they have absolutely recited the entire avatar intro together at least once, especially after they tell tad about the elementals.

I like to think that if/when Eli and Tad have to duel, they always delve as deeply into being incomprehensible to terrans as possible by speaking in quotes from the surface

E.g.

Tad: “[sigh] I miss my wife Eli. I’ll be back”

Or

Eli: “did you know you have rights? The constitution says you do”

Or just the whole “buying clothes at the soup store” argument

Note: they have both mutually agreed to never actually give away info on the sun or the sky or the surface in general. This started entirely as a slip up from Tad that Eli just doubled down on. It started out with one quote per duel until months down the line they’re both simultaneously recounting the entire eggman announcement (minus the moon) word for word in perfect harmony

SNAPCUBE!

An individual of culture i see-

Honestly Anon, best take on Eli and Tad ever-

Eli, for an entire year, has and no one to meme with till Tad showed up, and it's absolutely hilarious for the two of them, and hella confusing for everyone else!

Also the agreement on staying nothing about the Sky is amazing because they're going to have to fill it in with something different and leads to outlandish statements lmao

yesssss! also keep in mind that, like alot of times they do things in the show, its because 1) the calls are in remote areas that wouldn't be under jurisdiction of a cavern authority, or 2) (the big one) the cavern authorities can't do it/can't be trusted to do it. Think every time w blakk, or the game master, or Munch and CC respectively who scared off all the locals, or Futuria cavern, where quentin possessed new tech they couldn't beat; and even in the later era, and in the east, they fought off general bad actions, but especially those that were evil on their power level (dai fu, emperor, goon, the crystal monster, and so on). they're like, special operations/the rebels against the evil political force lmaoooo

aaaaaaaand, if you ever need a historical reference for how law is kept in this lawless outlands, look up stuff about the american wild west. It think theres alot of great comparisons with how small towns/counties operated in the 19th/early 20th century to how the caverns do in slugterra.

thanks for mentioning me i feel so famous :)

i always wondered, shane gang but a murder mystery? i mean, there is alota crime realistically people could be dying, if not them, who handles that?

:O

This was actually rambled about briefly before, and I'm kinda exploring it is a fic I'm working on rn,

But i think the general idea is that each individual Cavern Authorities deals with it.

If the Shane Gang where to happen on the crime, either the aftermath or as it's activity happening depending on the crime the outcome would be different as to how it's dealt with.

Petty theft? Don't worry! Shane Gang is on it!

Kidnapping? Depending on the situation, they would work with the Cavern Authorities or be on standby if needed, though unlikely.

Murder??? report what they know and offer assistance in dealing with the case until they are no longer needed or have to move on to the next mission. But still keeps tabs on it.

Serious offenders being shipped off to Stalagmite 17

Ultimately though, it's heads or tails, remember the Unbeatable Master was technically murdered by Blakk and he faced no legal repercussions for that.

The Caverns, as my good friend mrros-e would say, is a lawless outlands.

Each settlement has its own rules and regulations that are enforced to various degrees by those in charge.

So the Gang can take down a murderer, but it would ultimately be up to the Caverns legal system and Authorities to deal with the aftermath.

you know, i've been saying eli and the gang make their money/living by being slugnet influencers, plus kord's actual job as a field tech...I think Kord's family could be helping out too. Like, sending money when things get tight, and maybe being part of the reason why the Gang eat so many snacks on screen in the hideout. Not to mention, their supplies could have been a major godsend in the Bandoleer of Brothers era where the Shane Gang could barely even move across Slugterra safely.

Also, how does this translate to when Junjie comes into play? Are they just like "omfg A SECOND CHILD TRYING TO BE AN ADULT???" and they send him books on Western Cavern culture and spirituality and slinging history and also more treats and a little money because he's gotta make a living somehow in the West while trapped and he has nothing to his name??? like. Damn. these peeps should be important side characters!!!

Seeing your last post how much you want to bet Kords family( even if we never got to know or see them) would try to adopt Eli,Trixxe, and maybe pronto ( might be a little stretched)

Because I feel Kord would go on and on about his teammates whenever he got a chance to contact his family and seeing that makes them feel happy knowing their son/brother is doing well.

What do you think?🤔

Honestly, I think the chances are pretty high, especially for Eli.

Like imagine

"Hey ma, pa, sorry for not calling,"

"No worries Kord, we saw the news"

"So it's true, your out slinging with Will Shane's son!"

"Yeah, yeah! Trying to take down Blakk and all that"

"What's Eli Shane like son?"

"Oh, uh he's a good kid, little odd, but that's given for a Shane."

