Beast ranatsu has a lot of angst, but Ranpo slowly gains Atsushi's trust and Atsushi Ranpo's. Forehead bumps are the most common form of affection they give each other, since Atsushi has a huge touch aversion

akutagawa sleeps like the dead. literally. on his back, hands crossed over his chest, not moving a single inch.

on the other hand, atsushi literally sprawls across the entire bed. he turns and accidentally slaps aku in the face with his arm. he yowls and chuffs and growls in his sleep.

it's horrible. neither of them get any sleep the first few days they start living together

catsushi head butting and cuddling with everyone in the ada and dazai just gets more and more jealous because every time he tries to sit with him or pet his ears they disappear because of no longer human

The agency is on a mission and don't notice that Atsushi stopped walking to stare down an alley with his ears and tail out and slowly wagging. He ends up stalking a raccoon and pouncing in it. They're all disgusted when he brings it to them and tries to give it to Dazai, who's just amused by catsushi.

I think we don't lean into atsushi being a big cat enough.

By which I mean that he should leave dead mice by the beds of the Ada members. (and akutagawa's)

okay since obviously ive gotten to into catifying atsushi i forgot he was a tiger - as u guys pointed out

this is how a beach episode would ACTUALLY play out in my head - kunikida, dazai, and atsushi focus

kunikida: are you not gonna go swimming dazai?

dazai: nope! i think today im just going to relax in the sand! maybe i'll try and drown myself later tho... what about you?

kunikida: im not swimming either

dazai: awww why not

kunikida: for some reason i dont feel safe getting in the ocean w/ u here

dazai, snickering: aww~ how could you say that~ im so hurt

atsushi, in the background, trying to secretly run away:

dazai: aww atsushi-kun why are you sneaking away

atsushi, startled: me? running away? haha... no i wouldn't

kunikida: atsushi, is everything all right? don't tell me you've decided to not participate in a company wide vacation?

atsushi: no! it's not that

dazai: you cant swim? but you fish me out all the time

atsushi: i know how to swim! i just... i don't really like water

dazai: is it becuz you're a cat?

kunikida and atsushi: he's/im a tiger

kunikida: atsushi don't tigers usually like water

atsushi: well... im not really a tiger... it's just my ability

kunikida: is it becuz dazai's here?he is a rather unsafe person to be near when you're also near wtaer

dazai: how cruel~ atsushi-kun i pinky promise i wont drown you~

atsushi:

atsushi, shyly: you really promise?

dazai, who was just joking: ?????????

kunikida, also flabbergasted: ?????????? did you think one of us would-

atsushi: no! i mean obviously not haha... but you promise...?

dazai:

kunikida:

dazai: of course! we promise not to drown you

kunikida: and to get you out of the water if you're in trouble

atsushi: oh... but didn't you not want to swim

kunikida dazai, professional dgaslighters: that never happened

atsushi: ...oh okay... then i think i'll try to swim... you'll be there?

dazai and kunikida: of course

*later*

dazai: atsushi-kun you really...

kunikida: atsushi, please, it's been 7 hours come back out

atsushi, having the time of his life, eyes sparkling, tail wagging: five more minutes!!

kunikida: you said that last time too...

dazai: atsushi-kun sure likes water

kunikida, fixing his glasses: we have to just grab him and run off quickly

dazai: ooh~ kunikida wants to kidnap someone~? how despciable

kunikida: its not kidnapping its for his own good

dazai: if that helps you sleep at night :3

u know how cats r usually very light sleepers???

atsushi being a light sleeper and every morning when akutagawa wakes up atsushi showers him with affection

akutagawa doesn't really think much of it

until one day he wakes up and notices the .5 seconds it takes atsushi to notice he's awake, he's staring at him teary eyed - becuz sometimes the reason cats r so affectionate in the morning is becuz cats think humans r cats too and get worried why u wont wake up

or so ive heard

anyway atsushi gets super worried becuz aku is a little bit of a deeper sleeper than him

fic where dazai (and ranpo but he's ranpo) notices that anytime someone says words like "beast" "monster" "demon" etc atsushi almost always stiffens - not like he's scared but as if he's physically fighting back the urge to respond as he'd been called

