@ rich educated students living in europe or america, studying “russian culture” in their universities and wishing you lived here, or Woke ppl thinking all russians support their government’s actions and do nothing to stop them,
i cannot believe how lucky, privileged and naive yall are.
protests against retirement pension age reforms took place all over russia yesterday. they were unsanctioned, because in russia you’re supposed to apply for the authorities to let you host a protest; otherwise everyone is arrested and beaten up. which is what happened yesterday. these people were out on the streets protesting the recent change in retirement age (it was moved forward, thus making the chance of the government just keeping your money if you die before reaching the retirement age, which happens very often here as russians in general don’t have a long life span thanks to atrocious medical care system and the lack of resources)
stats: more than a 1000 people arrested, including old people, teenagers and children; people beaten up, some of them wounded or with broken limbs, some old people requiring urgent medical care; most of community organisers and opposition leaders detained before the start of the protests. (https://tvrain.ru/news/ovd_info-471172/)
all for a peaceful protest. some of these people knew what to expect, because this is how most of protests end here. some didn’t, and were old and frail, or young, and just wanted to express their discontent. they were treated violently, ruthlessly and cruelly. this is what my country is today.
i am enraged. i am grieving. i HATE that the rest of the world doesn’t care, that the west make all russian developments about themselves and the western media only reports russian news connected to the american elections. i hate that no one ever mentions or notices the suffering of the people, the people arrested and jailed for nothing, the people tortured to death in prisons, oleg sentsov’s hunger strike going on for over 100 days and counting, the murdered journalists, the unbelievably widespread and obvious corruption, the spread of religious propaganda in all civil affairs including education and medicine. nothing changes, nothing ever will. i hate this.
and this post won’t get more than like, 15 notes, most of them likes from my fellow russians. people i know in europe tell me to my fucking face that they consider putin’s regime “strong and powerful”, american commies post memes about stalin and lecture ME, A CRIMEAN TATAR, on how the soviet union was beneficial for the people. i can’t express the kind of despair i feel every day.

i had a dream that "bald man summer" became a thing on this website and people started making edits of walter white and the guy from mythbusters
This is an aspect of Himiko that I deeply appreciate and want to talk about here, especially since I haven’t seen a comprehensive post about this character trait. I think this is especially important given her desire to Kill and Replace, but it also contradicts portrayals of Himiko that construe her as not particularly smart or strategic. Emotional intelligence is actually a huge asset of hers, in many terms, including as a weapon. She exhibits a profound and seemingly intuitive understanding of other people’s emotions and can modify her own behavior accordingly for her own ends. Below is a listed breakdown with specific examples, in no particular order of importance:
1. Intuitive understanding of unspoken feelings
This is probably the most prominent example, and which we see time and again. Himiko repeatedly makes assertions based off tangential information, which she surmises into an accurate reading of other people’s character. Ochako and Izuku are basically complete strangers to her, but with minimal interaction, Himiko’s able to deduce important relationships to both of them. In the latter examples, while Izuku and Jin have alluded to their feelings to or around her, Himiko cuts right to the heart of the issue: not only does Izuku hold Ochako’s abilities in a conflict situation in high regard, he trusts her; not only does Jin feel guilty for Magne’s death, he feels the most guilt, and cooperating with the yakuza hurts him because of his guilt.
She confidently makes a statement about three different characters, and she’s shown to be correct in how she interprets their feelings. Her intuitive deduction often acts as a narrative device to show authorial intent (that Ochako does have a crush, that Izuku does trust her, Jin does feel guilt), so it’s important that her statements are accurate. As a result, she happens to become one of the most emotionally perceptive characters in the series, almost to an unnerving degree, able to correctly make snap judgments about people’s feelings and relationships. But how else do you use a quirk like Transform, right?

