"the jedi don't have therapists-"
jedi philosophy, and in particular the practices and teachings that jedi were expected to implement in their everyday lives, was therapy. dialectical behavior therapy (dbt), to be exact. anyone who's familiar with dbt knows where i'm already going with this, but like genuinely look up the basic tenets of dbt and it's identical with what the jedi were doing.
dbt, to put it simply, is a specific therapy technique that was designed for ptsd and past trauma. it's pretty different from traditional talk therapy. it combines a few different environments (individual, group, etc.), recognizing that no single format of treatment can stand alone.
the key focuses of dbt include:
emotional regulation- understanding, being more aware of, and having more control over your emotions
mindfulness- regulating attention and avoiding anxious fixation on the past or future
interpersonal effectiveness- navigating interpersonal situations
distress tolerance- tolerating distress and crises without spiraling and catastrophizing
i'm sure it's already clear from that list alone how much the jedi teachings correspond with the goals of dbt. the jedi value, teach, and practice the following:
identifying and understanding emotions
mindfulness and living in the present
compassion, diplomacy, and conflict resolution (on interpersonal scales, not just planetary or galactic)
accepting and tolerating certain levels of distress or discomfort (particularly mental, such as discomfort at the thought of losing a loved one to death)
idk man seems almost as if jedi mental health practices and dbt are two sides of a completely identical coin. (fun fact: both star wars and dbt are products of the 70s.)
and guess what? dbt was specifically designed as a treatment for borderline personality disorder. remember that one? or, if you don't, maybe you remember a specific character, the one who was literally used as an example by my professor in my undergrad psych class when she was teaching us about bpd?
tldr: simply existing within the jedi community, practicing jedi teachings, surrounded by a support network of other jedi of all life stages, was the therapy for anakin. even when viewed through a modern lens. it was even, more specifically, the precise type of therapy that has developed in modern times to treat the exact types of mental issues he was struggling with.
Obi-Wan: Sometimes one bored force-wielding teenager is more than you can handle... Luke: Do you mean my father? Obi-Wan: Exactly.
MANDO LUKE!!
Oblivious
Snippet from chapter 2 of Of Bolts and Bucket Hearts
“Mom, this is Din, my sahe’as, my boyfriend.” Luke said.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you.” Padmé said. “Please take good care of my son. He means everything to me.”
“I noticed you speaking huesmic, were you a slave?” Din asked as they walked.
Padmé laughed. “No I was a queen and senator, but I married his father. He, Nia, and Beru taught me.” She said.
Din nearly tripped. Luke, actually tripped, luckily Din managed to grab him just in time to stop him from face planting into the ground. Luke flashed a grateful smile as he steadied himself against Din.
“You were a queen?” Luke asked. “Aunt Ru only mentioned you being a senator.”
“I was elected queen of Naboo when I was four teen. I ran for two terms. The people wanted to vote for me to stay in power for longer, but I refused. It wasn’t how things were done. After that I became a senator.” Padmé explained. “They insisted I keep the name Amidala instead of going back to Naberrie though. If things had been different I would have taken your father’s last name when we married. But, he was a Jedi and forbidden from marrying, so we had to do it in secret.”
She shook her head. “I haven’t been a Naberrie, Amidala, or Skywalker in a very long time though. All of them were too risky to use. When this war is over I’ll go back to my name, but for now call me Veré.” She said.
“Of course mam.” Din said.
“What name will you use?” Luke asked. “Naberrie or Skywalker?”
“I was thinking Naberrie-Skywalker.” Padmé said.
“Padmé Naberrie-Skywalker. I like it.” Luke said.
Din smiled as Luke and Padmé talked. It was good to see the mother and son catching up. It was like they’d only been separated a few months and not eighteen years. Like Luke had simply moved out and come to visit instead of a first meeting.
"Rey is a Palpatine" mostly sucks, but you can't deny those Luke parallels are so good
(ko-fi requests are open!)
