The “Tony is responsible for most of the bad things that happen in the Marvel universe” discourse is false... and exhausting.

I’m just gonna break down the villains and main conflicts in the MCU so far. Let’s see how many Tony’s “~responsible” for.

Obadiah Stane in Iron Man: How is Tony responsible for his psuedo-father figure and business partner dealing weapons under the table and shutting him out of Stark Industries? The second Tony found out, he tried his best to resolve it. Tony didn’t force Obie’s hand, didn’t lead to Obie’s evil actions. Tony was 100% a victim of Stane’s evil machinations. Tony and Pepper were then the ones to shut down Obie in the end.

Verdict?: Not Tony’s fault.

Abomination in The Incredible Hulk: Tony had no role to play in Abomination’s creation. He doesn’t dabble in Gamma radiation. He hasn’t tried to recreate the Super Soldier Serum. He was divorced from any military connections at this point. There’s absolutely zero connection Tony has to this story outside of his cameo at the end where he tells Bruce about the Avengers (which was retconned anyway).

Verdict?: Not Tony’s fault.

Ivan Vanko in Iron Man 2: If blame should be leveled at anyone, it’s Ivan’s drunken, abusive father Anton Vanko (even then Ivan is a big boy who can make his own decisions; he’s not the only one who had a shitty father). Yeah, Howard had his ass deported and “stole” Anton’s work, but Anton was a dick-cheese – and that still isn’t Tony’s fault. All that shit happened before Tony was even born.

Verdict?: Not Tony’s fault.

Loki in Thor: Yep. Tony somehow played a role in what went on there all the way on another damn planet. He is totally responsible for Odin’s shit-ass parenting, which led to this clusterfuck of a sibling rivalry. /sarcasm

Verdict?: Not Tony’s fault.

Red Skull in Captain America: The First Avenger: Tony must’ve developed a time machine or something in order to bring HYDRA into existence. ‘Cuz otherwise I’m not really seeing how he played a role there.

Verdict?: Not Tony’s fault.

Thanos/Loki/Chitauri in The Avengers: In no way did Tony do anything to enable Loki coming to Earth to try and steal the Tesseract. Tony wasn’t even the one to find the Tesseract, study it, or mess with it. The only thing Tony did in this movie that “aided” the bad guys was design a clean, self-sufficient energy source (the Industrial Arc Reactor) which he was using to power Stark Tower. That was something good that got turned to evil. In the end, Tony was the one who saved NYC. So… yeah. Tony was, of course, ~the villain.

Verdict?: Not Tony’s fault. (Although his revolutionary clean energy tech did allow for the Space Stone to open a portal, but Tony couldn’t have known that was going to happen.)

Aldrich Killian in Iron Man 3: Yeah, Tony stood up Killian at the NYE party in 1999, but that is no excuse for Killian becoming an asswipe supreme who decided to weaponize human beings for his own evil devices. Blaming Tony for ditching a creepy fucker who kept trying to get his attention is gross. Imagine if Tony were a woman in that situation where he evaded Killian. Just cuz he’s a dude doesn’t make Killian’s advances less unwanted. The main threat in this film was Extremis, which was Maya Hansen and Killian’s brainchild – it wasn’t even something Tony developed. So, I mean, Tony didn’t do shit here.

Verdict?: Not Tony’s fault.

Malekith in Thor: The Dark World: …… I don’t even know what to say there lmao I guess if reincarnation is a thing, Tony’s soul could’ve been chillin’ with the Dark Elves way back when.

Verdict?: Not Tony’s fault.

Alexander Pierce and HYDRA in Captain America: The Winter Soldier: Again, unless it’s ever revealed Tony has been a super-secret HYDRA agent…… (And “Project Insight” was targeting Tony so he’s damn super, special undercover in that case if he was willing to torch his own ass for his nefarious, overarching evil goals).

Verdict?: Not Tony’s fault.

