I might try this someday
This recipe was given to me by a friend awhile ago, and I feel it needs a little more appreciation. Theyโre super easy to make and are tasty too!
I feel one thing a kitchen witch has to master is their ability to make all sorts of bread. Itโs such a staple, and is so versatile. Not to mention how much of a crowd pleaser it is.
This recipe is a tasty bun, that when bitten into, oozes vanilla custard. Whenever I make these, they are gone in the first ten minutes. I tweaked this recipe from one of my good friends who enlightened me on this yummy recipe. I highly recommend you to try these for yourself!
Now in this recipe I will be showing you three fillings that Iโm sure you will love!
- Vanilla Custard
- Chocolate coffee cream
- Brown sugar maple custard
For the Dough
ยฝ cup all-purpose flour
ยฝ cup bread flour
1 cup cake flour
A sprinkle of sea salt
1/3 cup sugar
1 packet of dry yeast
ยฝ cup warm almond milk (Or any type of milk)
2 tbsp heavy cream
1 egg
3 tbsp butter
For the Vanilla Custard
5 tbsp sugar
2 ยฝ tbsp flour
3 egg yolks
1 cup whole milk
1 Tablespoon butter
Vanilla Bean
Vanilla Extractย
For the Chocolate Coffee Cream
6 tbsp sugar
3 tbsp flour
3 egg yolks
ยฝ cup whole milk
1 Tablespoon butter
ยผ cup expresso/ brewed coffee
Milk chocolate/ dark chocolate/ Semi-sweet chocolate (Its up to you)
For the Maple Syrup Custard
5 tbsp brown sugar
3 tbsp maple syrup
2 ยฝ tbsp flour
3 egg yolks
1 cup whole milk
1 Tablespoon butter
To prepare: Set your butter and eggs out 10 minutes before you start so they enough time to come to room temperature.ย
Start by filling a measuring cup with your milk and heat in your microwave for about 20 seconds, or until when you stick a (clean) finger in, it is just warm. If it is too hot, it will kill your yeast mixture. Add your dry yeast in and stir. Let it sit for 10 minutes to bloom.
Next, in a kitchen aid (If you have one) attach the dough hook and mix your flour, salt and sugar together. Now crack an egg into the yeast mixture and add it to the kitchen aid bowl on low speed. Add in warmed cream. Let the dough hook do its magic on medium low speed until the dough is very smooth and elastic.
Add in your butter 1 tablespoon at a time and let it mix until completely smooth. About 4-5 minutes.
Oil a bowl with some neutral oil, or with some butter and place the kneaded dough ball into the bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and place in oven with the light on, or in a warm area.
Leave it to rise for 2 hours, or until doubled in size.ย
Ok, so now poke your dough and let the gas leak out from the dough. Cut it into equal sized pieces and place cling wrap on it and let it rise for another 15 minutes or more.
In the 15 minutes, now is the time to make your custard cream. On high heat, add your milk and butter and let it come to a boil. Then turn down your heat and whisk in sugar, egg, and flour. Add in your additives (Vanilla, maple syrup. etc.) and mix on low heat until it has reached a thick pudding like consistency. About 6-12 minutes. If you are doing chocolate, here is the time to melt your chocolate in, when it is off the heat. Let it cool completely.
With a rolling pin roll out the pieces of dough and place a dollop of custard in the center. Fold them over and press/pinch the sides together. Repeat the process until all of them are like this.
Place them on a tray and wrap cling wrap over them. Let them proof for about an hour, or until theyโve doubled in size again.
Now with a nonstick pan on medium low heat, place the bun in the pan and cover with lid. Cook each side for about 5 minutes, or until it is a nice golden brown. You can also cook this in an oven. 400 F for 8-15 minutes.
Now your done! Enjoy this hot and cold, they are tasty either way. It will be a little crispy when hot and soft when cold.ย
I hope you enjoy this recipe!

So ever since I was little and started growing my own plants, I had an elementary school teacher who taught me this method that would pretty much guarantee that the seeds I planted would sprout. Since Iโm trying to grow some more difficult plants and herbs this year just sticking them in the dirt wouldnโt get them to sprout for me, so Iโve been using this method for even the easier plants to grow and it works great!
First, cut out a little square of paper towel (bleached or unbleached works) and make sure it will fit into a small plastic snack bag (I reuse these!)
Wet the paper towel so itโs slightly damp and arrange the seeds as far apart as you want them to be. Label as you see fit. Place the damp paper towel with the seeds in the plastic bag in a sunny spot.
Once the seeds sprout, very carefully place them in a seed pot with appropriate soil! And youโre done! Thatโs it! The roots will grow through the paper towel and the towel will break down over time :)
I hope this method works for you if you have trouble getting plants to grow! Happy growing!ย โจ๐ฑ
As a kitchen witch, flavor is a very important component in my practice. Certain spells aimed towards particular needs dictate what something should taste like; we know what foods we associate with what need, here I just list what tastes are therefore associated with those particular needs.
