You, weakly, rubbed at your lower back, it still aching when you landed on the ground--hard--and how it was jabbed with a rock or... Something. It hurt, severely. You'd be alright, just... People being too rough, probably drunk or... Maybe high.
You half-limped, half-shuffled your way into the house, pulling off your coat and setting it on a hook, and kicking off your damned shoes. But, your moment of peace and quiet was quickly ruined by the sound of Childe's heavy footsteps, when he came running like an oversized pup.
He almost dove at you in a hug, but you flinched, "Don't!" You shouted... And he stopped, stunned, arms wide open for a hug, looking at you with fear. "I... I'm hurting a little, I just didn't want you to accidentally make it worse."
That calmed Childe, only a little. "Alright--can I still hug you, though? I'll be gentle." He reassured, sweetly, and you nodded. He simply hugged you close, pressing your body to his, and-
Your knees buckled, and you felt his arms tighten, groaning in pain at the sensation. Then, you realized you were being moved, and eventually sat down in a chair.
Your legs gave out, you only just realized.
"I... I'm sorry," you muttered, "I've... I'm really out of it. I'm okay, I promise."
Childe shook his head, "No, nono, you're not allowed to do that. Don't comfort me, something's wrong with you."
You stared for a moment... And sighed.
"I just got..." You thought, trying to figure out a way to word it that wouldn't make him run outside in a homicidal rage, "People made bad decisions, got a little handsy, and I got pushed around a bit... I'm just tired." You tried to convince him, but he got on one knee in front of you, to better look at your face as you sat.
"And do you know these people?" He asked, eyes wide but the rest of his face lacking any readable expression.
"No," you said, instantly, "Childe... Ajax, you're scaring me. You know I don't like it when you... Get like this."
Childe blinked once-twice, and his expression softened. "I'm sorry... I just-I don't like the idea of anyone hurting you... Even myself."
You cupped his jaw, sweetly, and smiled. "I know," you said, softly. "I know you don't. But I'm okay. We're okay. I'm just tired." You smiled a little wider, "I'll write down names next time, okay?" You half joked, "and my powerful warrior can go defend my pride and... Purity, I guess."
He chuckled, "Purity? I've defiled that already..." He only laughed for a few moments... And went quiet. "Do you need help getting to bed? I can order food, or if you want, I can get us some drinks... Or whatever you want." He insisted, still smiling happily.
"Can you just rub my back? I hit it hard when I fell..."
His eyes widened again, "Is-Is that why you fell, did you hit your spine-"
"No," you quickly reassured, "I fell because I'm exhausted."
He stared at you... Unsure.
"Alright. Let's get you to bed so I can rub your back how you like."
Which meant he was going to half help, half drag you to bed, get you undressed, lie you on your front until you dozed off, softly breathing from the relaxation
And he'd always end up waking you a tiny bit when he put you onto your side, a pillow between your knees, and a kiss on your cheek.
But you couldn't ever manage to be angry about it.
"I'm home!" Kaeya cheered--he had even gotten a bottle of wine to... well, he would say celebrate, but there wasn't anything to celebrate. Maybe just to enjoy the night, to make something from nothing.
But there was no reply... he figured it wasn't anything to worry about, maybe you were showering, or something... he set the bottle down on the table, resolving to come back to it a little later that night, getting off his coat, setting it on the chair... better to not risk ruining that, after all.
As he walked through the halls, looking around for you, wondering if you had gone out for something, he saw light from the bathroom, smiling--And he walked to see...
You were staring at the mirror, shaking like a leaf in the wind, eyes wide... but somehow empty of any emotion, of any life, as though you were just a statue.
He took a few steps over, "... Baby?" He asked, softly, and you jumped, eyes wide in horror--you were still wet, and a towel wrapped around you.
"Just me, just me..." He soothed, softly, and you took a deep breath...
"I'm sorry," you said, softly, "I've... just had a hard day."
Kaeya walked past you into the bathroom, grabbing a second towel to help dry you off, figuring you'd need such help, "Do you want to talk about it?"
