lan jingyi: a mood
Alright my dudes, I think this is going to be an unpopular opinion, but here is my two cents on Mil after episode 10.
Look, I kind of believe him about Sarawat’s leg, or at least he regrets it, he may have not in the moment, and I think this is because he does have an attachment to Phukong already established, but his image is now tarnished, because of the horrible things he did and said about Sarawat. Let me break it down a sec.
The entire episode he tries to keep his distance from Phukong, obviously what Phukong said and did left an impression on him
Okay, I must admit the first scene he was in has thrown me off a little bit, but it still fits in with how I interpret what he is thinking, and that is that he is regretful, and doesn’t like the image of himself either internally or to Phukong.
So, if this is correct, it explains why he goes and confronts those assholes
But what got me was his temper.
This kind of reaction isn’t one you give to friends, or about something you were happy about having. I have thought before that he seems to feel things in extremes, I mean this dude stood up at the sight of Tine because he felt so overwhelmed.
Anyways…
So I find it interesting that these punks felt the need to assure him that they didn’t intend to do anything more. Considering how relentless they were in beating up Sarawat, despite him not putting up anything of the fight.
What is also important to note is that Mil is not wise to Tine being hurt, only over the fact that he is regretful over hurting Sarawat, and that they shouldn’t have beaten up Sarawat and ganged up on him.
He certainly has an attachment to Phukong otherwise he wouldn’t have kept his distance, treated him, or have this interaction with Jae Tun
It’s the fact that he said “he hates me”- it’s his perception because of what Phukong did and said
But, to have this interaction alone, saying what he does with those expressions means that he is concerned about the image that Phukong has of himself, and he knows that that person looks so bad, and he doesn’t like that.
I’m sorry these screenshots are so bad…
This gets him thinking, and he probably does know that Phukong is interested in him because of the way that Phukong was with him…
I also think that Phukong was mad about both things… it’s pretty low to not be affected about his brother getting injured.
But after this interaction and taking his leave from Phukong, he also leaves his treat for Phukong
Then later we get this interaction
That line seems self-deprecating… he doesn’t answer, instead he answers vaguely.
And he honestly looks tired (again, these screenshots are hardly flattering). He is literally saying to put it in the past, and his expressions indicate that he is regretful of it happening in the first place
Then we get this moment… and I think this is just enforcing what I tried to say at the beginning; he is putting distance between Phukong and himself
If he sussed that Phukong likes him (which I believe he does) it makes sense to hurt him in this way to get distance between them, the thing is, this is not because he doesn’t like him; I actually think it’s the opposite
First off the framing for this scene was too pivotal for it not to be meaningful for the both of them
And this guy literally decides that he needs to give Phukong something of his to remember him by…
But, you don’t hold it in his hands like that if you don’t care??
Then also says something along the lines of remember me when you do your exams
but these expressions… He is letting him go and it’s clearly something that he doesn’t want to have to do.
Now the reason for this could be because he has some kind of role model complex, but this doesn’t work considering he only tutored Phukong after Phukong did that bet.
It could be because he doesn’t want to hurt Phukong because he doesn’t feel the same way, don’t believe this is true because of said expressions
It could be because he hates himself for what he said and did to Sarawat and feels that he has hurt Phukong enough and doesn’t deserve to have his adoration. This, I feel is the answer.
This is not only for breaking Sarawat’s leg, I think this is also all the things he said about Sarawat
So I was very intrigued to see that he seemed to develop some dimension this episode…
He is obviously not forgiven, the thing that will make me believe that he has progressed would be to apologise… to Sarawat and Phukong, and Tine to be perfectly honest, and now next week he looks like he has gone straight back to how he was?
Look, Mil has actually shown to be caring by helping Tine from fainting (it seemed genuine, to a degree) and then also offering the food to Phukong in ep 4 and also in this episode (10), so he remains an enigma to me, but I thought it was interesting, but he seems to have put things behind him, rather than actually tackle it and change.

You ever just stop and think about how much the cloud recesses trio changed from their youthful days. They went from the three boys who constantly broke rules for fun to eventually grow up and become the yiling patriarch, the sandu shengshou, the head-shaker. Each more terrifying then the other.
The accomplishments the three of them made are extraordinary and the villainous acts they have done are horrifying. Wei Wuxian who created a whole new brand of cultivation by himself but also murdered thousands of people. Jiang Cheng who built his sect from the ashes it became after the loss of entire family but also tortured and killed many demonic cultivators. Nie Huaisang who avenged his brother, defeating a person who destroyed the lives of many people but also manipulated & deceived the whole world and it is implied that he took advantage of a lot of people to fulfil his goal.
The saddest thing is they all become who they are now from the loss of loved ones. Especially the loss of a sibling which had a HUGE lasting impact on each of them. Jiang Yanli’s death made Wei Wuxian lose his very sanity. Wei Wuxian’s death along with Jiang Yanli’s left Jiang Cheng alone in grief with nothing but anger to cover it up. Nie Mingjue’s death left Huaisang with using his Intelligence in very callous ways for the sake of avenging him.
The unjustified deaths of their siblings changed the very core who they used to be. Wei Wuxian who was bright and hopeful lost his very will to live. Jiang Cheng who once sought for a life next to his siblings now rules an entire sect alone in loneliness. Nie Huaisang who preferred to live in peacefullness gave up that very peace he cherished for revenge.
And to think that they once used to be just some carefree teenage boys who sneaked in alcohol into cloud recesses to get drunk, sneaked in porn to read and tease their classmates on, cheated on tests and ending up getting caught, gossiped and talked about the type of romantic partners they wanted, went hunting for a chicken just because why not. They were just happy and carefree boys who ended up losing too much, too young.

Can you believe that Gaya Sa Pelikula talked about so many lgbt+ related issues as openly as it did?
Can you believe that it gave a lesson about euphemisms and how it is not shameful saying the word gay out loud? Can you believe it talked about allyship and how it’s not always done right, but that if people are willing to listen to lgbt+ people and are open to learn it is valuable? When was the last time you saw a show saying microaggression? And especially, related to how people assume that passing privilege is a good thing and shame more feminine lgbt+ people. When was the last time you heard that “you don’t look gay” is NOT a compliment as explicitly as gsp did? Can you believe it also talked about how Vlad devalued those little mundane romantic things like prom because as lgbt+ we feel those are still out of reach for us because of the hateful societies we live in? But then immidiately showed us that we can have those experiences as lgbt+ people. Can you believe how they also highlighted that coming out feels like coming home, or all the talk about Boca del Cielo which is a place that doesn’t feel real but in the end it is found, and how the show values finally being able to express yourself as lgbt+ as something to celebrate and dance to? Something freeing and beautiful?
