Hey guys, I know I don’t post much in this blog anymore and I am not exactly sure who will see this but I’m posting this because today is the Philippine Presidential Elections and, just like what other people here are already saying, we’re fighting for our lives right now.

We are fighting against the return of dictatorship in the country. We are fighting against the continuation of corruption and injustice. We are fighting for a better future. We are fighting, so that we may finally know peace.

Today, multiple issues regarding the elections have come up. Vote-Counting Machines (VCMs) “malfunctioning”, SD cards missing, people getting PAID for voting for the dictator’s son and his party, and more. Even the commission in charge of ENSURING FAIR ELECTIONS is failing to fully understand the grasp said issues, wasting people’s time and votes.

If you do find this post and read it, all I ask is that you share the news about the Philippines. Anything about today (May 9, 2022), about Halalan 2022/PH Elections 2022, about BBM and the Marcos Family, about Leni Robredo, Kiko Pangilinan, Chel Diokno and the rest of Robredo’s senatorial slate (+ Neri Colmenares),

and if this inspires you to learn everything else, then please do.

We are asking for your help, not in votes, but in sharing what is happening here to the rest of the world. Whatever happens, whatever the results are, we want the whole world to see what is going on. (But thank you to the foreign news outlets who have been speaking on this).

All the Filipinos are asking for is a fair government, where lives are recognized and uplifted. We cannot be kept in the dark again, we have had enough.

And if we need to meet in EDSA once again, then so be it.

More than 500,000 people have already left Ukraine due to the invasion by the Russian Federation. The European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management estimates that roughly 18 million Ukrainians will be affected by the conflict in humanitarian terms, with 7 million internally displaced and 4 million seeking refuge elsewhere. To help those still in Ukraine, as well as Ukrainian refugees, we’ve compiled this list of resources.

an author i love just tweeted about how “big joy and small joy are the same” and how she was just as content the other night eating chocolate and cuddling her dog as she was on her Big Trip to new york and honestly. i think that’s it. this morning i was listening to an audiobook while baking shortbread in my joggers and i realised i really didn’t care what Big Things happened in my future as long as i could keep baking and reading at the weekend and maybe that is the kind of bar we have to set to guard ourselves against disappointment. just appreciate and cherish the mundane stuff and see everything else as a bonus.

A rather late submission for Newsiestober Day 29 (Magic)

I understand canonically, David would be in Ilvermorny, but in this one... He won a scholarship to Hogwarts and got sorted into Ravenclaw.

I can see him in Gryffindor or Hufflepuff but I’m being biased towards Ravenclaw because that’s my house and I’d LOVE to have Davey as a housemate.

I hope you don’t mind if I ask a question about a nearly obscure newsboy but I’m curious to know if you have any more info in regards to Emil Kahune, one of the strikers. Why was he so beloved? Did he ever get released from the Gerry society?

Unfortunately I don’t know much about what became of Emil Kahune/H. H. Keuhn. However, these are a few articles that mention him:

From The New York Herald, July 21:

Emil Kahune, a striker, who refused to give his address, was arrested and taken to the West Thirtieth street police station. A crowd of newsboys followed him, cheering him lustily all the way. At the police station the youngsters carried him large quantities of candy and fruit, and when he was led away to the rooms of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children his mouth was full of delicacies.

From The Sun, July 21:

Milo Green, a 15-year-old newsboy, tried to sell Journals and Worlds in the doorway of the uptown office of the World last evening. The strikers gathered across the street and threatened him vocally until a woman came along and tried to buy a paper of him. The strikers swept across the street, then snatched the paper from the woman’s hands and tore it to pieces. Then one of them, Emil Kahune, jumped on Green.

Hugh Coleman, a lawyer, dropped off a Broadway car at this stage of the fight, took Kahune over his knee and spanked him soundly. The rest of the mob assaulted Coleman until a policeman came to his aid and arrested Kahune.

H. H. Kuehn, a striking newsboy, fifteen years old, was arrested last night for tearing up some newspapers belonging to another boy at Thirty-fourth Street and Sixth Avenue. At the West Thirtieth Street Station House he refused to give his address. Before the Gerry Society agent arrived a number of the prisoner’s comrades went to the station house with large quantities of fruit and candy for him. When Kuehn was taken to the Gerry society headquarters a large number of the boys followed him.