For several long moments, you looked in the mirror, seeing Kaeya gently taking care of you, from fixing your hair to gently tucking up the towel covering you, as though he had not seen you completely naked several times before.
"We don't have to talk," he finally said, "I got wine, would that help?" He asked, a smile that bled concern.
"No," you admitted, genuinely, "I don't want to drink. I'm sorry."
He tsk'd his tongue gently, "Sorry this, sorry that, but what are you apologizing for?" He teased, gently, "You've had a rough day, and you're tired, and there's a few bruises on you... You did nothing but your best... and survive." He pressed a kiss to your cheek.
"How about we go cuddle and you can tell me if you want, and if not, I can read to you."
"... that sounds nice. Thank you, Kaeya."
"You're welcome, sweetness."
Maybe you liked to abuse the fact that you got free wine just a little bit. Diluc would always give it to you, within reason, and it's not like you were using him only for free wine!
It was just a nice bonus.
But the loud, crass tavern was not. Another one of those nights when people got paid and decided to blow their newfound money on drink, and then look into their wallets confused the next day, wondering where it had all gone. Diluc didn't even need an explanation, silently wishing he could leave with you, as he gave you a glass to enjoy outside--less people went outside during these days, for whatever reason.
You leaned back in your seat, backrest lightly tapping against the stone wall behind you, tilting the glass to your lips as you sipped lightly, savoring the taste....
Ah, if only Charles could be working tonight. Right now, cuddling up to warm, snuggly Diluc was a lot more appealing than sitting alone with the wind threatening to pick up and to start cutting at your skin. Just one night, not even one full night, just a few more hours and you could both go home
"Hey tiny," You heard a voice say, and you looked over, seeing a man pull up a seat next to you--you could see why he would call you tiny, he himself was quite massive in size, "What's someone like you doing out alone in the cold?" He leaned over the table, setting one elbow on it as he propped his head up with one hand. No longer sitting back, you straightened your spine and set down your glass with more force than was necessary back onto the table.
"I apologize," you said, "But I'm not in the mood for talking."
"Well," he said, sitting up again, "Maybe I'm not either," he pushed himself to his feet, his hands on the table, and you were effectively trapped--he able to easily block your escape whether you went around either side of the table, or if you went under or above it.
Fingertips trembled around your glass of wine, and you had an idea, standing slowly, and you walked around one side of the table, slowly, and he closed in, smiling wide--
You cracked the glass across his face, it shattering and slicing open his cheek, he reeling for just a moment from the shock, and the pain, you dashing over to the door, tears in your eyes as you finally got over to the door, fumbling desperately for a second until it flung open, and you ran in.
Diluc all but jumped over the bar upon seeing your distress through the crowd, Kaeya shouting in surprise, but it went forgotten as he rushed over you, holding you close to him, the bar gone silent.
You, for a second, just sobbed into his chest, "I... Diluc, he's outside, he..."
It was deafening to hear your own voice with so many people surrounding. Diluc's eyes narrowed, glaring--for a moment, you wondered if he was angry at you, but still hold your wrist tight, he went out front, dragging you along.
When the two of you found yourself outside, there was no one, but spilled wine, shattered glass, and a little blood was evident. You looked at Diluc as he scanned the area... and he looked back to you.
"I'm sorry," he said, softly. "... Kaeya owes me. I'll tell him to staff the bar, and then we'll go home... did he...?"
You shook your head, "Just... scared me."
He nodded, "You know I won't judge you."
"... I know. Thank you."
"... Mn. This night's gone on long enough, lets go home and get it over with already."
Tourist, many would call you, even if you came to the Wangshu Inn not to simply say you came, but to see someone you truly care for... and perhaps, from time to time, you focus on commissions instead, but this said someone is always worth it, with the few, loving touches he offer.
People got rowdy, and you could only panic when they grabbed you by the wrists, a big and powerful man. Only because several others were able to pry him off of you did you escape, majorly, unharmed. Your hands tingled, the grip too tight and too crushing, and you could tell they'd be bruised. It could've been worse, but...
