just attempted to vaguely explain my oc lore to my friend and i think it broke his brain a little. like "yea so my character who was set on fire as a baby—" "YOUR WHAT" "the one named after the chess piece, keep up."

having ocs is such a weird experience. what do you mean that me and 3 of my friends are the only ones that care about the little guy in my head? what do you mean that other people can listen to die young by Kesha without crying thinking about my little guy? I'll see a post and go "wow I should show this to [oc]" and remember shes a literal figment of my imagination.

Writing original fiction is a lot like writing fan fiction, except instead of reading someone else's work and thinking "that character would not fuckin do that" you're reading and judging your own work, and thinking "this character would not fuckin do that", because they're your characters, who have gone off and started misbehaving.
