"Betty" words by Taylor Swift

@taylorswift
It's the way there's a Taylor Swift song for literally every ship out there.
Like damn, Elain deserved 10x more than a "Fuck you"
Ok so I’ve gotten a couple asks/ messages about why I still hate Rhys and I mean there are so many reasons...most of which are the same as before ACOSF since his character didn’t change but is just now also someone who hides life altering pregnancy news from a pregnant woman???
But even beyond all of that- a big reason why I’m still an anti is that scene where he warns Nesta to be nice to Gwyn and Cassian calls out a MASSIVE truth- that Rhysand refuses to believe even one decent thing about Nesta. Which is unfair to Nesta, but also made me realize how much more difficult all of this is made for Cassian, and how unfair Rhys’ attitude is to Cassian who never ONCE questioned Feyre.
Why would he have questioned Feyre you ask? Idk how about the fact that when she first came to the Night Court Feyre:
Hated Rhysand
Was only there for a bargain
Was literally about to marry another High Lord
Refused the job that Rhysand offered her in the night court
Didn’t want to stay in the night court
Asks to be taken back to the spring court
And still everyone in the IC is obviously so nice to her because-among other things- she’s Rhysand’s mate and they trust him even if there’s a chance she is a literal actual spy or traitor.
Please now compare that to the scene where Cassian literally tells Rhys to fuck off because he REFUSES TO BELIEVE EVEN ONE DECENT THING ABOUT NESTA.
A woman who:
Has no loyalties outside of the Night Court
Risked her position in the mortal world for the Night Court
Was turned into a Fae for the night court
Trained to repair the wall for the night court
Fought in the war for the night court
SAVED CASSIAN (Rhys’ so called “brother”)’S LIFE
KILLED THE KING OF HYBERN
Still went to the post war strategy meetings
At this point in the book had also already agreed to scry for the Dread Trove even though it’s traumatic as fuck for her FOR THE NIGHT COURT
AND THIS BITCH ASS RICE CAKE CANNOT THINK ONE SINGLE DECENT THING ABOUT HER.
No one even said trust. No one said like.
LITERALLY GIVE HER THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT ONE TIME YOU SELF RIGHTEOUS P R I C K
I will NEVER forgive Rhysand for this, tbh. He only forgave Nesta for her great crimes of *checks notes* not hunting at 15 and then being traumatized after a war... when she saved him, Feyre, and Nyx. Someone who has done as much as Nesta has and suffered as much as she has, despite other failings, should not have to STOP TIME AND SPACE AND SAVE THREE LIVES IN ORDER TO GAIN THE FORGIVENESS OF ONE STUPID STAR BLINKING PRICK.
As an addendum I’ll say- I get that Nesta isn’t perfect. She was mean and has addiction issues that needed to be addressed but you know what those things are super common for? VETERAN PTSD. This world CANNOT go on and on about mental health while literally refusing to allow a main male protagonist to forgive a war veteran unless they save everyone just because they “aren’t nice”
I truly just cannot comprehend how taylor swift's brain works. like who comes up with "your touch brought forth an incandescent glow, tarnished but so grand" and "I'd meet you where the spirit meets the bones, in a faith forgotten land" and "my pain fits in the palm of your freezing hand" and "I wish to know the fatal flaw that makes you long to be magnificently cursed" all in the same song??? wtf??
As tradition has it, true names are a big deal for demons, as knowing their can grant you full control and power over them. I don't know if this is something that holds true in Kingdom of the Wicked, but if it does indeed (I'm sure it does), for Wrath to tell his true name to Emilia would mean the ultimate twig of trust.
I know the name reveal has been teased a lot by Kerri, and that a lot of readers have their own theories as well (I haven't read them yet, because I just finished the book). But... what if it's been implied, what if we already know? What if it's been hidden in plain sight?
Text under the cut contains spoilers from Kingdom of the Wicked.
When Wrath saved Emilia's life after the Viperidae attack, during that mysterious ritual (something really important we still have to discover), it was implied that their minds were connected.