Ronan in Guardians of the Galaxy: Yeeppp. Tony was all up in that Orb heist scheme. Totally in bed with Thanos. Yep.

Verdict?: Not Tony’s fault.

Ultron in Age of Ultron: This is the only film where I’d say Tony has his share of blame. But that’s it: a share. Tony wasn’t 100% responsible for Ultron – Bruce, Wanda, and the Mind Stone itself all played a role. Even so, Tony – along with everyone else – worked to end the threat of Ultron and succeeded.

Verdict?: Partially Tony’s fault.

Yellowjacket in Ant-Man: Tony isn’t now allowed anywhere near Pym particles (per Hank Pym) so…. yeah. Don’t think he had any hand in this mess.

Verdict?: Not Tony’s fault.

Helmut Zemo in Captain America: Civil War: Tony was a pawn in Zemo’s plan for revenge just as much as Steve Rogers was. Per the screenwriters of the film, neither Tony nor Steve was “wrong” or “right” – they were both emotionally manipulated.

As for “Tony is responsible for the Accords?” Several incidents were cited as cause for the Accords (per the video Ross showed the group):

The Battle of NYC (from The Avengers)

The Helicarriers’ collapse (from CA:TWS)

Battle of Sokovia (from AoU)

Hulk’s rampage in Johannesburg (from AoU)

The Bomb in Lagos (from CA:CW).

Tony was only partially responsible for two of those incidents (NYC and Sokovia). NYC because, like all the other Avengers + the Chitauri + Loki, they were dealing collateral damage. And Sokovia for obvious reasons.

I am so tired of the “Tony Stark is the only one who requires oversight” bullshit.

Verdict?: Not Tony’s fault. (Though he is partially responsible for the creation of the Sokovia Accords – but so are all the other Avengers)

Kaecilius and Dormammu from Doctor Strange: Yeah, Tony “I Hate Magic” Stark is totes meddling with the Dark Dimension.

Verdict?: Not Tony’s fault.

Ego from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: …. I mean… again. I don’t even know what to say. Tony is in cahoots with a maniacal, sentient planet now?

Verdict?: Not Tony’s fault.

Vulture from Spider-Man: Homecoming: People love to point out that ~the Vulture wouldn’t have turned to crime if rich, white capitalist Tuna Stork hadn’t stolen his job~~ and… like… did no one watch Iron Man 2? Tony hasn’t been in charge of Stark Industries since 2010. Pepper Potts is in charge. If anyone has a grievance with Stark Industries taking over the clean up of dangerous alien tech they should take it up with her. Plus? It was an Executive Order. Meaning it came from the President. Unless Tony has gotten elected to the Oval Office in the past couple years, I don’t see how anything the Vulture did is remotely Tony’s fault. (Barring all that? Even if Tony had been the one to ~steal poor Toomes’ job~, in what universe does that give him the right to start black market arms dealing!?!?? Plenty of people lose their jobs every day without resorting to a life of crime and threatening to kill children)

Verdict?: Not Tony’s fault.

Hela from Thor: Ragnarok: Again, I already established, Tony must’ve been responsible for Odin’s shit-ass parenting skills. (sigh) Tony, Tony…

Verdict?: Not Tony’s fault.

Erik Killmonger from Black Panther: I don’t recall seeing Tony in any part of Killmonger’s origin story – and I paid close attention.

Verdict?: Not Tony’s fault.

Thanos from Avengers: Infinity War: …………………………………….

Verdict?: Not Tony’s fault.

That’s all I got. Yeah, it could be argued Tony is responsible for one (1) bad thing that has happened in the MCU. ONE (1). And, even then, he clearly shares blame on that front with two other MCU characters (Bruce and Wanda), and the Mind Stone was ultimately the culprit anyway. And 1 outta, what, 18? 19? That does not constitute “most of the problems.” I wouldn’t even say there’s a common thread between all these problems.

Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Avengers 4: Tony's gonna survive, and here’s why

I know many are fearful about Tony’s fate after Avengers: Infinity War, but despite my thinking Tony’s going to wield the Infinity Gauntlet, I still think he’s going to survive the events of Avengers 4.

Here’s yet another compilation post (because I can’t help myself). Under the read more.

Whenever I start getting scared that Tony will die in A4 I read your stuff about how he is going to live and I feel better. I have recently been freaking out more so I was wondering if you have any more information or theories that you haven't posted yet about why he is going to survive?? I really like your account by the way. It's a nice Tony support group❤️

I am so glad I’m helping alleviate some worries for fans. I’ll gladly keep posting uplifting and optimistic theories.

I’ll start with the biggest evidence Tony will live:

Gwyneth Paltrow said in an interview that Tony and Pepper get married and have a baby (and also slipped and called RDJ her “fake husband” at the premiere). Given Tony doesn’t have a wedding ring on in the Avengers 4 set photos, it’s safe to assume the wedding will be something that happens after the Thanos situation is taken care of. I mean… it just makes sense. I don’t see Tony, after what happened in Infinity War, being in the headspace to have a child in a world where Thanos is still alive. After Peter disintegrated in his arms. Tony won’t stop, he won’t sleep, he won’t rest, until the threat is over.

While RDJ has expressed interest in leaving the role, he has likened this move to “hanging up a jersey,” which is a euphemism for retirement – not dying. Barring that? I don’t think RDJ wants Tony to die. Tony is a redemption story that RDJ relates greatly to on a personal level. Why would he be okay with Tony’s story ending in death? After all Tony has been through? If RDJ has any pull at all, I think he’d do everything in his power to make this not happen. It’s worth noting that even back during Iron Man 3 days, RDJ was pushing for Pepper and Tony to settle down and have a kiddo – and lo and behold? (To go along with this? The only time RDJ said he wanted Tony to go out “in a blaze of glory” was during the Civil War press tour – and that was when there was no guarantee Gwyneth Paltrow would ever reprise her role as Pepper Potts again. It’s possible RDJ’s second choice for Tony’s end was a sacrificial bang, but his preference has always been the “family man” happy ending if that were possible.)

Arguably, of all the original Avengers, Tony’s arc is the one most set up for retirement. There’s an easy exit for him that doesn’t involve death – so why the hell not take it? Feige himself said that the characters’ endings won’t necessarily involve death: “People always will jump to [death]. That’s not necessarily what we’re talking about. I talk a lot, because I’m a big-ass nerd, about Star Trek: The Next Generation, “All Good Things.” That to me is one of the best series finales ever. That wasn’t about death. Picard went and played poker with the crew, something he should have done a long time ago, right?”

… That, to me, is a pretty good indicator that Tony will stick around.

Now as for other stuff? Like themes and foreshadowing and what not that suggest Tony will live?:

Pepper and Tony having a child fits the thematic that has been building for several films now. Tony has been growing into the role of a father since Iron Man 3. He discussed settling down and building Pepper a farm in Age of Ultron. Steve asked Tony if Pepper was pregnant in Civil War. Tony has explicitly expressed interest in having a child of his own in Infinity War. It seems like a natural conclusion to his story – and to derail that with a gut-wrenching death would be cruel. As dark as these Marvel movies get, they’re never cruel.

I also wrote about this earlier, but Pepper is Tony’s anchor. So long as Pepper is alive, I don’t see Tony drifting away. She won’t let him.

If I were to imagine a “coda” to the film, a few of the scenes would have to involve Tony: a wedding (hinted at several times in Infinity War) to lift the spirits (because seriously how better to end this journey but with a wedding?). Tony still has Cap’s shield, and it feels fitting if Tony were the one to hand it over to the heir to the Captain America mantle. Tony perhaps following in his father’s footsteps, shown telling his kid stories about Captain America. I mean… there’s a lot of material that could be mined once Thanos is gone involving Tony.

