I have a question for you: Have you checked your MAPS?

“What’s MAPS you ask? Well it’s a simple little way to remember if the criticism you’re giving is worth posting! It’s as easy as M-A-P-S!

First, does it come from a place of Mutual Respect?

Do you know the author or artist? Do you know them outside of their work? Would you want to hear their opinion on your work? Do you have any work to compare?

Is it the Appropriate Forum?

Are you cold-messaging them via the comments section on AO3? Is this during another conversation you were already having? Will they get a notification and get all excited only to see it’s you picking apart their art?

Do you have Permission?

Did they ask you for input? Did you ask them if they wanted input? Remember, kids, there’s a word for people who give unwanted negative input: asshole!

Is it Specific?

Are you focusing on one or two aspects, or are you criticizing the entire vibe? If you dislike the piece as a whole, maybe it just isn’t for you!

If you answered “no” to any of these questions, put down the keyboard and do something else! Your criticism is probably bad!

And remember, criticism that doesn’t follow the MAPS is just SPAM!

its been rly heartening to see big tumblr accounts with a specific theme (or bit) take a moment to raise awareness for palestine. in many ways being vocally pro-palestine is far, far more important than donations right now. palestinians have said so too. if it weren't it wouldn't be so risky for people to speak out. its a war on human life but it's also a war on the very memory, culture and history of the palestinian people. we can help them fight the second one just by posting. solidarity matters more than anything in this moment.

If you're on the app, immediately go to your dms and then "add friends". After the latest update they allow your contacts to find you and have that option turned on by default, so make sure it's unchecked!

This is very obviously not great for a multitude of reasons, but especially for people in vulnerable positions who do not want people in their contacts to see who they are on discord and/or know they have discord in the first place. I've also tried finding out if this is a thing on desktop but haven't been able to find any mention of it, so either it's not a "feature" (yet) or they've hidden it. Either way, stay safe, and turn off finding friends via contacts!