"I’d felt something last night, more intimate than if we’d shared a bed. For one strangely long second, I swore we’d been inside each other’s minds. What I saw there, deep where he couldn’t hide it, wasn’t simple hatred he felt toward me. It was much more complex".
"When I’d found myself inside his head last night, his expression wasn’t one of love, but fear".
Now, if they shared a "mindspace" during the ritual, there are some things that can be explained: Wrath knowing things about her she didn't share, like where she lived, what her favorite flowers are, what food she enjoys... Another pretty interesting detail that didn't escape my mind was the fact that Emilia never told Wrath her own name, and he didn't ask either, content to call her witch. The few times he had called her by her name, it was only after the healing ritual, never before, and it was never addressed how he came to know. Of course, he could have learned of it off-page or he could known because of the summoning magic, but in a world where names have some importance, it is a noticeable detail.
So, if they did see into each other minds, could Emilia have gathered some insight about Wrath without her not being aware of it? We know she saw things that so far are unrelated to her, but in her confused state she couldn't discern what was dream, memory or reality (similar to what happened to Sofia and Claudia). Here are some of the things she saw:
A giant serpent. A deadly fight. Fangs. Blood. My grandmother’s neck, slashed. Drinking something thicker than honey and so saccharine, I had to gag it down. Strange words spoken fervently. A kiss followed by a blinding spark.
Then the nightmares began. Demons screeching, claws scraping, an unfamiliar woman with midnight eyes and fire in her soul, cursing me. A city of fire and ice. An obsidian throne room. A crown forged of flames and smoke. Enormous gates crafted from bone and leathery wings, bursting open. Betrayal.
(Could this also be visions of Wrath's betrayal and her future in Hell?)
After stating these points, what I'm trying to say is that maybe Emilia has an unconscious reckoning of Wrath after that ritual. So, coming back to Wrath's true name: what if Emilia, without realizing, already know it somehow?
I couldn’t very well call him “Wrath.” The demon prince shifted into view. He gave me a slight shake of his head. It was hard to tell if it was a warning to not give his name [...] My friend Samael is visiting and we wanted to light a candle for Vittoria.
Emilia didn't so much as pause or stutter giving that name, it just came easily to her. And the name is actually very interesting (more on that later).
Wrath leaned against the altar and stared at me, one brow arched. It was one of the most human expressions I’d ever seen him wear. “Samael, really? That was the best name you could come up with?”
“He was a prince of Rome and an angel of death. I’d say that sounds pretty fitting [...]"
He strode over to me, stopping at an almost decent space. “Do not ever call me that again. I am no angel, witch. Never make that mistake.”
“You don’t say. And here I was under the impression most humans considered Samael the devil.”
It's interesting to see how "that" and "ever" are highlighted in cursive, like the words are important. And not only that, but Wrath, who is often said to be expresionless save a few times, does actually look human in that moment (it may be unrelated, but I wonder if it is a sign of surprise or vulnerability). Then, he warns Emilia to never call him that, stating his desire to not be compared to an angel. Wouldn't it be fitting that a ruling demon prince, who is probably a fallen angel and now goes by his sin name, is furious about someone calling him by his angelic name after who knows how long? Again, all of this could be just a coincidence and be unrelated, but it struck me as odd.
To further my reasoning, we also have the mark Wrath put on Emilia's neck. Since the moment it happened and for an unknown reason, I couldn't shake the feeling that the S was the first initial of Wrath's true name.
At some point, I thought his tongue flicked over my jugular, tracing an invisible S along my skin.
The S could be just the shape of a snake, but it just adds on.
So, could Samael be Wrath's true name? Let's take a look at the name and the figure behind it.
Samael was an archangel and, later, a fallen angel. He was part of God's army, the group of angels "trained" in military skills to fight his wars, his heavenly duties sometimes consisting in destruction.
In some lore, his role is/was that of the Angel of Death.
Samael was one of the rebellious angels, and was sometimes considered to be neither good nor evil.
He is often identified as "Melkira", King of the Wicked.