All you wanted was to sit down and relax with his head on your lap, and surrounded by a comfortable silence.
You found your way to your usual room, and you sat down at a chair next to a table, lifting your hands and gently rubbing at your wrists... Maybe you should go purchase a salve before he got here? You didn't need to demand he appear immediately, you were alright with waiting, much to his dismay when you would have fallen asleep without him, he having to, stealthy, crawl into bed with you...
"... You're early."
You jumped, and Xiao stood there, spinning his spear in one hand, and then it disappeared into fragments of light, dismissed for the time being.
"Well, I missed you." You said, with a smile. He didn't smile--but that was normal. He walked over to you, and grabbed your hand, turning it so your wrist faced upwards, and he glared at the redness, the bruises already forming.
"What happened?" He asked, then grabbing for your other hand, doing the same and his scowl only increasing as he realized it was on both wrists.
"Just... a drunkard." You said, plainly, "People do stupid things when they drink."
He didn't seem pleased with that answer, "They hurt you." His hands trembled, but he was careful to not crush your hands, still holding them delicately.
"Everyone gets hurt," you tried to soothe his anger, "I'll be okay. I promise... I'm just... sore."
He sighed, "I'm going to get you something to put on that-" he tried to move, but you held onto his hands--tight enough that he couldn't easily pull them away.
"No, no..." You muttered, softly, "You never hold my hands. Stay? For a few minutes?"
He stared down at your hands... and held on a little tighter, taking a seat near you.
"... just a few minutes."
The door swung open, slamming against the nearby wall, and it creaked weakly as it tried to, slowly, swing back to it's closed position.
Zhongli jumped, his spear in hand, summoned by little more than instinct as he heard the noise, but there was no intruder, only you, as you ran and held him, sobbing into his chest.
Without any effort, his spear disappeared, and his arms wrapped around you, holding you close in a firm but still gentle hold.
"Love..." He whispered, softly, "What's wrong?"
For several long moments, you didn't say anything, and he just looked over you... Labored breathing, likely from running, or perhaps just distress.
He couldn't see any injuries, nor smell blood, even with his keen sense of smell, so perhaps you were... Fine?
... hm.
Eventually, your sobbing turned from cries to whimpers, and he managed to get you to sit down.
"Here," he set down some tissues, "The door is open. I'm going to go close it, get you some water, then... We can talk about it, okay?"
Through sniffles, you nodded, and he did as he said: The soft sound of the door clicking, running water, and then he came back, setting the glass down and lifting you effortlessly, setting you onto his lap before grabbing the glass and offering it to you once again.
"Did something do something to you?" He asked, voice low and smooth, as always, but softer than normal, as though he was afraid he could accidentally break you with his words.
Choked up, you slowly managed to explain it, all but being dragged into an alley, your head bashed against the stone ground, and you barely got away, so upset you couldn't think.
He was calm, but were you not present, he would be shredding some poor, poor vermin of Liyue to shreds.
Instead, he pressed a kiss atop your head, gently.
"I'm going to make sure there's no lasting damage, alright?" He knew the signs to look for, after all, "If there is, I will escort you to a healer... If not, would you like to go to sleep? You seem quite tired."
You nodded, and he made quick work. A bruise was forming on your scalp, oh, there'd be a bump, but a few more moments of examining your features, your eyes, and ensuring you were responding properly...
He held out a little bit of medicine, "Nothing that won't heal on its own, this can make it a bit more tolerable, my dear," he hummed, sweetly, and held out his arms for you, patiently waiting for you to jump into them so he could sweep you up and tuck you into bed...
Silently ruing that he couldn't protect you, but promising himself he'd work harder to ensure you wouldn't have to come home crying like this again.
