This cluster of stars shines like falling snow caught in the moonlight. This cluster, which is only about 500,000 years old, resides 8,000 light-years away in the Carina Nebula, and contains some of the largest and brightest stars seen in the entire Milky Way galaxy. 

Since the rate of star formation in galaxies like these is so rapid, they will eventually erode all the surrounding gas. These large stars burn their fuel so ferociously that they will explode as supernovas in just a few million years. 

Their explosions will release material that, when combined with nearby gas and dust, will start a brand-new generation of stars.
