So, when I was doing my thesis on whether or not fanfiction should be considered a legitimate genre of literature, my advising professor asked me for examples.  I gave him the generic ones, of course - “Pride & Prejudice and Zombies” is a horror fanfic of “Pride & Prejudice”, “50 Shades of Grey” is an erotica fic of “Twilight" - and that seemed to make him understand what fanfiction is, but not how it’s useful.  So I thought about it, and, after about a minute, I said, “Paradise Lost is basically a fanfiction of the Book of Genesis.  And The Divine Comedy is an epic self-insertion fic for Catholic doctrine.  So, basically, you were teaching us fanfiction last semester.”  I had never before seen a grown man’s eyes widen with such fear, incomprehension, disgust, awe, and understanding.

Throwback thursday to when I was like 12 and I was putting out new writing DAILY...... Like entire Chapters of my then-current wips just, over an afternoon. What the fuck was I on

i be like “writing isn’t my passion” but then proceed to spend every waking hour and even the occasional dream thinking abt a new plot or concept, read essays and the journals of popular authors, literally consume any written material available to me, once stayed up until 2 am three nights in a row to work on a draft that has never seen the light of day, and spend nearly every second of my free time plotting, planning, or writing fics & then tell everyone it’s just a hobby to me

Me: *stops writing* well that’s enough writing for now

Me: *later* Alright time to write!

Me: *staring at where I left off*

There's definitely nothing wrong with "female character stands up to misogyny" stories and they can be really empowering but I personally would love to see more SFF, especially high fantasy, where misogyny just doesn't exist and never did.

There's something really refreshing about seeing women having agency and kicking ass and there never being any question by anyone that they could. I wish there was more of that