Hi Bruna I've just read your latest kenej fic (hope I spelt that right lol) and now I really, really need to know what kaz's surprise is!! Anyway as usual I love your writing, keep up the good work!đ„°đ
Thank you, my lovely!!Â
continuation to this
***
Inej Ghafa is not a fan of surprises
and more than that: she doesnât like to be kept waiting
sheâs an impatient one, the Wraith
and Kaz knows it
âWhy do you insist on teasing me?â she asks him on their journey back home, frowning to herself
âAre you pouting at me, Wraith?â
a roll of her eyes is all she received
you know what? Inej doesnât think she likes this version of Kaz anymore
indeed, she tells him just that
âOh no,â Kaz drawls, looking over at her. âWhat will I do with my broken heart now?â
âYou are terrible.â
he truly is
and he grins like he knows
like it pleases him that she knows it as well
the farm isnât so differentÂ
heâd stuffed down memories, hidden them in depths of his mind that heâd rarely allowed himself to go to years before
memories of green fields and the stream behind it, where Jordie and him used to bathe in summer days - days he almost didnât remember, and were now only hazy memories, filled with smoke
sometimes Kaz thinks he mightâve dreamed those images
his brotherâs smile as he tried to catch salmon with his bare hands
his father calling them back home as the sun set
Kaz imagined that if heâd had a mother, sheâd be calling him too
and heâd run into her arms
Kazâs memories took him back to cold nights by the fire - the beautiful hearth that his father had built with his bare hands, and that Kaz had fixed all on his own
he hadnât allowed anyone to touch that particular place of the house - it had been his to fix
he remembered cats and dogs running around, chasing each other, and Kaz chasing them, bruising his kneesÂ
at last, when they arrive, Inej is jumpingÂ
he smirks down at her, taking her hand in his
his limp is worse today - much worse, and Inej noticesÂ
she holds his arm, and he can feel her balance him, even if she is barely doing it
Inej is very subtle in helping him, thatâs something he noticed over the years
âWhere is it?â
âWhat is?â
âMy surprise,â she says as she helps him up the porch stairs
Kaz snorts on a laugh. âYou really donât like waiting for things, do you, Inej?â
âTell me.â
âFor the hundreth time: I am not telling you.â
âWhat is it,â she insisted, watching him. âWhat is it, what is it, what-â
âNo.â
Inej sighs. âIf we ever have a child, I swear heâll take after you in that department.â
and without another word, she walks inside the house
but Kaz pauses on the doorway
the words did something to him
he knew she thought nothing of what she said but-
Kazâs eyes stray to that fireplace - hazy memories of his father there
suddenly the picture of him and his own son there glued to his mind
and Inej, there, too
her arms around them both-
âKaz?â Inej calls
shaking his head to himself, Kaz enters the house
âHe should be here any minute.â
Inej doesnât know if she should grin or be frightened
so her face contorts into something in between
âWho?â She begs
Kaz smiles
she steps into his space. âTell me.â
âThatâs not going to work.â
her eyes trace the line of his jaw, the scar in between his lips and his chin
the strong eyebrows, and his dark eyes
âStop it,â he snarls, and moves away from her
Inej smiles. âI just looked at you.â
âExactly.â
she looks triumphant
suddenly, Kaz looks over his shoulder - to the door he left open
to the figure now walking towards the house
and then-
Inej gasps
not at the girl-
but at what she brings, leashed and golden and furry
âNo, you did not.â
âI did,â he grins
âIâm going to cry,â Inej breathes
âI was prepared for it.â
Inej and Kaz step onto the porch
and sure enough-
the girl smiles and waves, a close neighbour, for the looks of her, and beside her is a very enthusiastic little boy, waving his tail when he sees Kaz and Inej, his tongue lapping out of his mouth
Inej is speechless
âHeâs yours,â Kaz tells her. âIf you want him.â
âShut up, Kaz,â Inej breathes, and takes a step closer
the girl says, âHeâs just turned two months old.â
âOh, beautiful Saints,â Inej whispers, and real tears formed in her eyes as the puppy came right onto her, trying to leap into her arms. âI love him.â