@love-life-dead-or-alive kofi requested some Skywalkers apart au with Obi-Wan!!! his job in this au is 90% batting anakin on the head with a newspaper when he angsts
(support me on kofi! -- REQUESTS CLOSED)
Your most recent comic page makes me wonder what a Rey & Luke vs Vader & Palpatine teamup would look like.
Speaking of interesting Togruta facts, they can also purr.

Guys I just posted my first DinLuke story and first story on Ao3. Please go check it out
My Mando Luke design for Of Bolts and Buckets Hearts, plus the crest I made for the Skywalker family. I really wanted to put the twin suns of Tatooine on his armor somehow. This is his pre The Mandolorian series design, in between season 2 and BoBF his armor undergoes a design change involving moving them to the side of his helmet.
The colors of Luke’s outfit have meaning and are as follows
Orange: Lust for life
Red: Honoring a parent
Blue: Reliability
Black: Justice
Green: Duty
White: A new start
This is probably the drawing I’ve posted the most wips about but this time my excuse for posting it is just to reassure yall I am really working on it. It’s just a lot to color. Like so much…
Dealing with brother and boyfriend shenanigans
It's over before it begins.
You're so used to being unloved that you don't know how to be loved. You don't know what it means when he says I love you, his eyes containing galaxies and his pupils contracting. He's the universe and magic and still human, blood running to his cheeks.
You were leaving, and yet you can't break off from the universe, so you cannot really ever leave. The colour of his cheeks is the sun, and you're a planet rotating him.
His hand – human, part machine, all him – reaches to yours.
I am choosing to love you.
It was over before it even begun. His ocean eyes were your home and you drowned and woke up simultaneously.
I adore Tooka Luke with all my heart. He lives rent free in my head with Mando Luke.
nothing but luke as a lil catboyyyy
din: (walking past a merchant stall) din: (doubles back) din: (points) what is that merchant: oh? bantha cheese
din: din: i’ll buy all of it merchant: hohohooo you a fan of bantha dairy? din: no.
Happy Casual Cowboy Friday!
Here’s some more Cowboy Din because everyone (me included) is currently simping for that Western AU
I updated the design of his outfit and added a ‘summer outfit’ version where he isn’t wearing his vest just because I can.
Yes I just wanted to draw him with suspenders.
@keldabekush thank you for starting this. Really. I’m living for Cowboy Din
I’m going with Luke cameo, Din Cameo, Ezra wearing the loth cat graffiti design, Ezra keeps Thrawn’s stolen Lothal art, KallZeb confirmed and for the negativeEzra doesn’t want to go home. It seems the least likely, if anything he’ll wanna go home but feel he has a duty and can’t go just yet.
We are eight days away from Ahsoka, and it has been heavily implied that Ezra's coming back. My comic series, TKT, has always been an AU, but I'm curious to see what of the random things I've tossed into this series actually ends up being confirmed canon. I've made over a hundred comics at this point and multiple fics for the TKT timeline, so there's all sorts of little things that the show could either completely negate or surprisingly confirm.
So what's the game?!
I put together a long list of things that are canon to TKT and assigned each a point value based on 1. how likely it is to occur in Ahsoka and 2. how significant that detail was in TKT. There's also a list of negatives that would break with the canon of TKT.
Please keep in mind, this is not a value judgment or saying that anything on this list would make the show better or worse. This is just seeing how close TKT ends up being to canon.
If you want to play, you select six things from the positive points list and one thing from the negative points list. Send your list to me no later than 8/23. (Once the show is available to stream, I obviously won't be accepting any more submissions.)
You can send your list as an ask or message, leave it as a comment, whatever. I'll let you know I got it, and I'll be storing them all in the same file so I can verify things. Once Season 1 is over you tally up all the points on the positive side from things you guessed would happen and were right about. Then you subtract the points from the negative you chose if that thing ends up happening.
I tried to avoid things that were subjective, but a few of them will be based on opinion, and I'll get the final say on those.
Whoever has the highest score will get a free commission. (Fully colored and rendered, up to three characters, plus a background.)
TLDR; Pick six positives, one negative. If they happen in the show, you get (or lose) points for it. Highest final point total wins art, but you gotta send me your list before the 8/24 premier.