featuring atsushi trying to force himself to stop associating himself with the words the people in the orphanage called him

akutagawa should be there to be atsushi's hot emotional support but thats just my opinion btw

atsushi doesnt like storms becuz all alone in the cage the loud noises scared him but its okay now becuz dazai and ranpo noticed so dazai holds his hand when its storming so the loud noises arent as loud and ranpo gives him candy and yosano bought him noise cancelling headphones and kunikida makes him hot chocolate and fukuzawa gives him a weighted blanket and junichiro calls him every time it says its gonna storm to let him know and kyouka sits by his side so he knows he's not in the cage and akutagawa tried to fight the sky (he was a little tipsy when he first learned)

touch starved atsushi who doesn't know how to ask for affection but has learned the following:

if he falls asleep on his desk near the end of his shift, kunikida will carry him back to his dorm (so now he pretends to fall asleep at least twice every week)

if he accidentally loses control of his ability, dazai will ruffle his hair to nullify it (so he starts controlling it enough to "accidentally" bring out random tiger features)

if he gets even a small bruise and yosano knows, she'll check it out and then pat his back after bandaging it (so he becomes more clumsy)

if he sits a little close to naomi during long boring meetings, she'll rest her head against his shoulder (so he makes sure to "accidentally" end up between her and juni or on her other side every time)

if he accidentally runs into president fukuzawa, the president will steady him by placing a hand on his shoulder (so he makes sure to almost bump into him at least once a week)

if he and kyouka are walking around in busy streets, kyouka will hold on to his wrist or hand or something to make sure that they dont go separated (so he gains an interest in all crowded shopping areas)

if he gives kenji a gift, kenji will thank him with a hug (kenji is very confused but pleased by his growing collection of random knick knacks given to him by atsushi)

if he says something funny, junichiro will chuckle and bump their shoulders (so he starts trying to be purposefully funny)

weirdly enough though... ranpo doesn't have a pattern but still he pops up awkwardly next to atsushi and bumps their shoulders or pats his back or something similar even though he isn't usually touchy... hmmm....

Hc that atsushi's pupils dilate like a cats when he's happy or excited

Or when he's fighting his eyes narrow into little slits and he hisses

And when he's eating or looking at akutagawa his eyes get really big

Fukuzawa: Atsushi, I'm sorry

Atsushi: huffs, looks away

Junichiro: What's up with Atsushi?

Ranpo: A stray cat gave the President a fish.

Junichiro: wince And he accepted it?

Ranpo: Yup, Atsushi caught him a deer too but now he's not getting any.

Atsushi: Maybe those other cats can get you a deer, hmph.

anon....youve read my mind. i wanted to make a post about this so bad and youve given me reason to...i owe you my life. heads up though my headcanons are so inconsistent (for example i have like 10 versions of Akutagawa living in my brain) so these are just the ones i like the most atm :)))

akutagawa

- he's the best for this because is as healthy as a victorian child (aka not at all). suffering from some kind of ailment at least once a month if he's lucky. worst immune system ever.

- i saw this on another post but i love the idea of him throwing up and then pretending nothing happened. higuchi is like sir????? and he's like. "anyway"

- if he's Really sick though he'll pass out from the exertion of throwing up. like fevers give him the worst body aches ever and he can barely move it's a bad combo. he is bedridden for days against his will. flus knock him tf out

- fainting all the time in general. vasovagal syncope for sure

- he's very unwilling to accept help unless he's at the point where he can't stand up. at that point he'll only accept help from people he's close to (mostly gin). and when it's bad enough, he's scared to sleep alone if he's incapacitated

- fevers also give him horrible nightmares and he has trouble resting well when he's sick because of them

- he is just miserable and makes me sad i just need someone to hold him

dazai

- i feel like dazai was never Allowed to be sick in the past and doesn’t give in unless he's forced to (passing this onto akutagawa of course). chuuya breaks him out of this a bit.