wanna hear a wild story? my brother’s history professor is closing in on 80 and basically lives at the university. one night my brother visited him for a meeting, and it came up that my brother was gonna be performing as a court jester at the castle the following day. and his professor busts out: “ah, that reminds me of my youth!”
he then proceeded to tell the tale of when he and his friends went backpacking to greece back in their early 20s. then one day they found themselves completely penniless. so they decided that the only reasonable thing to do was to set up acrobatic shows in skimpy outfits on the beach at day, and then drink up the money at night.
after a week or so they gained some traction, and a gang of young greek men walked up to them like “hey y’all are cool as hell, can we join y’all for drinks tonight?” and my brother’s professor was like “of course! y’all have to wear these revealing outfits and do somersaults with us tho” and the greek gang said “sounds dope. y’all are invited to live with us for however long y’all want.”
anyhow, they proceeded to live like this for the better part of 3 months, doing shows, drinking, and sleeping at the greek gang’s apartment. but after a while they decided enough was enough, and said thank you for everything, but we’re going back to sweden now. and the greeks said “sure! love y’all have a safe trip xx”
half a year later my brother’s professor gets contacted by the greek police. they ask him about the months they spent in greece, and then informs him that their greek friends have been convicted of serial homicide and robbery. that the group of young greek men had joined up with several tourist groups for several years “for drinks”, and then killed and robbed them all, terrorising the beach city for several years. with one exception, of course, because “this one group of swedish acrobats in slutty strongman suits were just ‘so damn nice’”.
and that’s the story of how one swedish history university professor survived sharing a flat with a group of serial killers for several months by performing acrobatics in slutty outfits on the beach. moral of the story? be kind of heart, thicc of ass.
this took so long bc i was too busy listening to vocaloid THROWBAX
A sort-of sequel to this
“That character can’t be trans, because ____”
“They have a higher/lower pitched voice!” Voice pitch doesn’t indicate gender. Some boys/men have higher pitched voices and some women have lower pitched voices, whether or not they’re trans. Trans people, usually adults, can also go through vocal training to make their voices higher/lower. Another thing to consider is that for younger characters, all voices are pretty high pitched. Young boys can often sing soprano in choirs and there’s a reason young cartoon boys are often voiced by teenage girls.
“We’ve seen them shirtless/in a bra!” Shirtless trans boys: If they are younger, puberty might not have kicked in yet, so they have a flat chest. For older boys who would have gone through/are going through puberty, they could just have small breasts, took/are taking puberty blockers, or are taking T. Any boy who is 18+ may have gotten top surgery. Trans girls with bras: This mostly applies to teenage/adult characters. They could be wearing a water bra/stuffed a bra/bra with padding. Again, they could also be taking hormones or have had top surgery done.
“They’re too young/too old to be trans!” You are never the wrong age to realize you’re trans. Young kids can know as soon as they are developed enough to actually think/process things. For older people, they might have not realized what they were feeling was something significant/not just a random thought or that it is okay to be trans until recently. It could also be that they transitioned some time before, maybe when they were young, maybe not. This is a really weak argument.
“The creator said they weren’t trans!” It really doesn’t matter. If the creator of a show says they’re not trans then they aren’t trans in canon, but that won’t stop us from imagining these characters as trans. Part of being in a fandom is recreating the characters and showing them to others in a new light, that might not be canon, but honestly who cares? A lot of artists and writers can show our favorite characters as trans in a good/cool way while not making that the whole idea of the work. As long as the original traits of the character aren’t lost, it’s fantastic. Getting upset for this reason is like getting upset because someone colored a person’s hair the wrong shade of brown.
“I don’t want my favorite characters to be trans!” Congrats, you’re transphobic. I’d also like to point out that just because you don’t really agree with/can’t see a character being trans doesn’t really make you transphobic. In fact, I even have trouble seeing some characters as trans. But if it makes you cry cis tears/makes you mad to see trans people have fun/don’t like the idea of rubbing our little trans hands all over it, you are transphobic.
Any other bullshit reason I don’t give a shit, any character can be trans and we don’t need reasoning to think that.
Also take into consideration characters who haven’t realized their trans/haven’t come out yet and don’t present as their actual gender