He is heavily linked to the myth of the Garden of Eden and the fall of Adam and Eve. He was the one who planted the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil (which is the embodiment of wisdom, free choice and wielding power), which granted him God's fury and his banishment from Heaven. As revenge, he took the form of a serpent to tempt Adam and Eve into sin.
Samael is also associated with the title/name of Satan (Samael being the "true name" of Satan himself), and in some versions he fulfills that role as chief of the fallen angels and leader of satans. In some kabbalistic works, he is the Prince of all demons.
Satan is the most used name for the prince of hell related to the sin of Wrath.
Regarding romantic aspects, he is also linked to Lilith (who's also related to snakes), who became his spouse, and the two of them were said to parallel Adam and Eve as counterparts in Hell. With her, he is said to have fathered multiple demons. In other versions, him and Eve had an affair, which resulted in the birth of Cain (though he is mostly referenced as Adam and Eve's firstborn).
All of this fits Wrath in one way or another. We have the warrior fallen angel vibe, the snake symbolism, his conviction of him and the princes not being good or evil, the Angel of Death reference (that unnerves me a little because of what Fratello Antonio said, but same could be said of other beings), his importance in Hell, the power of free will motivating all his actions and a possible foreshadowing of him being the King of the Wicked (along Emilia).
Now, it's possible that Samael could be his true name, or maybe it's actuallly the other side of the coin, Satan. Either way, Samael and Satan were one and the same in a lot of versions, so my bets are on Wrath's name being one or the other.
Whatever it may be, my point is mainly centered on Emilia having figured it out without realizing it, and how the implications of the name play a part into the story (some of which we have already seen, but others we haven't yet).
It is conflicting though, because both Wrath and Pride (as well as Satan/Lucifer and the Devil concept) share similar imagery, to the point of asking myself if their storylines are going to be somewhat mixed, or who of the two have the right to rule Hell.
Obviously, I'm all for Wrath prooving all these points and defeating Pride if it comes to that. Especially if he fulfills the part of King of the Wicked along Emilia as his ruling Queen 💕
I've said it before and I'm going to say it again -
A LOT OF YA WRITERS NEED TO TAKE A PAGE FROM THE "KERRI MENISCALCO BOOK OF MALE CHARACTERS" AND LEARN HOW TO WRITE DARK, MYSTERIOUS AND YET NON-TOXIC MALE LEADS.
YOU CAN BE COLD WITHOUT BEING A COMPLETE JERK AND THERE CAN BE BANTER WITHOUT MAKING REMARKS ABOUT HOW YOU WANT TO RAIL THE FEMALE PROTAGONIST.
YOUR MALE LEAD CAN HAVE SEXUAL THOUGHTS ABOUT THE FEMALE LEAD WITHOUT SOUNDING LIKE A PREDATOR.
Hell, even mephistopheles was a shit ton better than a lot of male protagonists we have and he was the manipulative one.
I did a thing 👀
Anyway, I'm planning to animate the whole thing but since I didn't post last week I decided to post this wip ig
Hope you like it

Then vs now.
I will never understand how someone can finish a book, like it and then just go on living. I have to go look for all of the fan art and fanfiction that has ever been published. Do deep character analysis, see what other people think of it, and basically just scroll down the book’s tumblr tag for HOURS looking at everything that’s already been discussed about it then imerse myself in the fandom so much it will consume my every thought for at least the coming week.

Rorochan92 Hey Cassie, I read about people being concerned that Jesse and Lucie are cousins. Are they cousins? I can’t figure it out. Also, if James and Cordelia get married, and if they have kids, how come Jace doesn’t know he’s related to the Carstairs when he meets Emma? Why don’t they talk about it more?
Ok! Let’s tackle this in two parts.
Jesse and Lucie: I … think that must have been a misunderstanding? They are not in any way related. Jesse’s uncle is Gabriel Lightwood. Gabriel Lightwood is married to Cecily Herondale, who is Lucie’s aunt. The only way they’d be related would be if Cecily and Gabriel were related, which they are not. Jesse and Lucie are distantly connected by marriage, which is not weird, especially in a smaller community like the Shadowhunters who are a tiny fraction of people on the planet. She is likely just as related to Matthew or more so (i.e. not much.)