the girl smiles, and Kaz gives her a nod of thanks
âHeâs really ours?â Inej says, looking over her shoulder at Kaz
Kaz can only nod
watching her
thereâs an odd feeling in his face - he can only guess his cheeks are hurting from smile
when the girl leaves, Inej sits on the grass, and the puppy takes the chance to lick her hands, her face
Inej is laughing, wrapping her arms around him
Kaz says softly, âDo you like it, Inej?â
âI canât believe youâd do this,â she tells him as Kaz comes closer, watching her. âI mentioned this months and months ago. We were not even married then.â
âThe day I proposed,â Kaz says. âI remember your exact words. How you would one day get a dog. That it was another wish you would give in to.âÂ
she looks at him with a sort of amazement. âOf course you remember.â
Kaz tentatively sits down on the grass with her, cane by his side, and yelps when the puppy jumps into his lap
Kaz pushes his face away when he tries to lick his face, but gives him a few tentative pats on the head, and the puppy is all too happy to lie there, eyes closed, mouth opened, as if heâs smiling
Inej leans in, and kisses Kazâs cheek. âI love you.â
âIs that meant for him?â Kaz taunts
âFor you,â Inej smiles softly. âFor you, Kaz.â
Kaz looks over her, their lips so close
he leans in, but the puppy jumps up, breaking them apart, and Kaz holds him in his arms, letting out a little laugh that Inej clung to
she adored to see Kazâs face like this
she says, âI might not like surprises. But I might make an exception for yours now.â

I WANT MORE FOUND FAMILY STUFF PLEASE SINCE I LOVE IT SO MUCH
Ahhhhh, mom, Iâm sorry it took so long!!! I hope you enjoy this little bit with babyyyyyy. I know itâs short, but I had to write this little scene! The next one will have to be longer, ofc!!!
I hope you donât mind I used a little OC I came up with a while ago for Jerzaâs son.
Love ya!
Jerza, Found Family: Keon
âItâs alright,â Jellal said, gently resting his hand on Wendyâs shoulder. She paused before the doorway, expression unreadable.
    âWhat if⊠he doesnât like me?â
Jellal shook his head, âThatâs impossible. Youâre wonderful, and youâre going to be an amazing big sister. Heâll love you.â
She glanced up at Jellal with wide eyes. âOkay. I want to meet him.â
âOf course you do,â Jellal nodded. He grabbed hold of the door handle and gently swung open his bedroom door. Wendy stepped in slowly, Jellal following behind her closely. Erza was leaning back against the headboard of the bed, arms wrapped around a little bundle her eyes focused on their sonâthe little boy she had brought into the world not long before. She looked exhausted, but so beautiful. Jellal knew Erza was strong, knew Erza was brave⊠but never in his life had he been this proud of her.
Jellal moved around Wendy to sit next to his wife, pressing a kiss to her temple, and glancing down at their son. He was fast asleep, little mouth hanging open. Jellal pressed a soft kiss to his headâagainst a soft tuft of purple hair. Then he turned to glance up at Wendy, and gestured for her to join them.
The young girl hesitated before sitting down on the edge of the bed, peering over at her baby brother with wide eyes. âHeâs⊠so littleâŠâ she whispered.
âYour baby brother,â Erza said, her voice hoarse, she smiled, âDo you want to hold him?â
âM-me?!â Wendy gasped. âI⊠I donât knowâŠâ
âHere,â Jellal gently adjusted her arms, âYouâll do great and weâre right here. Heâs your baby brother after all⊠you should at least say hello, right?â
âRightâŠâ Wendy paused a look of determination crossing her face. âAlright, Iâm ready!â
Erza sat up, the baby stirred but didnât wake as his mother gently passed him into Wendyâs arms. The young dragon slayerâs eyes widened, she glanced up at Jellal in awe. âHeâs so light!â She beamed down at the baby boy, âHeâs so little!!!â She was absolutely entranced, her eyes filled with excitement. All worry was gone. The baby stirred, little hands flailing, his mouth opening in a tiny yawnâhis nose scrunching, his eyes shut tight. Wendy let out a laugh, âHeâs so cute!â
âYou might not always think so,â Jellal warned, but he couldnât shake the smile off his own face. Wendy glanced up, offended.
