Weāre only finding out recently that a lot of animals have colors and patterns that we cannot see because theyāre outside of our visual range. It calls to attention how much of the world we canāt experience because our senses are limited. When we shine UV lights on them, they glow pink or blue, but these are the colors that we CAN seeā¦. they could be a bunch of different colors, which we SEE as all pink. Itās also interesting to consider that most of these animals are not aware of having glowing patches on their bodiesā¦. isnāt it also possible that we have skin or hair patterns that were not aware of? . . (There is actually some research out there to support the idea that our own skin fluoresces as well and that there are gender differences in the pattern and glow.) the suffering never ends
Thereās a reason lots of good parents say to babies stuff like
āYouāre excited to go to the park!ā
āOh, it makes you mad that we canāt go outside.ā
And then when the babies get a little bit older the parents can say
āYou seem upset. Are you sad?ā
āAre you excited that gramma is coming over today?ā
Which lets the kid (who is learning to utilize speech) respond with yes or no, which may prompt more questions, like
āSo you arenāt sad, are you angry?ā
āYes, does it make you happy when gramma is here?ā
And then, finally, when the child is learning to use language in a more complex way, the parents can say,
āHow does it make you feel?ā
āWhy are you feeling like that?ā
And itās all about teaching emotional awareness. I really reccomend using the process on yourself. Learn to ask, āam I happy?ā āAm I sad?ā āAm I anxious?ā
Then practice identifying, out loud or on paper if you can, āIām happy.ā āIām upset.ā āIām sad.ā āIām anxious.ā
Final step: āWhy am I feeling anxious? Iām still thinking about that awkward conversation earlier.ā āWhy am I happy? Itās such a beautiful day outside.ā āWhy am I sad? None of my friends are responding to my messages.ā
It really helps you notice patterns (āIām more likely to be happy when Iām around this person.ā āWhen I havenāt eaten, I often feel angry.ā āIf I donāt plan ahead, I get anxious.ā) which is the first step in avoiding things and people that are bad for you and encouraging things and people that are good.

This is based on decades of experience as an uncle and as an older brother.
Never forget that children are just as much people as adults are.
Kids 10 years or younger (and sometimes older than that) don't get sarcasm or irony, so don't use them.
If a child has difficulty pronouncing a word, don't copy their misprounciation when speaking to them. They can hear the word just fine. It could sound to them like you're making fun of them.
(Yes, this means no babytalk)
Don't be dismissive.
Listen to what they're saying.
To get on the same eye-level, don't bend over or squat: it seems condescending. Kneeling or sitting are better.
It should go without saying that you should respect children's body autonomy. Don't force affection on them.
Respect children's emotional autonomy as well. Let them be angry. Let them be sad. Don't force them to be happy.
Let children like things. Don't run down the things they like just because you find them cringy.
Don't think that you know better.
To children, adults are giants. Be a big friendly giant.
Don't stifle children's curiosity.
Don't stifle children's enthusiasm.
To quote Sondheim, "Be careful the words you say, children will listen."
Don't look down on children.

Disney Princesses by Maxine Vee
Callum is a foil for each of the three antagonists, and each season focuses on a different pairing.
During Season 2, Callumās arc was a foil to Claudiaās. I break down some of the similarities between them here. Callum and Claudia both exhibit a curiosity to learn more about magic (particularly at the Moon Nexus), and both are fiercely protective of those closest to them. To the extent they will use Dark Magic to protect them.
But whereas Callum tries it once and decides to reject it for good, Claudia continues to succumb to this temptation, time and time again.
During Season 3, Callumās development is contrasted with Aaravos. At this point, Callum is, like Aaravos, a magical prodigy; each had mastered at least one Primal Source they werenāt born connected to.
Additionally, both demonstrate great influence over the lives of those around them. But they are diametrically opposed in terms of their goals. Whereas Aaravos cares primarily about advancing his own interests, Callum wants to genuinely help people, and empower them to make their own choices (as opposed to manipulating them like Aaravos).
This foil can be summed up simplyāCallum is motivated by the Narrative of Love. Aaravos is motivated by the Narrative of Fear.
