Yeah I think you’re in the right place, Al.
Chai tea bag + lil but of brown sugar + apple cider packet + 16 oz. mug of hot but not quite boiling water
it will not Fix You but like. maybe. maybe.
this feels really odd to ask but but what do you think the hunting dogs' thoughts are about death? specifically if they die and how? cause I feel like all of them share a variation of "I will go down guns blazing and with glory"
fukuchi definitely feels it and I feel like jouno as well. they've both had rough and violent lives so I feel like they've always thought death was just right around the corner.
I don't know about the rest of them though. teruko I feel shares the thought but not as intense as the other two, and I dont know about tecchou and tachihara.
anyway. it's a neat thought to me :3
ohhh i’ve been thinking of the best way to answer this for DAYS. this analysis will be long so ill put it under a readmore.
overall, it is shown that they can die. i assume due to their abilities and bodily enhancements that they do not die of injuries very easily. it makes me wonder how disease hits them? partially mechanical bodies may not respond to illness as well as natural bodies would? or maybe the opposite and they can heal more so internally? anyways here's my thoughts on how each hunting dog perceives dying!!
i see fukuchi as fairly self-preserving up until the end. he can't die in battle because he needs to make sure the decay of angels plot carries out.
remember that he was warned of this at nine years old. he had to spend his life preparing for this. he likely grew very wary of living recklessly and became great at fighting very fast and young; i assume that's why he went through dojos to fight as a child.
under no circumstances could he die until the world was safe.
i imagine he put on a selfless face and was willing to take serious harm in order to protect the peace, but i highly doubt he was ever willing to sacrifice his life until his plan worked out.
here we see his thought process and how things need to fall into place. his participation was essential because in no other situation would fukuzawa be the one able to get access to the one order. if fukuchi had died beforehand, the war would play out as the amenogozen warning claimed.
he had to leave the world to fukuzawa, the man he could trust most before facing his own demise.
of course, at this point in the series he has been killed since that was the final goal of his plan. a noble death for a fantastic hero.
im actually a little conflicted on his perception of death. i believe jouno is willing to sacrifice his life if absolutely necessary but is probably more self-preserving than the others. i believe he likely uses his confident and slightly arrogant attitude to hide this self-preserving mindset. someone who comes off as intimidating or nonchalant during battle is more likely to throw off the enemy whereas appearing nervous or angry will make them seem vulnerable. i believe jouno also sees himself as very strategic and able to get out of situations easily if needed. he's a quick thinker from what we've seen thus far.
lets look at when he confronted fukuchi.
he starts off very confidently accepting the offer. we know this is a facade but him immediately trying to throw fukuchi off guard seems so show he's pretty confident in his next move.
but when this doesn't work, he immediately tries to flee. this is fairly unique for a fight in bsd, many characters will often fight until they either get what they wish or they're too injured to move. despite jouno having an ability that could dodge fukuchi's, he still chose to try and escape instead of continuing to fight. this is a very normal human reaction to have but not one you see as often.
and at a disturbance, he begins to panic and needs to ground himself by reassuring himself instead of fighting back. he's not willing to put his life on the line to stop a global terrorism and his own escape is seen as a victory, which i see as him being more self-preserving. this all took place before the sword was set on fire, so it wasn't as if he had that threat to escape yet.
however, there's a chance he just didn't know how to fight the amenogozen; but his ability was definitely one of the best to fight against fukuchi with.
still, he's smart and made sure to plan adequately in case he was injured in the battle against fukuchi. he wants to keep himself safe, but he's still smart enough to take precaution.
i think jouno has probably been through a lot in his life and wants to spend a while living happily, making him more afraid to die than the others. this is even shown when he took teruko being angry as a threat while fukuchi laughed over it.
(as a small note, fukuchi's line in the anime was "haha. it seems our gremlin is angry today" which makes more sense in this context).
so tldr i think jouno would only go down if absolutely necessary and otherwise is fairly self-prioritizing.
i believe tecchou would sacrifice himself if it brings justice.
however, he seems to see himself as one responsible for judgement, so i imagine he gives every single fight his all.
regardless of him acting as judgement, it's been shown that tecchou is willing to die if he fails at his work.
here he promises that if he were to fail he would commit seppuku (killing oneself via slicing through your stomach--an honourable death for a samurai fighter (which lines up with irl tetchou coming from samurai lineage)), which is an incredibly agonizing way to die. regardless, he is fully willing to do it if it is for peace. this shows a confidence in death and commitment to his sense of justice to an extreme manner.
and when he found himself in a situation where he was in the wrong, he immediately admitted defeat and asked his opponent to kill him.