(And before there is too much pearl-clutching about that, this kind of reminds me of people in my box fretting about whether Kit and Ty would be related if Jesse and Lucie ended up together. They would not be in any meaningful way. Those ancestors are far enough back that they would be considered by any geneticist to be unrelated, and by Shadowhunter terms, they’d be practically total strangers. It’s already a small community, good luck finding someone who doesn’t share some common ancestor with you. (I am Ashkenazi Jewish ( a group which comprises 0.2% of people on the planet): the assumption is that if I meet another Ashkenazi Jew, they’re my tenth cousin. Which is to say, we share some common ancestor way back but are not related. Let me put it this way: whether or not Lucie and Jesse end up together, whether or not the present-day Blackthorns are descended from Jesse’s branch of the Blackthorns at all, Kit and Ty will be the same amount of related, which is: not.)
Another rule of thumb is that “it is 99.9999% likely … that any given person you meet is at least a 16th cousin. And 97.2% likely that they are a 15th cousin” — and that’s the general population, not a smaller community like Shadowhunters, or Ashkenazi. It is not something that concerns me, nor should it you! There is a reason no soap opera plot turns on the discovery that someone is your fifteenth cousin. They are essentially unrelated to you. This is like freaking out that Magnus and Alec have a common ancestor. I guarantee they do. We all do. As the LA Times says, “Everyone is related to everyone else.”
Nobody in these books is marrying a first or even second cousin, though I would point out that’s exactly what Elizabeth is meant to be doing in Pride and Prejudice, with Mr. Collins, and exactly what Mr. Darcy is supposed to be doing with Anne de Burgh, and exactly what Edmund and Fanny do in Mansfield Park (they’re first cousins.) This was considered a way to keep wealth in the family, and was most common of course in royal families, which should provide some pearl-clutching historicity fun. :)
As for Jace — I mean, no, I would think of it as very bizarre if the people in the TMI/TDA era made a big deal about having distant common ancestors. Okay, so if Jace is descended from Cordelia, then she is one of sixteen great-great grandparents that he has. She is one of far, far more ancestors: literally hundreds. I think people may be compressing time in their heads and not thinking about the exponential growth of generations. Cordelia is one thirty-second of Jace’s genetic makeup, if they are related at all.
Also, not only does Jace barely know who Stephen and Marcus (his grandfather) are, he has no reason to memorize his family tree. Why on earth would he? I don’t know who any of my great-great grandparents are. I know the name of exactly one great-grandparent. I’ m not sure why Jace, who feels no great connection to the Herondales, would be researching this stuff? And memorizing it? And apparently caring more about someone removed from him by five generations that he cares about, say, his grandmother’s relatives? Why is no one complaining that he isn’t tracking down the Whitelaws or the Montclaires? (He doesn’t care to, but they’re all more closely related to him than the Carstairs.)
The answer to that is: because readers have read the books, and to them the Herondales and Carstairs are significant names, and those names have a connection. But the characters have not read the books. It would be as bizarre for Jace to go lunging at every Carstairs he might meet as it would be for Alec to weep all over the Monteverdes. Jace is not closely enough related to Emma for him to think of her as a relative regardless of whether James and Cordelia end up together or not.
We have to remember: these characters do not know that there have been previous book series in which names like Lightwood and Blackthorn are important. When Jace finds out he’s a Herondale he doesn’t leap on Alec either exclaiming that now they are related or something because a hundred and fifty years ago they had ancestors who got married. They’re not related, and neither of them would likely know about those marriages. To us, these characters are important: to Jace and Clary et al they can’t be without destroying a sense of verisimilitude that these are real people with real people concerns, not book people whose concerns are about other book series.
Light it up Danikaaa!!! I’m so in love with this friendship. Excuse me whilst I cry.