Harrow: āI ask you and your brother to reject history as a narrative of strength and instead have faith that it can be a narrative of love.ā
Aaravos: āYou tried to win over the other humans with loyalty and friendship, but they ignored you. Those who fail tests of love are simple animals. They deserve to be motivated by fear.ā
But the focus here is on Viren and Callum, and starting in Season 1 and throughout the first three seasons, Viren and Callum have very deep, narratively important parallels with one another.
Both are the mages who advise their respective Kings.
Callum: āWhen you grow up, sometimes you have to face things youāre not ready for.ā
Viren: āHe insisted I stand next to him in the painting, because he knew I would stand by him through anything.ā
Both are curious and want to explore the depths of magic to the greatest extent possible.
Viren and Callum are also both insecure in their place in the world, relying (at least initially) on magic to help give them a sense of belonging
But their differences not only define their dynamic, they also define many elements and themes to the Saga, in particular as to what it means to be a hero.
To begin, Viren is great, though not necessarily good. That is to say, even though he may be capable of great deeds that save countless lives (such as in saving the people of Duren with the heart of a Titan), these deeds donāt actually make him a heroic person.
This is because every great deed he did stemmed not from altruism or compassion (no matter how well he convinced himself that it did), but from his tragic flaws: his arrogance, his vanity, and importantly, his hubrisāhis belief that he can subvert the natural order in his favor without consequence.
From what we can gather, Viren is a force to be reckoned with. His skills with magic have made him so powerful, he can cast a spell that would save two kingdoms from starvation.
They are also such that heās considered by Amaya, a talented warrior herself, perhaps āthe most dangerous human in the world.ā
His martial prowess is quite exceptional as well, as heās able to go toe to toe with two Dragonguards for a time. Even though theyāre elite fighters and theyāre flanking him, heās able to hold his own for a while before having to resort to magic.
However, Viren is a tragic character. I donāt mean this in the sense that we should feel sorry for the power-hungry man who attempted to murder two boys and steal the throne. Rather, his āgreatnessā is undermined by his personal flaws, which he canāt quite shake and prevent him from being good.
Part of Viren sincerely wants to improve life for his people. When talking to Aaravos, to whom he has no motivation to lie, he states his aim is to help mankind flourish āwithout a knife to its throatā
Heās even willing to consider sacrificing himself, either for King Harrow or, in Lux Aurea, for his army.
Aaravos: āWeāll risk as few lives as possible. One.ā
Viren: āAh. Mine.ā
But as per his hubris, he exhibits great pride in how his abilities can help mankind flourish or save his people. While he wants mankind to prosper, he wants this to be his achievement and wants people to know that he is the one who saved them.
In his story to Queen Aanya, he places a bit of undue emphasis on the fact that he was the one who up with a solution that saved Katolis and Duren. Whether or not this is what happened, itās clear that he wants Aanya to know that he personally saved her kingdom.
A little less unclear is how necessary he ultimately was. Sarai goes back to save Viren because āwithout him to perform the spell, the heart is worthless, and this was all for nothing.ā
Iāmā¦skeptical as to whether this is what Sarai says, or if itās Viren intentionally or unintentionally reading in what he wants her to say.Ā Truth be told, Viren has no idea if this is what Sarai said because he wasnāt there when she said it. And why is the heart worthless? Viren wasnāt the only Dark Mage in the world, and probably not the only one between Duren and Katolis. Thereās no reason why another mage couldnāt perform the spell.
But for Viren, the heart of the Titan might as well have been worthless because, in his mind, heās the only capable of accomplishing these great feats.
Even when he was potentially willing to sacrifice his life for Harrow, he botched it with his Ā speech to Harrow.
Viren: āRight now I do not come to you as my King. I think of you as my brother.ā
Truth is, none of this throat-clearing is necessary. But, Virenās not quite so humble, even when heās attempting to do the right thing. He still wants to be seen as someone special, even when laying his life down for another.
Turns out, this was entirely the wrong thing to say to Harrow, who is put off by Virenās self-righteousness.