Most important? Tony needs a win. After the events of Age of Ultron, where Tony’s paranoia almost destroyed the world, Tony needs vindication where his mania, where his rabid drive to fix actually pays off and works. I’ve written a lot about how I think Tony will be the one to ultimately wields the Infinity Gauntlet (or at least he’ll be the key factor in making it work). It goes back to what Tony says in Iron Man 3 – and what Wanda said in Age of Ultron.

“That’s what I do. I fix stuff.” - Tony Stark, Iron Man 3

“He will do anything to make things right.” - Wanda Maximoff, Avengers: Age of Ultron

While that doesn’t mean Tony will survive (and it’s scary to think of a mortal like Tony being involved in anything that has been portrayed as dangerous and unstable like using Infinity Stones), I think there’s something to be said about how Thanos and Tony have been set up as parallels. Both are father figures (one dispassionate, one emotional) who have an overriding need to remedy potential disaster. Thanos’s madness has driven him to destroying half the world so that another Titan calamity doesn’t occur. Tony’s madness over the threat Thanos presented led him to nearly destroying Earth (and we will most likely see Tony’s madness again in Avengers 4). And, if we’re to believe the two are parallels? What did Thanos do after using the gauntlet? He got to “finally rest, and watch the sunrise on an ungrateful universe.” Given Tony has been characterized as a man who never rests, it would be fitting if Tony, after saving the universe, got to rest and see the world he saved bloom.

I mean, come on. Tony is “the futurist,” which means the future is going to need him – and he’ll be there to see it.

IronTitan - Fic Prompt #1

My friend has been bugging me for a week to put this fanfiction idea online here. My plan was to write it myself, but from a certain point on I don't get any further or I don't know how this story should end. Maybe there's someone more creative here ^__^

Spoiler !

Okay?

Okay.

After Thanos has received the time stone from Dr. Strange and left for Earth, Tony seals the wound with his nanotechnology. However, he overlooks that the tip of the dagger is still in the wound and through the foreign atmosphere on the planet and the bacteria and viruses unknown to his body, the wound infects very quickly and his immune system collapses.

After Thanos has wiped out half the universe, he returns to Titan (for whatever reason, I had no idea yet) and finds Tony breathing heavily and lying on the ground with a fever. Nebula went to get a first aid kit from the Milano. Thanos takes the almost unconscious (*) Merchant of Death to his farm and provides him with everything his knowledge of herbal medicine and human anatomy has to offer. (*or Tony is still awake and screams at Thanos in desperation, trying to attack him with his last strength reserves, which is of course fatal for the wound and his current state of health. You decide.)

Tony wakes up from unconsciousness in Thanos' bed on the farm and barely notices what is happening around him: Thanos tries to remove the dagger tip, treats the wound, sews it up, infuses Tony with water and food, changes his clothes, washes him (idk stop yelling at me). I also had the idea that Thanos plants herbs in his garden and also some that are antiseptic and have the effect of promoting wound healing and so on. In delirium Tony talks to Peter or Strange, maybe also Steve and believes he is still with the Avengers or shortly before the fight in Siberia (which makes him suffer even more), which is interesting for Thanos he gets to know something more about his little merchant of death. Maybe Tony will have some clear, waking moments in between. His memories of Strange's last words, the death of Peter, the fight with Thanos. And that he failed.

I also wanted to write a scene where Tony jumps from Thanos' bed, both bang back on the floor and Tony punches the Titan over and over again. He doesn't care that he only has his bare hands, is injured and alone. Thanos don't mind the blows, because Tony is still very weak and in the end the stitches of his wound burst open again and he has to give up. Thanos lifts him back into bed and treats the wound again. He's still gentle and calm.

A-a-a-a-and that's it yh

But I believe Tony will continue to fight and not surrender to Thanos no matter what else comes ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I have this headcannon that the Infinitystones only give power and self-healing powers to their owner but can not be transferred to other living beings (if it is anyway, okay, cool).