âOf course, I will! Heâs my baby brother!â She looked back down at the little bundle in her arms. âIâm going to teach you all sorts of great things, Keon. Cool magic⊠all about the guild⊠maybe Iâll share all of my good secrets,â she smirked, âLike where mom and dad think they âhideâ the cookies.â She looked back up at Jellal with a grin and then blinked in surprise, âOh⊠mom fell asleep.â
Jellal turned a little to glance at his wifeâto see her fast asleep against the pillows. Her mouth was slightly open, her hair disheveled, but she was so beautiful. âWe should let her sleep,â Jellal murmured, âSheâs been through a lot.â
    âRight!â Wendy nodded.
âWhy donât you go make some tea, Iâll make sure sheâs comfortable, and weâll sit with Keon out in the living room?â Jellal smiled. The dragon slayer nodded again as Jellal gently lifted Keon into his arms. Wendy skipped back out into the hall, and Jellal turned to his wife.
âYouâre so brave,â he murmured, leaning forward to a press a kiss to her forehead. âI love you, Erza.â

DUSK HARBINGER- CHILDEâS MASTER
Fox to the Flame: Pythia (Amari) Ragvindar Lupicus
Constellation: Vulpes Ignis
Vision: Pyro (Formerly), Abyss (Formerly), All (Current)
BACKGROUND
âFOR DAWN TO COME, ONE MUST RID OF THY DARKNESS; FOR DUSK TO COME, ONE MUST LET THE LIGHT FALL INTO THE HORIZON.â
Amari is 10 years older than her brother, Diluc (22), meaning she is 33 years of age. She left her home at the Dawn Winery in search of âDuskâ at the age of 16. She arrived in Snezhnaya shortly after. There she took the liberty of speaking with the Cyro Archon, Tsaritsa, thus gaining her second vision- Cyro. She then travelled to Inazuma, the Land of Eternity, meeting with Baal. This was before the shogun had become twisted, and Amari had established ties- gaining her the Electro Vision. She changed her name from Pythia to Amari. On her way to Natlan, she came across a Mirror Cicin Mage and followed her. The mage bore a child in Wolvendom, Razor, and left the child. Amari decided to raise the child along with the Lupine Pack- whom believe in lupical. She named the silver-haired child Razor and raised him as her own. She was 17 at the time. Razor gained the power of the vision through her and the way to use it. She had taught Diluc the claymore when she was 15 (He was 5 at the time). She then made her way to Natlan 6 years later, and left Razor in the care of Lupus BĂłreas, or Andrius. When she arrived in Natlan, she met with Murata- the Lady of Fire. She formed a bond in finding out that she is a Child of Murata, and eventually strengthened her Pyro vision. Amari decided that when she finished her journey, she would join Murata in Natlan. After a solemn goodbye, she made her way to Liyue and met the Adepti along with Zhongli. She gained a Geo vision during the Rite of Descension. On her way to Sumeru, she met a young Lisa and guided her to the Sumeru Academy and gifting her with her first catalyst, Dawn of Starry Nights. Cyno, an old acquaintance of Amariâs, agreed to take Lisa in. She met with the archon and gained yet another vision. The time came for the last stretch of her journey, Fontaine. She played in a circus act to gain the attention of the archon and got herself a Hydro vision. Her journey was over and it was time to return to Natlan. Though, when she was faced with a Dragon of Dimensions, her vision spiraled out of control, plunging her into the deepest parts of the Abyss. She was overtaken the power that lead her to give Ajax the Foul Legacy- The Devouring Deep. She taught Ajax everything she knew and gave him the same Hydro Vision he wears today. After Ajax left, she was freed of her âcurseâ and returned to Natlan. She swore never to use all of her visions at once again.
Klee: Hey Diluc, can I go get some candy?
Diluc: what did Kaeya say?
Klee: no
Diluc: then why do you think Iâll let you?
