Statement begins

[ID: A full-body drawing of Jon and Martin from the Magnus Archives kissing in a supply closet. Jon is a thin tall Indian man with long, dark curly hair. Martin is a fat white man with short hair and glasses who is slightly shorter than Jon. The drawing is rendered in murky green colors, with highlights in yellow. Martin leaned back against a shelf, tilting back under his weight, causing items on the shelf to fall backward. Yes! I headcanon that (or for this AU thing): Michael was born on 1967. was hired into the institute around 1987 (age 20) was thrown into the spiral around 2010 (age 43) while Gerry was born on 1986 Eric dies on 1988 (Gerry was 2 y/o) Mag 35 (2002) happens when Gerry was 16. Mary binds herself to the book when Gerry was 22. The current year for them is 2015, so Gerry is currently 29 while Michael is 48. (For this AU thing they meet months before Michael was thrown into the distortion. so, Michael would be around 43 while Gerry was 24.)

Reid’s Autistic Traits

I was bored, so I decided to make a compilation of sorts on my favorite autistic character, Dr. Spencer Reid. These have been piling up in my files, so prepare for a gif-style infodump.

Stimming

Self-stimulatory behavior often consists of repetitive movements. Reid is frequently seen fidgeting with his hands and other objects. He almost always talks with prominent hand movements. He also frequently touches his face. Reid occasionally spins in chairs, rocks back and forth, etc.

Missing Social Cues/Confusion in Social Situations

Despite his excellent profiling skills, his interactions with strangers and friends often leave Reid confused and causes him issues when trying to connect with people. He will miss jokes and sarcasm, take things literally, and occasionally gets uncomfortable when speaking publicly.

Infodumping, Hyperfocus, Special Interests

Reid’s special interests, as I have observed them, involve general knowledge seeking, criminology, Halloween, old foreign films, and sci-fi. Reid has a more rare trait of autistic people; savantism. If you believe in quantifying intelligence, Reid has an extremely high IQ (187), He also has an eidetic memory and can read 20,000 words per minute. When Reid is working a case, he frequently enters hyperfocus, ignoring everything else around him. Reid often goes into long-winded explanations of things and is oblivious to others’ frustration with his infodumping.

Sensory Issues

Reid doesn’t have as many obvious sensory seeking/avoidant behaviors as many other autistics, but it does manifest every once in a while. Reid is often uncomfortable with touching strangers, especially shaking hands. He has shown sensitivity to bright lights and loud sudden noises. Reid’s clothing choices also reflect his preference to be comfortable.

Coordination/Spatial Issues

Reid tends to display spatial awareness, coordination, and dexterity issues. He prefers academic pursuits, and ridicule in childhood further led to his aversion to physical activity/sports. He has also only very rarely been shown to drive a car, and takes the train to work. This may be due to difficulties with driving ability.

Appearance/Hygiene issues

Many autistic people struggle with basic hygiene and appearance upkeep. Reid’s hair, whether short or long, is almost always messy and unkempt. Reid’s clothes are often disheveled as well.

Trouble Regulating/Expressing Emotions

Reid tends to suppress his emotions much of the time, but when he experiences strong emotions they tend to pour out and seriously effect him in ways that don’t effect the rest of the team. Reid also tends to have odd/exaggerated facial expressions which may be a way of overcompensating for his struggles of expressing himself acceptably.

Sitting Cross-legged (I’m not actually sure if this is an autistic trait but I always sit like this and so does Reid so I thought I’d include it)

the prime defenders and music all ashe winters knows is music. they have multiple pairs of headphones, one wired so it doesnt die and one wireless so they can jam without twisting cords. their phone is constantly low battery from constantly acting as a speaker. they cant really play any instruments (too much noise for old man mark) but definitely knows how they work. acts as a vocalist during pd jam sessions, doesnt have crazy range and wont act like they do. usually stays in a lower register and their voice gets quieter with higher ranges. has imaginary concerts all the time and interacts with the people theyre jammin with. dakota cole has experienced the top 40 to indie soundcloud pipeline. he organizes music into feelings or activities - the longest used to be for training, now its a 10 hour compilation of pd's favorite songs for road trips. "oh dakota must know drums" nonono shhhshh. dakota's worst fear is sitting still. he tried, but kept trying to stand up and losing the beat. he switches to guitar and is immediately in love. dances around while playing even if it means he messes up a bit. has good chemistry with pretty much anyone hes playing with. william wisp fills the void with the same 5 artists he's listened to since middle school. he would always repeat songs with a strong beat. he never asked his parents for a drum set, but its the first thing he wanted on the pd base. he sharpies on a work-in-progress ghost logo to the front and over time the space fills with doodles and signatures. gnaws at the end of drumsticks both consciously and unconsciously. didn't want to play with anyone else for a good while, but opened up to dakota when he realized they were together for the long run. vyncent sol's concept of music is a bit different. he's used to soft hymns from his mother and improvised tunes from bards. he learned harpsicord, but there isnt much of an audience for that on prime (had he continued living on fauna with the greats, he would have forgotten it in favor of training.) when this is revealed to will and dakota, they drag him to a music shop to try a modern piano. the deeper sounds of it are startling but welcome. this progresses into keyboard to be more involved with the others. has a melodic voice, but keeps it to humming in the kitchen or absent minded singing.

No listen- LISTEN! He’s a cat boy. He literally eats rats. You cant silence me! No no you dont understand- no plea- *gunshot*

(Also, vyncent tried to dye his hair black when he got to prime to blend in more, but the purple bled through cause it was shitty box dye.)