he admits defeat, says his wrongs and is willing to accept the consequences.
he even jumps to the harsh conclusion that he isn't worthy of his title as a hunting dog. the stark white in his eyes show that his mind isn't corrupted and that he is doing what he believes is proper justice. incredibly noble.
luckily he was spared-and likely learned a lot about justice not always being as black and white as things appear.
overall, tecchou is a very noble fighter and is willing to put his life on the line for justice. he doesn't seem to fear death and will embrace it if he feels it is earned or deserved.
i have less to say about tachihara than the others. i see him as the type that will go down over what's right and that's shown during his fight with fukuchi.
he isn't willing to fear death or beg for forgiveness. he will go down if it is worthy.
we also see that he keeps a argumentative spirit towards the enemy despite the circumstances. he will put down his opponent even in the moment of death, he just has the confidence to.
this panel also shows that he's more willing to die than to be defeated. he doesn't want to harm anyone and be controlled so he tries to kill himself first.
overall, he's a strong fighter who isn't afraid to sacrifice his life for what he believes in. his orders make him who he is, and if the orders are to win he either will or he will die trying.
(of course that last part doesn't really count when he was posing as a mafioso because he couldn't blow his cover by easily surviving everything).
much like tachihara, teruko seems to be very willing to put herself on the line to keep people safe. this is shown almost immediately in her introduction.
if ordered, she is willing to die. she's incredibly dedicated to her job and would go down if it saves people.
she's willing to go to drastic measures to keep herself alive as well, destroying her eardrum and continuing to try and fight sigma despite being under the directed resonance guns (which were made to destroy people like her). she didn't run, and she did absolutely everything she could have done in order to win.
she seems to also pride herself in fighting and being hurt in battle, likely to show her resilience and ability to do whatever it takes if it saves people.
she even goes on to call the hunting dogs "society's servants" and refers to the enhancement surgeries as "searing order into their own bodies."
this immense dedication makes me strongly believe that she would have no problem sacrificing herself if it is for the best. she killed fukuchi despite really caring for him, so i can see her being willing to put herself into that situation as well.
tysm for the question!!!!! this was super fun to read through the scenes again and try to piece together a logical guess on them all.

Actually im not done thinking about codotverse Riddler's Super 50. Do you know how interesting I think it is that he has and drives around a 1949 Super 50? I think it's so fascinating and intriguing and I'm going to try to put it into words
1949 Buick Super 50s are collectors items right? Buick and other car enthusiasts jump at the bit to get their hands on one, because it was the first time in years that buick had produced a brand new design for their cars, and they only sold it for a year. I consider this design to be very classy, sleek, and very dramatic. All things I would also consider mr riddler.
Now what I find most interesting is that he actually drives it around. I dont know how common it is for collectors to drive their cars about town, I assume common enough because you cant really just let it sit there otherwise it can become damaged, but also you cant really drive them around too much bc theres a higher risk of external damage as well. So probably they just drive it around the block once a month. But I dont think collectors will drive their 1949 super 50 across country. That's FAR too much of a risk to damage. But Riddler did! He drove it all the way to georgia and Minesota! He actually uses it like a car and not like a glass figure. (I assume. granted i dont think there was any reference to him driving the 50 specifically but that is the only car that has ever been mentioned and when he's scolding Query and Echo he refers to them taking care of his car in the singular so I'm assuming thats his only car)
It's like he wants to be seen as classy, and I would say even gentlemanly as shown by him having said car and his 1866 Derringer (things I personally think are classy and gentlemanly), but then breaks and distorts that image by using these items with their original intended use instead of preserving them. It feels like hes intentionally breaking the 'rules'. Probably mostly to show off, but also it makes a statement about his whole mindset of refusing to be controlled and not wanting to be forced into place. So he acts out even in the smallest and most insignificant ways. idk. I lost my train of thought.
Anyway i just think its interesting that he went through all the trouble to get this cool car then kind of break the 'rules' with it.
Dazai and Chuuya would totally be the duo at fifteen and sixteen chasing after one another and dueling with lightsabers and making the lightsaber noises too.
Dazai's the dramatic one when he pretends to die, going full-on villain monologue on Chuuya before he grabs Chuuya's lightsaber, puts it under his arm and plays dead.
Mori has absolutely no idea what he's walking in on when Chuuya's triumphantly standing over Dazai's (fake dead) body, but so long as they aren't actively killing each other, he just smiles and walks away.
The stories we grew up with all taught us to value other people and cultures and to treasure the differences between us. Only villains were xenophobic, or sexist, or racist, or totalitarian. I can’t understand how anyone can have missed that.