Klee: Because Kaeyaâs not the boss of you.
Diluc, internally: itâs a trap itâs a trap itâs a trap
For @shadyhydrathesnekqueenâ !
I hope you feel better soon, dear! And I hope you enjoy this short little read! <3
Jerza + Wendy: Dad
âShhâŠâ Erza laughed a little as Jellal leaned over to press a kiss to her cheek. âShhâŠ! Donât wake her up!â Wendy was fast asleep, pressed between the two of them on the couch, blanket wrapped snuggly around her shoulders, popcorn bowl set aside on the coffee table.
âShe fell asleep during the movie,â Jellal grinned, âI think sheâs not going to wake up any time soon.â
âItâs late,â Erza murmured. The TV was glowing in front of them, on the home screen for the film. âWe should get her into bed.â Between them, Wendy jerked a little, as if she was dreaming. Erza paused, watching the girl closely. Another nightmareâŠ? She glanced over at Jellal, their eyes met. She could see he was worried as well. Wendy had nightmares every so often. They were always bad. The girl between them let out a whimperâshe was afraid. Her eyelids fluttering.
     âD-DaâŠ!â
âWendy!â Erza whispered, âItâs just a dream, dear, wake up!â
âDad!â Wendy shuddered in her sleep, and then her voice rose to a scream. âDad! Dad! N-no! Dad!â
âWendy!â Jellal gently shook the girlâs shoulder, âWake up! Itâs just a dream, itâs just a dream!â
Wendyâs eyes fluttered open. She was only conscious enough to realize she was alright, realize she had been dreaming. âD-dadâŠâ she mumbled, dropping into his arms, âYouâre okay⊠youâreâŠâ she was asleep again before either of them had time to ask her if she was alright.
For a moment the room was silent. Erzaâs eyes met Jellalâs and her lips turned up in a bright smile. âDad.â She mouthed.
Dad? Jellal glanced down at the girl in his arms. Do I⊠really deserve to be called that? Was she dreaming about someone else
***
When Wendy woke up her body was sore. I had another nightmare. Her body was always sore after the bad ones. She felt guilty. That means Mom and Jellal had to deal with it. Her gut twisted in knots. She hated that. That she was such a burden to them. She hated her nightmaresâhow she could hardly remember them when she woke, only flashes, and how Erza and Jellal always remembered them and how she screamed for them.
Those nightmares⊠they were always the same. She could always remember flashesâAcnologiaâŠ. And someone she loved being hurtâright in front of her. It made her feel sick. Just donât think about it now. Itâs over. She slipped out of bed, her muscles protesting, pulling on her warm knit sweater and slipping into slippers. It was early, she left her hair down, tiptoeing downstairs to the kitchen to get something for breakfast. She was hoping no one else would be awake, but Jellal was sitting at the table, reading a book and sipping tea. He glanced up when she stepped in.
âGood morning,â he said, smiling a little. âDo you want some tea?â She nodded once, and he got up to grab a mug, filling it with the warm drink and setting it in front of the chair next to his. âCome sit down.â She padded over to the table, pulling out the chair and dropping down to sit next to him. The tea was hot, so she wrapped her hands around the ceramic mug to warm them, and let the steam warm her face.
     âThank you,â she said softly.
âYouâre welcome,â Jellal responded. There was a pause, before he said, âWendy, thereâs something I want to ask you.â Wendy glanced up at him to meet his eyes. âDo you⊠want to call me âDadâ?â
Her eyes widened, and she glanced down at her hands. Why is heâŠ? Suddenly she remembered waking up the night before, screaming for himâscreaming Dad.
     âI⊠If you⊠I mean, if you⊠if youâreâŠâ
Jellal laughed a little, reaching out to pull her into a gentle hug. âIâd like that, if thatâs what you want.â Wendy felt tears sting the corners of her eyes, as she gripped Jellalâs shirt and held him tight.
âYes!â She whispered. It made her heart warm. I have a mom and dad. She smiled, holding Jellal close. I have a mom and a dad. Â
