I HATE this insistence that we have a moral obligation to worsen our health for the "greater good!!"
"Don't ignore politics-"
There's a reason in the mental hospital they block the news channels! It fucks people up! People find the world so damaged, future so hopeless, and situations so overwhelming they literally kill themselves!
Yes, yes, the activism guilt-tripping is supposed to be for those who simply don't care, but the disabled people who do care are the ones who wind up feeling guilty!
"I need ALL of you to start paying attention-"
Do what it takes to survive.
They are asking you to join in a 70-mile hike up a mountain, where in order to win, as many people as possible must reach the top as quickly as possible! But you are in excruciating pain and have no legs! There is no accessible way up the mountain! In trying to climb the mountain, you will cause yourself irreparable harm and likely death! You feel bad, you're letting everyone down, you can't keep up, you're about to fall, but your friend is saying "hey, I get it, sometimes my legs get super sore, but you have to keep climbing! It's our duty! Keep going! The only way to save everyone is if we do this together!"
They DON'T get it. Even if they say "well I know so-and-so who also has no legs and he just uses his arm-strength and he's at the top already, what if I carry you for a few steps until you have your strength back?" You're not him! He's clearly aquired tools and strengthened muscles you have not, and might never be able to! Only YOU know what you can handle. Do not fall to your death because you feel guilty!
Sometimes, the biggest act of resistance is surviving.
Not "humans are inherently good" or "humans are inherently evil" but a secret third thing (humans are inherently social animals which means that we're very good at cooperating and being compassionate towards those we perceive as being part of our community but we're also very good at being tribal and violent towards those we perceive as threats to our community and everyone defines their community differently)
Introducing new art dedicated to our acclaimed comic strip "Amphibia: The New Continent"
We remind you that the second chapter is already in the production process.
i have been seeing so much discourse online about "technically who gets to count as disabled" and how chronic illnesses are "not actually disabilities", as if anyone with a chronic condition is inherently less deserving of equal access. i am like 85% sure i have pots and i can't even go a flight up the stairs without feeling like death or stand for ten minutes. any "normal" activity makes me crash twice as hard.
if that isn't "disabling".... then what is?
and my point here isn't to argue about what "counts" as a disability. like can we all just agree on the fact that two people with even the same condition can have drastically different experiences? stop trying to make a spectrum into a binary.
it doesn't matter how "disabled" you are, EVERYBODY WITH VARYING DEGREES OF DISABILITY deserves EQUAL access to treatment and accommodations. we don't need to police each other, we need UNIVERSAL ACCESS.
The rest of B-Shift hearing about Ravi committing domestic terrorism for the sake of Chimney even after Bobby offered to take the fall and just thinking, “Oh God, they finally got him. They roped Ravi into their sick little co-dependent work family. We’re never getting him back.”
having comorbidities that contradict/contraindicate each other is so stupid man.
you have PMDD. every time you get your period you spend the week before on the edge of a major depressive episode and lose all hope for the future. unfortunately for you, you also have PCOS, which makes Hell Week entirely unpredictable.
so you try to stabilize and predict Hell Week via birth control. but wait! you have migraines with aura! all hormonal birth control is now contraindicated for you, because it increases your risk of death.
ah, well, fuck. okay, well, you have pcos and your hormones are out of wack, let’s get those back on track. but guess what! that’s hormonal birth control again! so your testosterone stays high, and you have chronic acne now.
well, okay, let’s leave the hormones alone. let’s just deal with the acne. however the high-strength acne prescriptions cause such bad birth defects that you are almost legally required to be on some form of birth control. can you see where i’m going with this?
okay, so birth control would “solve” all your problems at the risk of maybe making one thing worse. let’s chance it. oops! you’re now horrifically depressed for a third of every month—and not just that, but your migraines did get worse, and now you’re barely functional.
fuck fuck fuck, get off that. stop taking that. go get an MRI just in case. well, i hope you enjoy migraines, because for some reason that birth control experiment did lasting damage. but don’t worry, your MRI is completely clean!
just. comorbidities, man.
it shouldn't be a controversial take but:
disabled people are allowed to hate being disabled
