As the clouds roll in black and the timefall begins to drop from the sky, Sam finds himself without shelter for he and Lou. But nearby just happens to be a mechanic, who was conveniently unaffiliated with Bridges.
Thankfully Joel is about when Sam makes his impromptu house call, squalling baby in tow. They make quiet conversation, exchange their โItโs been awhilesโ and then the offer comes up.
Stay.
If it were him alone, Sam would brave the timefall and BTโs no problem, hoof it back to his temporary shelter without another thought. But he had Lou to think of. She was cold, she was hungry, and food was running out fast.
So a decision was gonna have to be made, one way or another.
The time fall wasnโt letting up and Samโs car wasnโt doing so well. There was only one place to go, thankfully there was a road beneath him still.
After a short hike Sam arrived, Lou strapped to his chest beneath his jacket. Joel opened the door, looked Sam up and down and without a word waved the two of them inside. He fanned out a blanket on the floor for Lou and motioned to a cot nearby that Sam could call his own.
They didnโt need to talk, what was there to say? Two tired,old souls who knew what was most important right now and conversation wasnโt one of them.
Lou clacked the plastic cups together happily as Sam lay on his side, watching her all the while. Joel sat opposite, tinkering with a part that had been giving him grief.
In a few hours the two of them would part ways again, with no more than a nod and a new set of wheels beneath them. Sam would call it an IOU. Joel knew he was good for it. There were more important things to consider, and they both knew where to find a vehicle again if needed.
*One Shot*
Joel and Sam run into each other while out on separate runs, and decide two is better than one and work together to get the most out of what each is scavenging for.
When they finally take a moment to catch their breath, Sam notices trouble brewing on the horizon. Joel isnโt too worried but with the strange storms Sam has experienced in the past heโs not taking any chances.