If you’re upset that there’s a black Spider-Man, or a black Captain America, or a female Thor, or that Ms. Marvel is Muslim, or that Captain Marvel was pro-feminism, or any of the other things right-wing “fans” say is “stealing their childhood” - you never got it in the first place. The things you claim are now “pandering to the lefties” were never on your side to begin with.
If you consider yourself a fan of these things, but you still think the LGBTQ+ community is too “in your face”, or have a problem with Black Lives Matter, or want to “take the country back from immigrants”, then you’re not really a fan at all.
Geek culture isn’t suddenly left-wing… it always was. You just grew up to be intolerant. You became the villain in the stories you used to love. Disagree? See yourself out.

Dazai to Odasaku about Akutagawa: "If I'd left him to his own devices, he would've ended up a slave to his own powers until he destroyed himself."
Hey hi what does that mean???
I'm probably way overthinking it but it just reminded me of when I first started my watch of the anime and we get to the opening scene with Akutagawa and Rashoumon (I can't find the exact scene but here's something similar from DA)
He implies he's not attacking with her so much as he's reining her in from devouring everything - and originally I thought, hey, that's a cool premise. It seems like there's something odd about this guy's ability; he's talking about it like it's almost sentient.
But then it didn't really get brought up again so I kind of forgot about it.
And sure maybe all the above line means is that his ability is naturally attuned to violence and he could grow more bloodthirsty, etc - but if that's the case, why bring him into the mafia?
So I started thinking about Dead Apple (which I really need to rewatch...) and how there was this focus on Atsushi as the "antithesis" of special abilities. And I just kind of thought about that because... wouldn't that title go to Dazai...?
But then it's stated that Atsushi's claws can cut through any ability... including Rashoumon (he also has some connection to the Book which absolutely must be related somehow but I'm skipping over that for the purposes of this post). Dazai describes Akutagawa as "a sword without a sheath". Is Atsushi part of the sheath? It would make a degree of sense: after all, we get a sharp reminder in the movie of how imperative it is that Dazai nullifies Chuuya's ability - it is literally needed to keep Arahabaki in check.
But why such a focus on self-destruction and sheathing... unless there really is something dangerous that needs to be reined in? That needs to be controlled.
I think about the dragon in Dead Apple called the "chaos of all special abilities".
I think about how the tiger and dragon are another representation of yin and yang. I think about how Atsushi and Akutagawa so clearly have that yin-yang dynamic. I think about how Rashoumon very well has the appearance of a hungry snake - or a dragon.
I think about how the focal point of an entire altered timeline was the prevention of Akutagawa from joining the mafia and the taking of his sister. And then I wonder why Akutagawa always seems to factor into Dazai's plans.
I think there's something special about Akutagawa's ability.
I think that something special, whatever it is, is very dangerous - more than we know.
I literally cannot stop thinking of this scene in Hobbs and Shaw because this shows that Luke has obviously studied the Shaws a lot!!
He uses the exact same way he tracked Owen down in FF6 to track Hattie down!
He’s literally comparing her intelligence up against Owen’s and is complimenting her!
And when Deckard comes barreling in later saying “That’s my sister!” that’s when all the pieces fall into place and Luke finally understands why Hattie used the same tactics as Owen. They’re brother and sister!
Can we have more Letty Shaw please? 😁 Also, question: does Letty end up with Dom in this AU? 'cuz I'd love some overprotective siblings, only to give up when they realize that their wild sister was bound to fall for another loco eventually
Absolutely friend! I'm loving this idea! And yeah, I think I will have Letty ending up with Dom. Mostly because I don't really ship her with anyone else and I love the idea of Dom now having to get through three other Shaws to get to Letty 😂
First part is here
~~~
Deckard was nearly sprinting down the street as he rushed towards his little siblings' school
It was Letty's first day at school with Owen and Hattie, and now Deckard was going to be late picking them up
He honestly hadn't meant to take a nap after his shift at his part time job, but he had just been so tired
And had woken up to only having ten minutes to get to the school that was several blocks away
Jumping around a gaggle of teenage girls, Deckard could see the school in the distance, with kids still pouring out
Maybe his siblings wouldn't notice that he was running late
He didn't need Letty think he didn't care
The little girl was the same age as Owen, but didn't have his level of cockiness. She'd need a bit more time with the other Shaw brother for that to happen
Instead, she had been quiet and reserved as she watched Deckard and his siblings go about their normal lives. Letty was still getting used to London and everything else in their country
But, she had kept Deckard up late, asking all sorts of questions about European cars. That probably explained why he needed a nap so badly
Finally slowing his pace, Deckard stopped a short distance from the entrance of the school and tried to look over all the kids' heads to spot his siblings
And found them standing at the entrance with one of their teachers
"Shit!" Deckard muttered under his breath and waded through the throng of kids towards them
As he got closer, he could see Hattie holding Owen's hand tightly and shuffling her feet nervously. No doubt because of the way both Owen and Letty were glaring up at the teacher
Owen was holding Hattie close to him as he tried to puff his chest out. He looked the furthest thing from intimidating
Meanwhile, Letty had her arms tightly crossed and her face was dark with anger
Just what I bloody needed, Deckard thought to himself as he approached the small group. The teacher didn't look particularly happy to see him
"Deckard." Ms. Applebottom said in a clipped voice. "I supposed your mother isn't in town."