- not used to people taking care of him at all, sort of weirded out by it sometimes. doesn't understand the need for worry

- gets the worst migraines ever and vomits when they gets bad but pretends they're not a big deal

- despite this he is the biggest user of "my tummy hurts". drives kunikida up the wall

- very much the type to pretend to be sick to get out of doing work when he's feeling lazy so kunikida is always suspicious

- kunikida doesn't let him own any medicine for obvious reasons so dazai always goes whining to him when he doesn't feel good

- if he's actually not doing well he'll get weirdly quiet

- but he will always announce before he throws up. most of them can already tell regardless because he gets very drooly

atsushi

- is extremely emetophobic. 100% does not care about other people throwing up but if it's him he will pass out from hyperventilating. probably from some trauma he refuses to address. kunikida is working on it 🙏 (overworked mother fr)

- atsushi has absolutely no concept of resting when ill. he thinks that a fever or cold just makes him work slower. kunikida tells him to lie down and he's like?? why??

- but he does give in quickly and lets people take care of him 💔 he likes being taken care of but won't admit it 💔

- fevered atsushi is very snuggly hes like a cat. he sleeps in a ball when he doesn't feel good

- fevered atsushi is also Too affectionate. akutagawa taking his temperature and atsushi hits him w the "youre really pretty" unprompted

- akutagawa lets him get away with it because atsushi tends to get really down when he's sick if he's not distracted

chuuya

- definitely camps in the bathroom when he's sick and wants absolutely no one to see him (dazai is a rare exception to this rule). dazai takes photos to mess with him but it Really stresses him out

- he needs someone to hold his hair back every time or else he will get vomit in his gorgeous gorgeous hair

- he takes his health very seriously and will not work if he's ill no matter what. he's not sick often but when he is, it's bad

- tends to make himself sick with stress and needs others to tell him to dial it back when he's overworking himself

- he is, however, horribly hung over every other week. like throwing up all day. always calls dazai and begs him for help because he feels awful and doesn't wanna do anything

-very noisy. moaning and groaning from the pain/being uncomfortable. driving dazai up the wall

- sleeps for a very long time when he's sick, like a concerning amount. dazai has to wake him up when he starts to get borderline worried because this man sleeps like a rock

Platonic caretaking is everuthing 2 me especially w the ada + atsushi. He probably gets really anxious when he gets sick which makes it worse, and hes worried theyll b ngry with him and just. Cannot comprehend someone being worried for his wellbeing 🥺

anon this is one of my favorite things 😭 i truly love sick and anxious Atsushi who truly can't comprehend others worrying over him...insisting he's fine and he'll take care of himself to avoid getting in the way of others but making himself feel worse with how anxious the situation makes him. Kunikida pretty much forcing him to rest because he can see how much damage the anxiety is doing...I love emetophobic Atsushi who throws up in front of the others despite doing everything he can to avoid it and working himself up about everyone's reactions so much that he passes out. waking up in the infirmary to Dazai telling him to not even think about getting up because Kunikida will run him over with his car lol. Atsushi feeling a little more secure with just one person there instead of the whole agency reassuring him. Dazai quietly telling Kunikida they need to handle the situation more carefully next time 💔

thank you so much!! and no worries your english is great!! I'm writing a fevered atsushi sickfic for Sicktember under the "Persistent Fever" prompt that I'm very much enjoying writing so far hehe...

- atsushi definitely has a lot of problems speaking up when he doesn't feel well or just recognizing that he need to slow down because of how he grew up. he has some pretty serious anxiety so when he doesn't feel good he either gets all in his head about or he doesn't realize it

- he gets low grade fevers often when he gets overly stressed out/exhausted/overworking

- kyoka and lucy have learned to keep an eye on him while he's working because he tends not to realize when he has a fever until it gets really bad

- kyoka is very sweet about making sure he looks after himself and lucy scolds the ever loving shit out of him

- sometimes they don't notice in time and he passes out :( they have to take him to the infirmary and keep a good eye on him to make sure he rests

- he's very prone to hallucinations and nightmares when he has high fevers 🥺 he'll turn over in his sleep, shake and breathe heavy and whimper, sweat through the sheets, and wake up sobbing and desperate for comfort

- atsushi is terrified of needles so they have to be sneaky when yosano needs to give him injections. dazai is a pro at distracting him but sometimes atsushi is just so out of it that he doesn't notice. sometimes his fever is so high that he's completely delusional and becomes terrified of yosano💔 he's accidentally hurt her in the past with his ability and they've learned to keep dazai handy to prevent that

