Fujimoto has perfected creating the most authentically selfish characters. I feel in many stories characters' selfishness are justified through the narrative. That they have suffered through something so significant they deserve to be selfish. I'm not saying I disagree with that sentiment, selfishness is necessary for self preservation at times. But what Fujimoto does is very different.

His characters are selfish consistently. They want to be the best, make the best movies, be good, and be known for being good. Their selfishness is not justified and it feels awkward and cringy. They often do awful things and think about it hundreds of times until finally their thoughts overlap in such a way they have convinced themselves they did the right thing. Sometimes, they never had to convince themselves.

Denji wants a normal life, but he wants fame! He wants tons of girlfriends, but he wants to be loved unconditionally! Asa wants to save Denji, but she's really thinking about how good she'll look saving him! She sits in front of a TV giggling about how awesome she looks killing a giant devil and being renowned for it. Fujino scared that Kyomoto will become a better artist than them, actively attempts to trap Kyomoto with them and keep Kyomoto from going to art school.

There is no justice in their actions. They have no right to feel the things they do, do the things they do, yet they feel these selfish wants with all their might. They are children sure, but the adults have the same selfishness twisted in more wicked ways, backed up by legalities and, what they presume to be, rational thought. Justifying selfishness is what an adult does. Being selfish is what a child does. And being selfish should not be demonized, nor should it be justified.

Selfishness is part of the heart. It is part of us, and no matter what we do, we will act with selfish precision.

Tips for Writing a Difficult Scene

Every writer inevitably gets to that scene that just doesn't want to work. It doesn't flow, no matter how hard you try. Well, here are some things to try to get out of that rut:

1. Change the weather

I know this doesn't sound like it'll make much of a difference, but trust me when I say it does.

Every single time I've tried this, it worked and the scene flowed magically.

2. Change the POV

If your book has multiple POV characters, it might be a good idea to switch the scene to another character's perspective.

9/10 times, this will make the scene flow better.

3. Start the scene earlier/later

Oftentimes, a scene just doesn't work because you're not starting in the right place.

Perhaps you're starting too late and giving too little context. Perhaps some description or character introspection is needed before you dive in.

Alternatively, you may be taking too long to get to the actual point of the scene. Would it help to dive straight into the action without much ado?

4. Write only the dialogue

If your scene involves dialogue, it can help immensely to write only the spoken words the first time round.

It's even better if you highlight different characters' speech in different colors.

Then, later on, you can go back and fill in the dialogue tags, description etc.

5. Fuck it and use a placeholder

If nothing works, it's time to move on.

Rather than perpetually getting stuck on that one scene, use a placeholder. Something like: [they escape somehow] or [big emotional talk].

And then continue with the draft.

This'll help you keep momentum and, maybe, make the scene easier to write later on once you have a better grasp on the plot and characters.

Trust me, I do this all the time.

It can take some practice to get past your Type A brain screaming at you, but it's worth it.

KOSA really highlights how much american law and companies dictate everything for the entire world, but how, unless you're american, there is not much you can do about it. i can't call or write a rep about KOSA because i'm not american, my representatives have no sway here, but if KOSA passes i'd have to give ID to access anything hosted in america. and because of how the world works, most things are based in the USA.

it affects the privacy and safety of non-citizens, of people who don't even live in the country, and yet because we aren't american, there's nothing we can do.

Why you shouldn’t say Latinos are people of colour

1. Not every Latino is a person of colour. 

To say Latinos are people of colour is to say that white Latinos are somehow less Latino than their non-white counterparts.

2. Latino isn’t a race.

Latinos can be literally any race.

To say that Latinos are a race when we’re not implies that we’re a monolithic group of people that “all look the same”.

Donnie is very very busy

He will let you kiss him when you deliver things to his lab

But if you manage to kiss him when he's really frustrated with something...

Donnie will pull you into his lap and bury his face in your neck

If you have moment to spare, feel free to crawl into his lap and cuddle while he works

He enjoys when you kiss his neck and face

He'll return the favor, pressing kisses to your neck

When he's free or taking a break?

You bet this man will find go looking for you

He'll snatch you away from whatever you're doing

Donnie can't sleep without you next to him

So if you're not at base, he's working in his lab waiting for your return

Leo

Leo is running around all the time

He's trying to make sure everything runs smoothly

So he doesn't really get a chance to be with you

He is amazed you even agreed to be with him considering it's like you two never see each other

If he manages to get a short break he'll run to you

Pulling you into some dark room or closet

Leo really can't get enough of you

If you walk by or give him something, his hands are on you

Tapping and tugging you closer

He normally can't sleep without you

But if he's been up for days on end, he can pass out once his face it's the pillow

When he's able to cuddle in bed with you, you leave with fresh marks on your neck and shoulders

If he's not able to stay in bed with you, he leaves you little notes

They're sometimes short, other times they're fairly long

They're full of inside jokes, love, admiration, and puns

Mikey

He's also running around

But Mikey is taking care of sick people and food

While also practicing his mystic arts

So he's a busy guy

But unlike Leo, he has a bit more freedom

Mikey will find you and pull you into an empty room

His brothers have made sure to message him before they find him

If you guys have tasks in the same area, Mikey has his hand in yours

Or an arm around you

He touches you every chance he gets

He'll kiss your cheek in passing

Squeeze your hand before you part ways for the day

While Mikey can sleep without you next to him, he much prefers you being there

Raph

He's busy training

He has his days filled with adults, kids, literally everyone

He gets a bit worn out

But he always looks forward to the time between classes

Cause you'll be waiting and he can have you all to himself for a few minutes

During these times what happened depends on the day

Good days, Raph is picking you up and kissing you like his life depends on it

On bad days, Raph will just hold you and let his hands caress your body

When he's able to take a bigger break, he's finding you

He's telling you how amazing you are, kissing your face, holding you close

Like Mikey, Raph can sleep without you

But does he want to? No.

