dark. I tried making a little story to explain it. I love playing with sequential art. Not simply because I want to depict a sequence of event but mostly because I like trying to generate emotions through them. #pascalcampion