- kyoka has to take him home when he's really not doing well because he's sensitive to the antiseptic smell in the infirmary and it makes him very nauseous, and he's very emetophobic so they try to avoid that as much as possible

- everyone in the ADA looks after him very well and sometimes he cries and wonders what he did to deserve their love and care 😭

sskk living together but aku has a cat so whenever he goes "pspsps" to the cat while hes laying on the couch he just hears thudding and has five seconds to move before atsushi jumps onto him Cat: Akutagawa: Akutagawa: Pspsps- ah shit. *insert atsushi, going 40 mph, before tackling akutagawa*

everytime chuuya's ferret sees atsushi, it gets scared; chuuya reassures atsushi that its probably just becuz he's not used to him or maybe becuz atsushi's ability is a tiger and its confusing the ferret but when chuuya isnt looking atsushi makes sure to stare down the ferret so it Knows that it once was atsushi's afternoon snack.

ada going to zoo but oop they have to put atsushi on a child leash so his predator instincts dont take over

Bridges Burned Part I

One of the Headmaster’s favorite things to say about Atsushi was that he destroyed everything he touched.

It wasn’t one of his lessons, exactly; he never applied it to Atsushi’s mind with more than brief, dismissive words, never carved it into Atsushi’s back with belt or stick. "You destroy everything, boy,“ he would simply say. And he would look at him with profound disgust and leave.

So Atsushi figured that this was one rule he could circumvent with time. He broke breakable things, yes, because his hands shook often; he stepped over fragilities, indeed, in his attempts to cower and flee; but these were not things he attributed to himself as much as to the Headmaster, who was the source of the flight and who was the source of the shakes.

Atsushi thought: Once I am out of here, I won’t shake anymore.

Summer dragged over Yokohama like a beast’s hot breath, sweltering from mid-morning to late at night, making the pavement simmer. It seemed to turn the streets liquid and the day light to fog; Atsushi could not walk outside without feeling like he had stepped into a cloud, if clouds were made of sticky sweat. Sharing a dorm with Kyouka meant that whatever coolness they could afford by the way of electric fans had to be shared as well, and often the night found Atsushi breathing loudly in the open closet where he slept, trying and failing to put his overheated mind to sleep.

If Kyouka suffered the same, she didn’t say anything. She was still as a statue as soon as she lay down at night, but Atsushi didn’t know if it meant that she slept. She always kept her back turned to him.

the ada confused as hell, finally going to ranpo like "is atsushi dying???"

and ranpo is like "isn't it obvious"

and the ada is like "no" unaware that atsushi is scratching/sharpening his nails at the entrance

and ranpo is like "its the time of year we get a lot of cats in the neighborhood. he's marking his territory"

fukuzawa is delighted at being shown affection by his cat son but heartbroken that his cat son is trying to make sure no other cat comes

everyone else is mostly just amused

Silly bsd stuff i would totally write about if i had the ability to put two sentences together:

Ada having a pet fish and having to keep atsushi away

Kenji bringing a cow in to the office and sharing with atsushi as everyone watches in horror

Atsushi playing with dazais bandages after they loosen up on his wrists

Kenji and atsushi making popcorn but instead of using a lid they try to catch the pieces with their mouth jumping around like crazy

Dazai being forced to do his own work coz atsushi started eating his papers

Atsushi knocking kunikidas journal off the table out of feline instinct and kunikida going off on dazai when he cant find it

Fukuzawa and atsushi going on walks together because he wants to feed cats and atsushi attracts them

Atsushi pulling akutagawa aside to confirm if goth people really do wear colorful socks under their boots

Atsushi and akutagawa having tea taste tests once in a while

Atsushi encouraging everyone to drink ceylon tea instead of coffee coz he's extra sensitive to coffe breath thanks to his ability

Dazai telling atsushi that naomi is an ability to fuck with him and atsushi playing along even though he can hear her heartbeat

Atsushi doing dazais paperwork on the days he smells soil on him knowing he was visiting oda

Lucy mostly knowing how to make sweet drinks because she knows atsushi likes them most

Atsushi making sushi for kyouka often after junichiro taught him how to roll a joint and he improvised

Chuuya thinking dazais kid is a fucking weirdo for walking around with the strangest contact lenses casually