“Where my requests not simple? Hm? I laid them out for you, every minute and fine detail! All of them right there on that paper!”

A hand, previously tapping an agitated rhythm alongside its pair, moves to squeeze its owner’s nose bridge. A disappointed glare is shot down at the cowering hotel owner, as intense violet lights stare her down.

“One job. You had ONE JOB. Bring my darling here-you succeed in that-which I may remind you is the literal bare minimum!”

The hotel owner had the dignity to lower her head, all the while keeping her ears open to her superior’s rant.

“Got them to my desired room, fine points for that! And yet-you missed the most important, crucial, critical, key piece of the puzzle-THE DROUGHT!”

Aggregated hands crack hard wood, as a flare of intense, mystical, purple energy knocks pictures off walls, couches to the floor, and the cowering woman to her knees.

“My kin-“

“Shut it. The most important part, of my plan for enteral happiness! The component I literally-look at my lips, look at me-I LITERALLY HAND DELIVERED TO YOU. Was lost. By one of your INCOMPETENT STAFF!”

Abruptly the man stood, uncaring that he speed and strength sent the heavy mahogany chair he had been sat in tumbling to the side, barely blinking when said chair cracked into two against the wall.

“Knocked over. Whoosh! Down the drain! LITERALLY MOONS OF WORK GONE. THEY WERE SO CLOSE TO DRINKING IT! SO. SO. SO. THREE SO’S-CLOSE TO BEING MINE! And know my sweet love is running amok through your hotel! Fussing their gorgeous little head over everything, when they could have-should have-WOULD HAVE BEEN SEATED BY MY SIDE! NO IN MY LAP! SAFE WHERE THEY SHOULD BE!”

Cold near frigid violet eyes snap over to the kneeling hotel owner, any and all words dying in her tone at the wordless demand for silence.

“Do you know what grinds my metaphorical gears? He says extremely calmly with every bit of restraint as a saint? Hm? Not only is my darling running amok in your dangerous hotel. We have to delay the ceremonies!”

Muttering an ‘offended scoff,’ hands trailed over suit lapels and brooch tie, soothing the completely flawless silk, before the irritated man continued his rant.

“My people are restless, they always have been comes with the territory of ghosts and all, but they were promised a wedding. A Royal Wedding. My wedding. Heavy, heavy, that’s two heavy’s, emphasis on ‘My wedding!’ The event of the year-no! To say that would be affront on my love and myself, our wedding will be the event of the century! And yet-what do we have, myself-an agitated groom, AND AN EMPTY CROWN AND THRONE !”

As if to add emphasis and salt to the wound, gloved hands scoop up an elaborate glass case. Lifting the carrying case to light, his rage gradually began to calm for a few tense seconds.

“I am not a patient person. I am extremely aware of that flaw of mine, however, that will not stop me from being agitated at the circumstances you have put us both in.”

With a hand far more gentle than the chaos of the wrecked office could say, he slowly pulled the case open, revealing an-equally if not more-elaborate crown which matches his own.

“And I gladly learn to be more patient for my dear, it could take me an eternity-“

The hotel owner eagerly snatched the opportunity to slip out of her now ruined office, as the violet suited king lifted the crown-a near perfect copy to his own-to his lips for a chaste kiss to its golden surface.

“But we will have all the time in the world soon my dear. Very soon. Of course you’ve claimed your rightful status by side.”

A mischievous, smile spread across the king’s face, as he turned to stare out the window overlooking the now frantic bustle of the hotel’s interior. Chuckling lowly to himself, he brought the second crown directly in front of his face, noting his own reflection before speaking.

“It not like I’ve left my darling any other option.”

i miss early part 2 asa, as a lonely and awkward woman myself i loved her portrayal but now i don't care as much for her

Asa’s writing in early Chainsaw Man felt more layered because we were constantly in her head, navigating her strange, personal thought processes. Something like her talk with Yuko about killing her neighbor, or the full page of her thinking happy people should just die— objectively, based on the current writing, Fujimoto would not write such important, personal moments. He would just have her say out loud “Sometimes I wished happy people would die… but I don’t feel that way anymore.”

Her internal dialogue revealed a character who was deeply insecure yet weirdly self-absorbed—someone whose “arrogance” was a defense mechanism for her depression and alienation. The back-and-forth exchanges with similarly weird people like Yuko or even Haruka highlighted her awkward, rambling way of viewing the world, making her feel like a fully realized person speaking to other fully realized people.

Now, though, she seems reduced to a plot tool, existing primarily to amplify Denji’s angst. It’s not that she’s been entirely stripped of personality, but the focus has shifted so dramatically that she feels less like her own character and more like a reactor to his personal struggles. It’s honestly hard to see this Asa having those strange, erratic thoughts that the early one did. She is just so, so, so flat. And all her conversations are so, so, so flat. The nuance of her perspective—the narcissism, the bitterness, the vulnerability—has taken a backseat to her place in Denji’s life. Dear God, even her relationship with Yoru is portrayed as the most nothingburger of all time. How can you even do that?

I’m just so disappointed with this character. Isn’t that strange? I can say a lot “I didn’t end up liking her” but no— I did. I love early Asa. She is a character in a story and serves it well. Late Asa is not the type of character I would spare a second glance towards. She is so banal. It’s almost like Fujimoto lost his endearment for her.