I like such stories where the hero is in the hand of his arch-enemy, no matter if he is chained in the darkest cell, seriously wounded or suffocated by a fever, crawling on the floor or tied up in bed so yeah

I would be happy if someone would like to write a ff or use parts of it. But please give credits ^__^

Marvel Moodboard - IronTitan + Farm

marvel moodboard - IronTitan + Farm

💁🏻 Based on the idea that Thanos takes Tony to live on a farm after the battle (idek. this wasn’t a ship I expected to be on)

🌈 His wound is healing up nicely, and Thanos is tending to the garden. “You should be in bed.” Thanos says, watching him. Tony catches the way his eyes linger on his on the exposed skin of his chestneck, to the oversized shirt that barely covers anything. “Yeah, well. Sorry to disappoint you.” Tony shrugs. Taking a step onto the porch, he stops when he sees Thanos coming towards him. “I haven’t gotten you shoes.” The Titan says, reaching over to caress him. “I don’t mind.” He tries to say, only to be swallowed in a yelp when Thanos picks him up in his arms and carries him the rest of the way into the garden. “Let me, hm?” Thanos smiles. Tony rolls his eyes. “Fine.“

Stephen McFeely: “That’s the most interesting part of the third act. That Steve – and Natasha but we don’t talk about that – watched that video in Winter Soldier. They know categorically that HYDRA killed [the Starks]. Never told Tony. So when Tony asks him, ‘Rogers, did you know?’ and [Steve] says, ‘Yes,’ it’s maybe the worst thing Steve’s ever done. It’s certainly the most self-involved. [He was] copping to his one big mistake.” (x)

“Big man in a suit of armour. Take that off, what are you?”

“Big Man In A Suit Of Armour. Take That Off, What Are You?”

Tony Stark’s Iron Man suits allow him to level up to his enemies and be equally matched in power, strength, durability, endurance… He was never injected with a super-soldier serum and given super-human abilities like Steve Rogers. He was never bitten by a radioactive spider like Peter Parker. He doesn’t have any special skill-sets, acquired by years and years of professional, super-secret spy training, like Black Widow or Hawkeye. He doesn’t even have a huge, green, rage monster alter-ego like Bruce Banner.

Nothing.  It’s his armour that gives him all of his super-powered abilities. His armour is the only thing that offers him any protection in battle. Beneath the suit, he’s just a regular human being. A civilian who made a conscious choice to don that armour ten years ago, to fight evil.  And here he is, ten years later, fighting one-on-one against the most powerful being in the universe.

“Big Man In A Suit Of Armour. Take That Off, What Are You?”

With every punch,

image

Every hit,

“Big Man In A Suit Of Armour. Take That Off, What Are You?”

Every devastating blow dealt by Thanos, Tony’s armour is gradually ripped apart, exposing the vulnerable human flesh and bone hidden underneath.

“Big Man In A Suit Of Armour. Take That Off, What Are You?”

Yet, he still fights.

“Big Man In A Suit Of Armour. Take That Off, What Are You?”

The one thing that offers his human body any protection, destroyed. But he’s not backing down. He keeps on fighting. He keeps on pushing himself. He knows it’s futile. Knows he is hopelessly outmatched in hand-to-hand physical combat against a Mad Titan with the power of four Infinity Stones. But he doesn’t stop.

Even while fully exposed and vulnerable, Tony continues to fight. He fights with courage. With bravery. With determination. With desperation. With fear.

“Big Man In A Suit Of Armour. Take That Off, What Are You?”

He fights with his whole heart.

“Big Man In A Suit Of Armour. Take That Off, What Are You?”

He fights until he physically cannot fight anymore.

“Big Man In A Suit Of Armour. Take That Off, What Are You?”