Harrow: āI see the problem now. Itās that you believe you are special. Better than everyone else, above the laws of this kingdom.ā
When heās forced to kneel and Harrow calls him a servant, this infuriates Viren and he sets aside any plans he had to sacrifice himself for his King.
Harrow: āYou are a servant of Katolis. You are a servant.ā
Because if Viren is going to sacrifice himself, he needs people to know what a great thing it is that heās doing. Heās not a mere servant, heās their savior.
Itās interesting that Virenās pride is so hurt of being called a servant of Katolis, since thatās exactly how Harrow sees himself, according to Viren.
Viren: āKing Harrow worked tirelessly. He told me he thought of himself as a servant of all the people of Katolis. A servant King.ā
But Viren doesnāt see himself in this way. When his potential sacrifice is treated with the same level of significance as though he were anybody else, it offends him that he has to share that importance with others.
And thus, his pride leads to his downfall, casting aside his desire to protect his King, and replaces it with a desire to be the King himself.
Viren: āToday, we must mourn sevenfold. For tonight, there will be a coronation.ā
Callum, on the other hand, begins his journey on the opposite side of the spectrum from Viren. Whereas Viren can accomplish great feats without being good, Callum is a good person, though not great.
At least, not yet.
According to the main site, āCallum has a big heart, and always tries to do the right thing.ā
He can be super proud of himself and his accomplishments, but he usually has enough perspective to avoid letting this get in the way of what he knows is important. For instance, he connects to the Sky Primal, something thought of as impossible for humans, he immediately shifts his attention to Ezran, never once bragging or reminding people of his accomplishments.
Corvus: Thatās incredible, Prince Callum.
Callum: Thanksā¦uh, who are you?
And, when it comes time to laying his life on the line for others, he never hesitates. Notably, around the same time as Viren was thinking about sacrificing his life for Harrow, Callum was preparing to sacrifice himself for his actual brother, but with none of the bravado or self-righteous congratulating of himself.
Just a solemn, quiet attempt to save his brother, even at the cost of his own life, and even without anyone finding out about his sacrifice.
For Rayla, he performs Dark Magic, knowing how much she could possibly hate him for it, but deciding that her life is worth more than how she sees him.
Callum may start out with a big heart, but when it comes to his skills, wellā¦
But if Viren begins as both powerful and amoral, it makes perfect sense to have Callumās arc to begin as his oppositeāsomeone without any special abilities but with a strong moral compass.
Because of this, we get to see him go from good to great. And his story walks this fine line, where he develops these magical abilities to perform heroic feats walking hand in hand with the realization that he doesnāt need magic to be heroic.
Callum: āItās up to us now. We have to return this egg. We have to keep it safe and carry it to Xadia.ā
Callum has the same temptation as Virenāthis need to be someone important, which is a big part of his arc in S1 and S2.
In S1, he initially places a high premium on his sense of self-worth, willing to put their mission in jeopardy just so he can obtain an object that might help him become a better mage.
He assigns great importance to objects (such as the Primal Stone and the Key of Aaravos) rather than focusing on people or lives. Much in line with the way a Dark Mage would attach significance to magical components that are needed for spells.
Callum: āThe truth is, its not me. Itās this. All the magic, all the power, all the confidence. Itās just because of this amazing thing. A Primal Stone.ā
Ellis: āThat Primal Stone needs you to do all that amazing stuff. Without you, itās just a neat, glowy ball.ā
Callum: āI guess so. But without this, Iām nothing. Just a guy who can draw and make wry comments from time to time. And theyāre not even that wry.ā
Much like how Viren assigns great value to the mirror or the Dragon Egg, even above his own childrenās lives.
Viren: āThe egg. If you have to choose [between Soren and the egg], choose the egg.ā
But by the end of S1, he realizes just how much more important the lives of his friends and the Dragon Prince are over his own sense of pride or self-worth. Unlike Viren, who places a great degree of importance to his sacrifice (honestly, Harrow should be honored that Viren would consider throwing himself on the sword for a mere king), Callum simply makes the realization of what he needs to doā¦and then does it.
