Took me until about halfway through college before I realized “study” means “play with the material in a variety of ways until you understand it” and not just “read the assigned chapters and do the homework” and I think that probably should have been discussed at some point prior to that.

Today I spent a few hours in the library and made some notes for my thesis defense. They sent me an email this morning and told me to go do it on Monday, so I'm feeling kind of nervous. A friend has told me she wants to listen to me practice tomorrow and that she will try her best to ask mean questions to prepare me (my kind of friend).
I think I haven't said this before, but my thesis is on contemporary theatre, which is what I'm most interested in pursuing when I think about a career in academia.
On another note, I spent the whole morning listening to Chopin and I really like it :). I figured getting into classical music one musician at a time would be easier.
Tomorrow the application period for masters programs is also starting, which I'm not chill about at all. It will be tomorrow when I know if the program I'm interested in has any space for me to enroll. Anyway, I sort of manifested it too hard this past month for it to be any other way, right? ...right?
I want this displayed on my room, the entire wall tbh

🎧song of the day: A&W - Lana Del Rey
Today was a chill day as well, I spent the morning doing some chores and then I started doing some marketing analysis for one of my classes, then I decided to plan my week and deadlines while listening to music
The SS Warrimoo, a passenger steamship traveling from Vancouver to Australia, was silently knifing its way across the mid-Pacific waters. The navigator had just finished calculating a star fix and handed the results to Captain John DS. Phillips.
The Warrimoo's coordinates were LAT 0º 31' N, LONG 179 30' W. The date was December 31, 1899. "Know what this means?" First Mate Payton announced, "We're only a few miles from the intersection of the Equator and the International Date Line."
Captain Phillips was prankish enough to seize the opportunity to do the nautical feat of a lifetime. He summoned his navigators to the bridge to double-check the ship's position. He altered his course slightly to focus directly on his target. He then altered the engine's speed.
The calm weather and clear night worked to his advantage. At midnight, the SS Warrimoo rested on the Equator, exactly where it had crossed the International Date Line. The ramifications of this odd arrangement were numerous.
The ship's bow was in the Southern Hemisphere, in the middle of summer. The stern was in the Northern Hemisphere, in the midst of winter. The date on the aft portion of the ship was December 31, 1899. The date on the forward half of the ship was January 1, 1900. The ship experienced multiple days, months, years, seasons, and centuries simultaneously.
Sherlock, on his phone at 2 a.m: Wow, a woman in Gloucestershire strangled her husband to death. Can you imagine just snapping like that?
John, trying to sleep next to him: Yes
