Both Elliot and Darlene get to live and heal. Elliot's DID is talked about, it's so beautifully touched on and never vilified. It never makes him the bad guy, and it doesn't end with his death. Its about how love, familial love, can be so strong that it can help you through the darkest times and I'm honestly still crying thinking about it.
