but whenever he does it to akutagawa he gets all huffy and puffy bc he thinks atsushi is trying to insult him or smth

i like to think atsushi definitely still has cat-like behaviour when he’s in human form.

• Back at the orphanage it was rare for Atsushi to be shown any sort of physical affection, and he was regularly found hiding in dark corners or inside his closet to avoid the abusive staff members. It’s only when he gets to the Agency that he starts sleeping in an actual bed – and a comfortable one at that!! For the first few weekends when Atsushi gets some time off, he’ll just roll up under his covers of his futon and stay there for days. • When he has nightmares or there are times where he is reminded of his past, Atsushi pulls his blankets around his body and cocoons himself in the warmth they offer, the comfort of the soft sheets reminding him that that isn’t his life anymore and he’s allowed to feel warm and safe. • When he’s sick he’ll walk around the house wrapped in a huge fluffy duvet and just rest on the sofa all day until he feels well enough to work again. • Cuddling Atsushi under the blankets would be 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻• He’s like a human radiator oh my god can you imagine the purring • LET THIS BOY FEEL LoVE DAmn iT

End Of The Famine

The concept of sleeping through the night is as foreign to Atsushi as that of countries he’s never visited. The nightmares only came after he left the orphanage, but even then, he slept bit by bit, waking up at every footstep he heard, every rattling of a chain. Atsushi has never fallen asleep at sunset and woken up at sunrise. Fear used to keep awake; the absence of it now knots so tightly in his stomach that the difference is infinitesimal.

Atsushi learned as a child to wake up silently. He does so now, choked out of air, his fist already pressed against his mouth so that no sound will escape. He glances to his side, where Kyouka sleeps like the dead, and turns his back on her. Only then does he breathe.

Only then does he cry.

Ya know, Atsushi probably really struggles with physical affection. There’s probably a very few number of people who can touch him, and even then he needs to see it coming. I find it hard to believe that, as compassionate and caring as my little baby is, he is just over all of the physical and mental abuse he suffered. And while he makes connections quickly, it probably takes the members of the ADA months to get to a place where they can touch him without him panicking and flinching.

headcanons? about bsd? if so i have a headcanon that atsushi tends to do things that he was forced to do at the orphanage subconsciously like maybe if he drops something he would immediately look around and cover himself from getting hit etc etc

Yes, that’s it. You can send me ideas about BSD and I’ll write ideas about it. I’ve wanted to do it since a long time but I was too anxious to ask. I hope you find it interesting. (I apologize in advance if there are mistakes)

Kyouka : 

The first time she stayed at Atsushi’s appartment, it can be seen she was the one to make breakfast. However, Atsushi has been raised thinking he had to be the one to take do the chores. From here, a very ridiculous competition started. Atsushi would do his best to wake up as soon as possible to prepare breakfast only for Kyouka to wake even earlier the next day. Kunikida was the one to stop them after one week when he saw how tired the both of them were. He created a whole planning about who had to do what and when they had to do it. 

Also, since tofu is quite cheap, it was one of the main meal at the orphanage (when they were fed) so Atsushi knows exactly how to cook it. Kyouka didn’t stop pouting for days when she noticed Atsushi was better at preparing it than her. However, she stopped quickly and instead ordered him to cook it for her. This is how Atsushi stopped seeing cooking as a bad part of his past and started seeing as a way to please his little sister  friend.

Junichirou and Naomi : 

They both are very tactile people. Naomi likes hugging every members of the agency and Junichirou - even if he’s not at the same level as his sister - likes physical contact to congratulate his friends or to greet them. 

The first time the young woman tries to hug Atsushi, the young man jumps meters away from her. Just like the feline which represents him. 

When Junichirou tries to high five, he looks at him as if Tanizaki is going to slap him. His whole body tenses, waiting for a punch. 

After this, they both are careful with how they interact with him. They invite him to initiate contacts without downright forcing him. They watch carefully and wait for him to be relaxed to try anything. 

Only when the siblings escape a life-or-death  situation does Atsushi answer to their offers. It’s nothing big  or amazing, he just catches sweater and refuses to let it go. 

It’s a start. 

Kunikida : 

Everyone in the agency knows Kunikida is an early riser. He’s always the first one to arrive at the agency. The first one to prepare for work. The first one to finish his job. 

One day, he and Atsushi have to leave Yokohama to work on a case for the military and end up sharing a room. 

That’s when the man discovers how Atsushi doesn’t really sleep. It’s more like cat-napping. He dozes off for a few minutes and startles  seconds after. 

The morning after, Atsushi is already ready for their investigation, totally dressed. It’s especially concerning since Kunikida didn’t even hear him do it. 

It becomes obvious the boy doesn’t really sleep per se. 

From here, Kunikida is careful to his subordinate’s sleeping pattern. He watches for when Atsushi will be about to collapse because of exhaustion and is always ready to collapse. He asks Fukuzawa if they can create a spot where he can rest if everything becomes too much (Shut up, Dazai ! It is not favoritism ! ). 

Dazai :

No matter to who you ask, they will always give you the same answer : Dazai isn’t the spokesman for mental health. He spent more of his youth torturing and killing people, hurting his subordinates and bathing in the darkness. 

He’s not naive enough to expect himself to totally change but he can try.

Odasaku didn’t transform him, he only made him discover new possibilites. Possibilites he had ignored his whole life before : he could be a good person. 

So when he had met Atsushi, he had quickly understood the orphan was the perfect opportunity to prove Odasaku was right.