S2 follows the aftermath of his decision, and Callum has to deal with no longer having his mage abilities. Again, he latches his entire sense of self-worth to be able to do magic.
As @raayllumā points out here, he also aligns his ability to do magic toĀ agency. Without magic, heās paralyzed by indecision and an inability to do the right thing. He believes himself imprisoned by his inadequacy.
Callum: āIf weāre really going to change things, we canāt just watch while humans and Xadia keep hurting each other. But how do I take a stand? Believe me, I want to go down there with you, and be the heroes who stop all the fighting and save the day, but I canāt do that. I canāt do anything!ā
And he follows this line of reasoning to its logical conclusion:
Dark Magic
Dark Magic gives him all the power he needs. If Callum wants to be special (like Viren), if he wants to have agency and freedom for himself, this is the path he can take.
Dark!Callum: āYou can have unlimited power, and you can choose what to do with that power.
And in that moment, heās tempted. Truly, heās tempted, to commit to this path, set himself free from his past limitations and feelings of worthlessness.
He can become like Viren, and make himself greatā¦but in a moment of clarity, he sees Dark Magic for what it truly is.
This isnāt freedom. Itās not the power he wants.
Itās just another prison.
And unlike Viren, who succumbs to this temptation, Callum sees through it.
Whatās noteworthy is that Callum doesnāt press on the point that itās possible for him to learn an Arcanum and do magic some other. He doesnāt insist he can make this choice easy on himself; he chooses that, Arcanum or no Arcanum, this is not the kind of magic he will choose to do.
Callum: āDestiny is a book you write yourself!ā
Instead of attaching his sense of self-worth and agency to magic, he breaks free of this toxic cycle and seizes the ability to direct his own fate.
This is a lesson that he then passes on to others.
Rayla: āWhat does this mean? What should I do?
Callum: Ā āI donāt know. But itās your choice. No one elseās.ā
He finds his agency and self-worth independent of his ability to do magic, and realizes that his potential is actually in his complete control. Fittingly, itās this realization that completes his journey to finally understand the Sky Arcanum.
In the end, Viren and Callum are quite similar, but the former lets his flaws get the better of him, his pride sinking him until he becomes malicious, grasping, and power-hungry. Eyes set on stealing the power to make him important.
The latter ascends past his prior limitations, refusing to yield to his own worst impulses.
Moreover, Callum holds on to his ideals in the face of adversity, even at his own expense, while Viren constantly tries to find āpragmaticā and expedient solutions to problems that always happen to end up with him on top of everyone else. Viren continues his dramatic decline, eagerly crossing one moral horizon after another, until by the end, he admits to Aaravos what he is really after is conquest; heās willing to steal Zymās life force just to become more powerful, sacrificing the entirety of his army to do it.
Callum, on the other hand, begins to truly understand what can make a good-natured person into a hero.
He expresses it in a speech about Raylaā¦
Callum: āItās because Rayla is a heroā¦Rayla saves people. Sheās brave. She does whatās right, even if it puts her own life in danger, and even when the odds seem impossible. Even when it means her own people might misunderstand and turn against her. Rayla is selfless, strong and caring. Thatās what makes her a hero. Thatās what makes her Rayla.ā
ā¦and then proceeds to do each and every one of those things on the pinnacle. He bravely leaps after Raylaāeven though it put his own life in dangerābecause itās the right thing to do. Even though the odds of quickly mastering a complex spell on the way down seemed impossible.
Viren thinks his great feats are a substitute for a good character. Callumās journey, on the other hand, is learning those character traits that make one heroic. He realizes, not only that Rayla is āselfless, strong, and caring,ā but alsoĀ why and more importantly, why he can be those things too.
And this dynamic between Viren and Callum culminates in the finale, where one fallsā¦
ā¦and the other rises.
Short comic, while I work on something bigger on the side. It is nevertheless a very important topic. A lot of seabirds die because they eat plastic. They feed their chicks with the waste. Itās really tragic.
