Hey guys, if you're one of the OG mlp bloggers, you might remember this guy here ^. ask-discord-master-of-chaos

Me and this chump became good friends back during the 2012 ask blog craze, and have been buds ever since. And right now he needs our help. This year has been especially cruel to him. He lost a close friend early in the year, his house burnt down a few months ago, and now his flight to see his girlfriend has gone into the shitter. The company he bought his flight tickets from failed to tell him he needed a tourist visa, and they refuse to buy his ticket back home for him. He hasn't slept since Monday. He's in a hotel atm that he can't afford, and can't even afford to eat. Not only did he spend all his money getting these tickets, but the last remainder was spend just trying to get a new terrarium for his snake to live in after the house fire. He needs $300 URGENTLY. If the goal is filled, he has also promised to not only bring back his blog, but also will be finishing his "Christmas Special" that was left unfinished & abandoned over 10 years ago ^. Me and him will work together to rework and remaster it for this holiday season if the goal is met. A new tool lets artists add invisible changes to the pixels in their art before they upload it online so that if it’s scraped into an AI training set, it can cause the resulting model to break in chaotic and unpredictable ways. 

The tool, called Nightshade, is intended as a way to fight back against AI companies that use artists’ work to train their models without the creator’s permission. Using it to “poison” this training data could damage future iterations of image-generating AI models, such as DALL-E, Midjourney, and Stable Diffusion, by rendering some of their outputs useless—dogs become cats, cars become cows, and so forth. MIT Technology Review got an exclusive preview of the research, which has been submitted for peer review at computer security conference Usenix.   

AI companies such as OpenAI, Meta, Google, and Stability AI are facing a slew of lawsuits from artists who claim that their copyrighted material and personal information was scraped without consent or compensation. Ben Zhao, a professor at the University of Chicago, who led the team that created Nightshade, says the hope is that it will help tip the power balance back from AI companies towards artists, by creating a powerful deterrent against disrespecting artists’ copyright and intellectual property. Meta, Google, Stability AI, and OpenAI did not respond to MIT Technology Review’s request for comment on how they might respond. 

Zhao’s team also developed Glaze, a tool that allows artists to “mask” their own personal style to prevent it from being scraped by AI companies. It works in a similar way to Nightshade: by changing the pixels of images in subtle ways that are invisible to the human eye but manipulate machine-learning models to interpret the image as something different from what it actually shows.

Ok, so I WAS going to contact artists individually and privately, but that was before I realized there would be literally hundreds of artists.

The Youtube channel Super Hedgehog Bros is reposting and monetizing art from HUNDREDS of Sonic artists. In 3 videos alone, all posted within the last week, they have used art from over 100 artists. Their channel is monetized, they are making money from views.

100 artists from 3 videos. The channel has over 400 videos posted. They have over 60k subscribers.

If you're a Sonic artist, especially if you make comics, and you don't want your work reposted for someone else's monetary gain then you should probably have a look and consider if you want to do a copyright claim. Maybe let your friends know too, if you know they care about this sort of thing.

It's literally impossible for me to contact everyone about this, I just need to hope this post finds at least some of the people it matters to!
