something about reducing Skye's final moments, her saying "you won't" to Viktor saying he'd miss talking with her, to jokes about her knowing Viktor was gay just doesn't sit right with me. in this act, Viktor is essentially killing her for the second time. whether you believe that it was actually her or a merely a representation of his humanity, it was, in its own way, very violent. Viktor had known her for years, since they were children, then worked with her (although not closely) at the academy, and then spent months with her in his head at the commune. he was led into the Undercity by her, fostered that community with her, and helped heal Vander's mind at her side. Skye Young in many ways represented the good that Viktor sought to do, him getting rid of her like that is a tragedy. treat it like it is!

i personally think the reason why so many people struggle to like guren is bc heās v representative of humanity. of us. how many of us could honestly say we wouldnāt sacrifice everything for our family of choice? what makes guren hard to like is that he forces to confront thisĀ āless moralā side of all of us because he does. he sacrifices the world, the entire human race, to get his squad, his family back.
itās cute when yuu says it for mika bc weāve seen their characters as children, but weāre first introduced to guren as an adult. heās 24 in vampire reign, and since thatās how heās first introduced, he sticks in our heads best at this age. we forget that he was 16 when he lost shinya, sayuri, mito, goshi, and shigureāÆthe same age yuu was when he chose mika over the world (kind of. theyāre working on a plan, but itās pretty obvious that if it comes down to it, he absolutely would choose mika over everyone.) but because weāre used to seeing guren as an adult and a high ranking military officer, thereās this expectation that heās responsible enough to not make that kind of decision.
and yet, we watch him continue to make those decisions to bring back humanity without losing his family, because thatās his modus operandi. at the end of the day, thereās is no one more important to him than his family.
and honestly, how many of us can truly say we wouldnāt have done the same thing in his place?
(iād also like to point out that i was around 14 when i first found the series and caught up on everythingāÆi didnāt like guren v much the first time around and thought he was honestly, quite annoying. at 19, and a whole pandemic later, i think i understand where heās coming from. heās quite brilliantly written in that way, the definition ofĀ āyouāll understand when youāre older.ā)