People messing with their textbook mini DUMP
As 2010ā²s draw near to the end and begin a next-generation, cartoons have changed from being a fun episodic adventure with a meaningful message and can get dark sometimes to a story-driven show with deep messages. While cartoons have a great start in early 2010s such as Adventure Time, Regular Show, Gravity Falls, and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, however as time passes cartoons are becoming less interesting and not many arenāt talking about it. So what the hell happened with modern cartoons? Letās get to the bottom of what happened to this decade of cartoons and why isnāt anyone talking about it anymoreĀ
The Animation QualityĀ
The quality of the animation of cartoons back in 2000ā²s were amazing, so many variations of animation styles that look very appealing such asĀ
Samurai JackĀ
Avatar: The Last AirbenderĀ
Fosters Home for Imaginary FriendsĀ
RecessĀ
Proud Family and so many more
But now in modern cartoons, most cartoon shows are using a similar style of animation which many people called it āCalarts styleā. Most cartoon shows are using because itās cheap however it takes away creativity, more detail nor being organic. Look at Infinity Train, compare from the pilot to the releaseĀ
It looks very boring having most cartoons look the same. Then thereās artistic freedom where creators let them draw whatever they want such as Steven Universe and OK KO. That sounds good but really though it just looks lazy and unprofessional. This is very distracting that most characters go off-model every scene like why Rebecca and Ian-Jones Quarry think it was a good idea!Ā
Great to Below Average
So now letās talk about the three shows that were once popular Steven Universe, Voltron, and Star vs The Forces of Evil. The trope Iāve been seeing as of late about these shows that it was pretty hype and they deliver on that. All they need to do is conclude it and call it a good cartoon but then crash and burned in later seasons.Ā
Steven Universe didnāt get popular until āJailbreakā and that was when everyone was watching it. It had character development, an interesting world of gems, a gorgeous background and has one of the best soundtracks. This isnāt surprising because the creator is the same person who wrote Marceline episodes in Adventure Time which was Rebecca Sugar that created the series. Then season 4 and season 5 happened which the show drop in quality like mostly the show prefer showing filler which makes the plot go too fast and made arcs underwhelming, crystals gems and Lapis Lazuli and Peridot arenāt being used that much in the show and having each villain being beaten by simply talking to them. While there is Steven Universe Future but that hasnāt gotten interesting in my opinion.Ā
Star vs The Forces of Evil is a show used to be interesting for the two seasons and āBattle for Mewniā arc but then shipping drama got out of hand and that resulted to fell from graceĀ
Then thereās Voltron and we all how that turned out for the last two seasons
What these three have in common that they set up this interesting premise and world in the first few seasons but they all went downhill. Awful character writing, insane plot twist, and terrible pacing. I did wish that those shows would get better like how Adventure Time and Regular Show had one bad season but after that, they both got better but they didnāt and it went from being great to disappointingly average.Ā
Comedy Over Messages
Now thatās got the most hype shows, letās talk about shows that not many people talk about because the premise and world arenāt engaging enough to watch and which they are We Bare Bears, Craig in the Creek, Clarence, OK KO, and The Loud House. While Iām not saying they arenāt bad but it is just not interesting to watch, itās just that itās too tame and too comedic. The main issue I have it doesnāt really teach viewers like they used to anymoreĀ
OK KO was about to talk about gun violence but they turn it into a comedy. In āLetās Not Be Skeletonsā people overuse the gun and resulting everyone to turn skeletons and KO tries to stop it but fails. By the end of the episode, it was a dream and calls Congress to stop it from happening. I really hate how writers of this episode of making a serious issue turn into comedy and thatās a pretty awful way of doing it.Ā
Look at Static Shock and Fat Albert, instead of making Gun Violence a joke, they talk about how serious it is by having someone shot and that devastated the characters a lotĀ
Then thereās Hey Arnold, it really dives into serious issues such asĀ
āPigeon Manā showcases that some people are meant to be with other people while others like Pigeon Man are just different and canāt be with other people.Ā
āHelga on the Couchā showcases Helgaās anger issues and those issues manifest because her family ignores her because of her sister. Never truly cares for like no makes her lunch for school and no one brought her to school when she was a young girl. The only person that cares for was Arnold.