"No, she isn't. Left this morning." Deckard lied easily. Their mother never wanted to be bothered with their schooling, especially if it was about any antics or shenanigans they got into. "But I can talk if you'd like."
"I shouldn't have to talk to a child about another child's behavior!" She snapped
Deckard bristled. He was hardly a child! He was already fourteen!
"Then let my siblings go and I'll have my mum call you." Deckard said firmly, sending his own glare up at the woman
"And never receive a response?" She hissed. "No, I'll talk to you, at least you can handle these two, now three."
Out of the corner of his eye, Deckard could see all three of his siblings puffing up like angry cats and ready to claw the woman to pieces
"Fine. Lead the way." Deckard gestured to the teacher and grabbed Owen's hand, who squeezed his hand tightly. Glancing over, he held out his other hand for Letty, who was too upset to take it
Making a small train, Deckard led Owen by the hand, who had Hattie's hand, with Letty walking next to Owen. The teacher barely looked back at them as she led them to her classroom
"You three sit there while I talk to your brother. And don't you dare try anything!" Applebottom snarled at the younger Shaws
Deckard instinctively put himself between her and them
Keeping his back straight, Deckard met her gaze evenly. If she wanted at them, she'd have to go through him. She only sneered at him
Following her into the classroom, Deckard sat across from her as she fixed a glare at him
"Where the bloody hell did your mother find that little American?"
"Letty's always been our sister."
"Please," the woman snorted. "She's far to savage to be part of your family! Just listen to the way she speaks! The kind of language and slang she uses! Completely uncivilized."
"She speaks just fine." Deckard said through gritted teeth
"If she continues to speak that way to me, I will have her removed from my class entirely and away from your brother."
Deckard clenched his fist
The only way they had even gotten Letty to agree to go to the school was promising she could be with Owen
"She's still getting used to the city, she needs to be with Owen." Deckard tried to explain
"Then she better learn quickly." Applebottom snapped. "I am not taking her attitude anymore!"
Deckard swore he could feel one of his veins in his forehead pop from how tightly his jaw was clenched
"I'll talk to her." He said roughly
"See that you do." The teacher sniffed. "What was your mother thinking taking in a street urchin like her?"
That was the last straw
Standing too quickly, Deckard knocked over his chair as he seethed at the woman, who stared at him with shocked eyes
"That's my little sister you're talking about!" Deckard hissed and leaned closer. "I don't care if she badmouthed you, but it seems like she needed to so you could get that stick out of your arse!"
The woman gapped at him, speechless
Not giving her time to recover, Deckard stormed out of the room
To almost trip over three small bodies that were crowded around the door eavesdropping
"Come on." Deckard grunted
He held his hand out for Owen's and received it quickly. Glancing over at Letty, he held his hand out for hers again. This time, she didn't hesitate to put hers in his
This time, Hattie was holding onto Letty's hand as Deckard led them out of the school
They were all quiet for the first block when Letty gently tugged on Deckard's hand
"I'm sorry for causing trouble." She mumbled
Deckard sighed and shook his head. Looking down at her apologetic eyes, he smiled
"Dont worry, Oh gets into a lot more trouble than you ever will. We're used to it."
"Yeah!" Owen chirped. "Applebum already hates me!"
Letty giggled at the nickname and Deckard was glad to see the severe look that had been on her face disappear and be replaced with a smile
"Deck?" Hattie spoke up
"Yeah?"
"Can we get ice cream?"
"We have food at home, Hatts." Deckard sighed
"Please? Can we?" Letty begged
"Yeah, Deck! Let's do it!" Owen exclaimed and tugged on Deckard's arm
Rolling his eyes, Deckard steered them down a side street
"Fine." He huffed
But smiled as he heard three cheers of excitement
I hope you enjoyed friend!