There are eight kinds of tastes: sweet, salty, sour, bitter, savory, menthol (ingredients that cause a cooling sensation, such as mint), spicy (ingredients that cause a hot sensation, such as pepper) and dry (ingredients that cause a dry sensation in the mouth, such as certain wines).ย
Anxiety Relief: Sweet, Menthol, Bitter
Banishing: Salty, Bitter, Spicy
Beauty: Sweet, Dry
Calming: Menthol
Cleansing: Sour, Bitter, Menthol, Spicy, Salty
Creativity: Sweet, Savory, Spicy, Dry
Depression: Sweet, Menthol, Dry
Energy: Salty, Savory
Happiness: Sweet, Savory, Spicy
Healing: Sweet, Sour, Spicy, Dry
Love: Sweet, Spicy
Luck: Menthol, Savory, Spicy

things to wear when iโm investigating an abandoned castle thatโs heavily rumoured to be infested with vampires
I was asked recently how to I like to dry my flowers, and my explanation just got longer and longer, so I decided to make it a post. These are my personal methods, but theyโre certainly not unique to me!
Hanging is one of my favorite methods, especially for full-bodied flowers that wonโt press well, like roses or babyโs breath. Hanging works with nearly everything Iโve done it with! Example: roses, lavender, basil.
Itโs super easy! Take your flowers or stems of leafy herbs and cut them so theyโre about the same length. I usually do about a foot, but if you have at least 8-ish inches, it should be good! When cutting from a larger plant, cut diagonally to protect the original plant. If drying flowers, strip off any excess leaves.ย
Then get some twine or rubber bands and bundle them together, like max 7 per bundle, less if you want to play it safe, but it really depends on what youโre drying. Wrap the twine / rubber band once or twice around the end of the bundle that doesnโt have the flowers on it, then once or twice around each individual stem.ย
Hang upside-down in a cool, dry place with decent air circulation. If you care about keeping the colors, hang them in a place away from sunlight, which will bleach out the colors. Check back once every week or so until dry, usually 2-3 weeks.
Pressing is better for flat flowers or individual petals. This is a little too tedious for herbs. If using full flowers, cut as much of the stem off as possible unless itโs really thin. If drying individual petals, just pluck them off the flower.ย
Youโll need a large book or two flat surfaces and something very heavy. Place a few layers of paper towel (preferably without pattern) on one flat surface (or one side of an open book), lay out your flowers / petals in a single later on the paper towel, making sure they donโt overlap, and cover with more paper towel. Then place the other flat surface on top (or close the book). Put some heavy stuff on top. This takes about 2-3 weeks as well. Be careful when opening to check on them as the petals might move around.ย
This is best for herbs that you need soon. You can also do with flower petals, though I donโt like doing it with full-body flowers because they can become flat on whatever side is pressed against the oven tray.ย
Preheat your oven to itโs lowest temperature, usually 250 degrees F. Get an oven tray and cover with a sheet of parchment paper. Strip your herbs (sage, rosemary, thyme, basil) from the stems and lay them out in one layer. Place in the oven for about 30-40 minutes then take them out and give them a stir / flip. Bake for another 30 minutes, or until dry. Leave the oven door cracked open while drying to release moisture.ย
I like to use hung flowers for decorationsโฆ like wall hangings. You can also make potpourri, or burn them as an offering. Thereโs tons of other decorative uses! With flattened ones, I love gluing them into my notebook with a very,ย veryย thin layer of Mod Podge applied on the paper and on top of the petals / flowers. Iโve always wanted to put some in snail mail, but I never send mail. You could also frame them! Oven dried herbs are great for spells, cooking, etc.ย
Make sure to store your dry herbs in an airtight container.ย
I might have to do this someday
Thereโs magic within everyone and everything!
So, I rarely talk about myself because of embarrassment but here it goes...I'm 25, soon to be 26 this week and my mother constantly tells me that she'll have me committed to a mental health institution because I don't have a job and her criticism is making my depression, self worth and self esteem worse. I help out in the house as much as I can but it feels like it's not good enough for her. Before getting sick with an autoimmune disease called acne inversa, I tried going to the military but she told me that I couldn't go because I didn't pass the practice test... thinking about it now, she has halted everything that I wanted to do in life and talking to her about it is impossible because it becomes all about her and how I'm not ambitious enough for anything. I'm just tired of pleasing and trying for her to accept me fully.
I seriously need this in my life
I finally created the perfect rosewaterโฆI canโt wait to use this in a bath and skincare routine. (I also added honey for an extra for softer skin.)
I felt disrespected from the crossfire. I think there were a lot of causalities from this...shame on you both.