Then thereās my personal favorite, āArnold Christmasā. Mr. Hyunh is always sad at Christmas and this episode revealed that he had a daughter and all he wanted was to see her grow up but there was a war coming near his village. In order to do so, he had to give her up so she can have a better life. It took 20 years to get out of the country and he almost gave up hope to find her until Helga helped Arnold to search for her and be reunited with her father.Ā
Modern cartoons donāt show those kinds of messages anymore and thereās something worse than that and I hate how cartoon shows keep doing this.Ā
Todayās Villains
Iā ve been seeing a lot lately that the main antagonist isnāt handled well in cartoons as of lately. Most villains have been getting redeemed lately and not paying their crimes. While show creatures try to make them sympathetic and the victim however it doesnāt excuse them for their crimes.Ā
White Diamond who caused multiple mass genocide on worlds, brainwash any gem that stands in her way and shatter gems gets easily defeated by simply getting talk to and just not gonna do it anymore because Steven said so.Ā
Mina Loveberry and her Mewni soldiers wanted to destroy monsters. When her and her army magic depleted, she just goes in the wilderness and no one stopped her.Ā
Moon Butterfly helped Mina create her soldiers so she can retake the throne from Ecipsa. Instead of having the monsters and her surrendering the throne that she was attending to do, however, her plan backfired when Mewni Soldiers and Mina wanted to kill all the monsters. Why didnāt Moon saw that coming, they were clearly racist against them. Then by the end of the show, she never once apologized for what she has done.Ā
Starlight Glimmer created a cult that no one has cutie marks until the mane six defeated her in āCutie Mapā She returns and her revenge on Twilight by going back in time and making sure Rainbow Dash doesnāt perform the Sonic Rainboom. After multiple going to multiple timelines, she finally catches up to her and then her tragic backstory been revealed and it was very disappointing. The reason she caused all of this because her friend moved away and thatās it. Thatās not all, instead of her facing her crimes like most villains such as Tirek or Queen Chrysalis, she gets off the hook and she became friends with Twilight in a matter of minutesĀ
A good example of a good antagonist is Aku from Samurai Jack. When he first appeared in the show, heās pure evil, destroying anything that stood in his way and ruling over the weakĀ but as the show progresses, the serious villain became more comedic villain but that doesnāt mean heās a silly character, heās far from that. Heās still all-powerful and should be taken seriously. This is what I want from a villain.Ā Heās powerful, heās truly evil and has a personality.Ā
Villains can be sympathetic and relatable however shouldnāt be forgiven so easily. When a character crosses the line by taking multiple innocent lives should never be redeemed, even if they have a sad backstoryĀ
Cartoons lately have become less popular in this past decade, the glaring problems about cartoons are its animation, comedy over messages, messy plots, and terrible villain. People will only talk about cartoons from the late ā80s to 2012. Iām afraid that this day of age that it isnāt appealing anymore than in previous years. The only animation that people will talk about is anime shows which I canāt lie, is far superior to cartoons as of now. I feel that the only way it can make it back on top is it needs something like Adventure Time or Gravity Falls moment that reinvent it more relevant and view to modern audiences. I really do like to watch cartoon shows for animation, message, and characters but I keep seeing issues in modern cartoons and I hope that it will change in the future.Ā

Damn... poor boy
The Atlas personality,Ā drawing on the myth of the giant Atlas from Greek mythology upholding the world,Ā is typically found in a person who felt obliged during childhood to take on responsibilities (extending beyond normal household chores or looking after siblings) such as providing psychological support to parental figures, often in a chaotic family situation.
The result in adult life can be a personality devoid of fun,
andĀ feeling the weight of the world on their shoulders.Ā
Depression and anxiety,Ā
as well as over-sensitivity to othersĀ
and an inability to assert their own needs, are further identifiable characteristics.Ā
In addition, there may also be an underlying rage against a parentĀ for not having provided love, and for exploiting the child for their own narcissistic needs.
While Atlas personalities may appear to function adequately as adults,Ā
they may be pervaded with a sense of emptiness and be lacking in vitality.