When Tony takes off that armour, or, in this case, is stripped of it, he will still fight with everything in him. He will continue to fight to the very end.

“Big Man In A Suit Of Armour. Take That Off, What Are You?”

Tony Stark is Iron Man, and he is just as much of a hero without the armour as he is with it.

Speed me towards Death cause I think she’d go for me They say Time is the cure — I can’t wait, he’s too slow for me. I’ve tried all the rest, now I want to try the best I don’t want to die slowly, I don’t want to decay I want to be chosen, I want to be made I don’t want to die lonely and weary of life — I will not be earth-bound, I’m gonna fly So speed me towards death, you know I want her to taste me My senses are dead - I want her to awaken me I’ve realized that this world at its best is just a prelude to the next And it’s not what I wanna hear. honestly i’m living for how fucking Badass™️ tony stark was in infinity war

 - the black order rock up to new york with their flying donut and tony just fucking,,, Crosses His Arms, Completely Unimpressed™️   - literally says “get lost squidward” to ebony maw - suits up in the Bleeding Edge armour like a Fucking Boss™️

- punches cull obsidian in the fucking face

- materialises Big Ass Weapons out of fucking nowhere like magic with his nanotech

- literally turns into a fucking rocket to chase after his arachnid son who got yeeted into space on the flying donut trying to save the wizard

- takes One Look at the interior of the q-ship and immediately knows how it works and how to steer it

- was a Sassy Lil Shit™️

- materialises a Big Ass Cannon Blaster and threatens to blast drax’s face off if star lord even dared to hurt his arachnid son

- drops a big ass,,, thing,,, on thanos when the grape fuck first rocked up to titan

- gets a whole ass moon thrown at him and threatens to lose his shit if the lil purple bitch even dared to throw another one at him

- takes on thanos one-on-one after the other heroes got their asses handed to them

- actually manages to get a few good hits in on thanos (with human technology he built himself)

- withstood the fucking strength of the power stone with a shield he conjured from his nanotech (which is, again, human technology tony built)

- literally cuts the purple bitch  (the only mortal to ever make thanos B L E E D)

- desperately continues to fight thanos in hand-to-hand combat despite the fact that half his armour was fucking obliterated by the mad titan after he repeatedly decked tony in the head and blasted him at close range with the power stone

- literally fucking  b l o c k s  a backhanded swing from thanos’ gauntlet with his BARE FUCKING ARMS after thanos fucking obliterated most of his suit (meaning, he no longer had the added superhuman strength the armour usually gives him,, meaNING,,, that was all tony’s Normal Human Strength which blocked that attack)

- attempts to punch thanos,, fully aware that he is just a Little Human squaring up with a mad titan 2x his fucking height and 4x his size (and, again, he was completely vulnerable and exposed because half his armour was fucking shredded at this point) - in a last-ditch desperate attempt (fully aware that it’ll be completely futile) forms a shiv with whats left of his armour and tries to stab thanos only to get stabbed with it instead but A plus for his efforts

- heals his ~fatal~ stab wound (he literally coughed up blood after he got stabbed) with his special nanotech spray  - i mean ???

-what a fucking Badass ???

NO ONE IS REALLY ACKNOWLEDGING TONY’S FACE WHEN HE TURNS AROUND TO HEAR PETER SAYING HE DOESN’T FEEL GOOD. PURE DREAD. I’M PISSED OFF. IT NEEDS ACKNOWLEDGMENT LIKE FUCKING NO TOMORROW.

okay but when i first watched this scene, i kinda wondered why tony only said 2 words. like “you’re alright” that’s it. even after he clung to him and started to cry tony didn’t say a word.

but then we learned that tom improvised that scene. So that was probably RDJ’s reaction. I don’t think he was expecting Tom to start crying to fall into his arms like that. Hearing him like that probably really fucked up RDj even if they were only filming. So that look on his face was probably RDJ dreading what Tom was about to do. Because he was going to make it incredibly painful.