Dazai can’t change Atsushi, he can’t alleviate his loneliness or give him physical comfort. He’s just not good at it. However, pissing people off, this he can do. 

Atsushi is not good at expressing his feelings. He hides them and don’t let anyone see his anger or his sorrow. Most of the times, he only offers soft smile as if he doesn’t want anyone to see his negative pulsions. It just won’t do, Dazai concludes. So he starts ploting. 

Some of Atsushi’s belongings start disappearing, Dazai steals his food everytime he lets his guard down. To summarize it : he finds every sore points and play with them. It’s only when Atsushi throws a pile of papers to his face that Dazai allows himself to smile truthfully. 

This bright boy will be alright. 

His nose is probably broken though. 

Once again, I apologize for any grammar mistakes I didn’t pay as much attention to it as I usually do. Sorry.

Onto season 2 for Bungo Stray Dogs and with the comparisons between Kyoko’s and Atsushi’s powers being inherently combat based but also Atsushi just being Not The Same, I’m imagining Atsushi transformed and Just Being A Cat rather than a terror at the orphanage.

Destroying everything? Was using the wall as a scratching post. Eating all the food in the kitchen? He was hungry (and had to rip the fridge door off to get to the meat). Knocking everything over Because It Was There. Scratching stuff up to mark territory. Chasing after people? Was wanting to demand pets and scentmarking.

Little vampire Fausto is sometimes reprimanded by college students when he goes out at night in his black vampire cape… and here’s why!

atsushi on his way to go wake up every single person he knows and ask if theyre mad at him becuz he had a dream they were

almost the 27th. almost time for red in tooth & claw to update. the hype is real.

I am a huge supporter of Atsushi with cat traits but I also think that he shouldn't just mrrph? if someone wakes him up or calls his attention after zoning out for a long time and meow at cats. However he should also have eyes that reflect light giving Kouyka a fucking heart attack when she was using her phone's flashlight to get back to bed and just saw two E Y E S looking at her from in the darkness (he was getting water). On full moons if he doesn't expend a lot of energy, I think that he gets a surge of energy and adrenaline. He's used to spending it locked in a cage so he doesn't know to let out the adrenaline and instead lets it build up until its painful and just deals with it. I have a lot of thoughts about this ok? I will continue

akutagawa: i do not know jinko. i know nothing about him. I do not even know how when he laughs too much he has to lean against something. or that his eyes have a little bit of orange, where the yellow and purple meet. I do not know about his mole on the bottom of his neck. nor do i know that he drinks his coffee really sweet. i do not know that he clips his nails short to not scratch anyone but really likes the illusion guy's sister's longer nails and wishes he could grow his own out a little. i do not know that he likes being outside in various weathers to get to experience them. i do not know ANYTHING about that damned jinko and if you DARE imply that i do again i WILL slit your throat

i like to think that Atsushi can faintly smell people coming,

he can smell some green tea whenever Kyoka walks by, the sickly sweet candy smell Ranpo reeks of whenever he pops out of nowhere, and sometimes even a faint smell of white lillies of Dazai every now and then

with that being said, he can easily recognise smells he deems safe (safe being the agency) and smells that make him more alert, so he doesn't get jumpscared when an enemy suprises him, but could jump 40ft into the air if Kenji walks up behind him

let the tiger also be a part of the agency dammit

Finale kinda crazy. Ending even crazier. Was that actually him. Also. Atsushi's fangs were beautiful. I wish we got more Atsushi with tiger traits. I literally die of happiness every time I read a fic where he chuffs, or scents, or lays in sunbeams. The mental image of him getting hugged by Dazai or Kunikida and just getting so happy that he lets out a breathy chuff is just SO CUTE. Don't even get me started on Atsushi kneading. Don't even get me started on Atsushi expressing his affection like a tiger w/ the ADA. Atsushi and ADA platonic love is actually amazing.

Tiger instincts in not tiger body + Atsushi being sassy is just.... peak fiction. My favorite thing to read. Red in Tooth & Claw on ao3 is LITERALLY THIS and the best fic in existence. When it updates every 7 days it literally makes my week. I love it so much. I love Atsushi so much...

ik this isn't canon at all but I do think it would be a beautiful thing if Byakko turned out to be a weretiger cub. What if Byakko is just the child inside Atsushi. The child who is used to pain and violence and lashes out. The child who wants to protect Atsushi by healing him, killing chickens so he doesn't starve, hurting people who hurt him. What if Atsushi's reconciliation with Byakko is him accepting the childhood he had and the child that is still inside him and screaming to be loved. What if we get to watch Byakko become less violent, and turn into what a real child or cub should be like- wanting to play, wanting affection. What if through Byakko, we get to see Atsushi's inner child healing a little.

No thoughts, just Atsushi having tiger instincts. Atsushi having a special pillow he hides in his futon just for kneading. He hides the pillow because he was shamed for his tiger instincts at the orphanage, but as he opens up to the ADA more, different members get to see his more suppressed instincts (they think its the cutest thing ever). Dazai is the first to discover the pillow and Atsushi gets super scared before Dazai reassures him that its okay and that he thinks its adorable. This is the first time Atsushi has ever been allowed to express his tiger instincts, and in happiness, he rubs his cheek against Dazai. Dazai is shocked and Atsushi is too after disengaging with the cheek rub but Dazai quickly regains his composure and hugs Atsushi back, while rubbing his cheek. Atsushi is incredibly overjoyed about Dazai (his family...!!) scenting him and expressing his love for Atsushi that he starts chuffing too. Dazai screams