"How is he?"

"What?"

"Kord Zane! That boys father is dead and he's stepping into the man's shoes to try and fill them! Did you seriously not ask if he was okay? Or offer your condolences???"

"IM SORRY!"

"That's it! What's the address of this Hideout? I'm sending that boy a care package!"

Trixie is just happy to be there, talking with Kords mom and dad, they remind her of her own

While Eli is just trying not feel like he's intruding. Boys got major mommy and daddy issues. And he does not want to project but after a hot minute he relaxes.

I would like to think Kords parents send the gang individual care packages every few weeks.

Pronto would probably get the weird uncle/family friend treatment tbh

one of my first takes on tumblr was "kord knows CPR" and im so glad we circled back around to that again

Besides doc being able to heal them, if doc is not present who would be likely to have the most experience medically? Like doc has to have limits too cause he couldn't heal the master it seems

Kord would probably be the most experienced medical wise, and then it's Pronto then is Trixie and then Eli with the least medical experience once to take away Doc. But not my much

Kord, and every other Cave Troll typical end up working with machine's. While Cave Tolls have thick skin, I would imagine they still have safety protocols in place, and expect you to know about bit more than first aid, especially if any other resident of the Caverns that isn't a Cave Troll is involved. They are very aware not everyone is as durable as they are, and want to make sure they are prepared in case of an emergency. I wouldn't say Kord has like, 'doctor' level training, but he would count as a civilian medical aid, by that i mean, he is training to provide assistance in medical situations to the best of his ability so long as consent is provide by the patient.

Pronto is the king of Molemound and the tracker of the team, I would expect him to know some basics, and have knowledge on plants that are both harmful and beneficial.

Trixie is a Slinger, and knows basic first aid same with Eli, but she has more experienced than him simply because she's been Slinging longer than he has.

I would assume when Doc became a Gardian Slug and temporary left the team, everyone picked up medical training and are good with it to various degrees as there are different types of first aid training you can get, I should know, i did Emergency First Aid, CPR-AED-C training.

I'm not expected to know how to stich someone up, but I can help someone going through an OD or heart attack, and bandag wounds to help slow down bleeding till first responders arrive.

But yeah, I would think Kord has the most experience with medical stuff

okay so i know NOTHING about how illnesses work. However, would the Shane family's genetics probably stemming from both slugterran and surface humans effect disease tolerance? for all we know, maybe his genetic make-up from both slugterrans and surface beings in his bloodline make him resilient to certain stuff we'd consider potentially harmful to him.

not to mention - eli hasn't been walled from slugterra bacteria his whole life. Will went back and forth, and his slugs did, too! Maybe Eli got all the slugterra sicknesses on the surface when he was a kid and Will and Jimmo had to come up with clever excuses to doctors to not let the secret out.

Quickly circling back to the one post about Eli having to go to the Doctor

I just remembered a fun fact about diseases.

(That you weird obsession with the Medieval Era)

Eli Shane, should be getting sick.

Even if he's up to date with his shots from the surface, unless Will snuck vaccines for any diseases for Slugterra, Eli should be contracting some kind of illness exclusive to the Caverns.

On top of that, Eli also poses a risk to the 99 Caverns as well because, Chicken Pox, Polio, mumps- hell the common flu from the surface would wreck havoc on the Vitamin D deficient residents of the Caverns.

And this isn't covering, like potential allergies exclusive to Slugterra. I bet you there is at least one person who is allergic to slug's, or a specific kind of slug.

So with that context in mind,

While at the Doctors, they do a quick allergy test and, turns out, Eli is allergic to the vines/plants made by Vindrill Slugs, and a very specific deep Sea Cavern fish.

Shane Colony Headcannons #4: Back to Brain Rot [Edition]

☆ Part 1 ☆ Part 2 ☆ Part 3 ☆

To clarify, the Shane Colony is what I've taken to calling the Slugs that live at the Hideout.

And yes, this was inspired by a comment on part 3, by the lovely loveart14

Also, preemptive thank you to the SlugTerra Section of the FandomWiki for all the names of the slugs I was able to use

-

I've mentioned this before, but Burpy is the defacto pack leader of the Shane Colony, followed by Doc, then by Stinky

Why Stinky? Simple, he and the rest of Prontos slugs have technically been apart of the Shane Colony the longest

Movie nights without their Slingers

Movie nights with their Slingers

All reasoning be damned, the next time Burpy sees Will Shane, it's on sight

In fact, the next time any of the Shane Colony see Will Shane, it's on sight

There are a bunch of hides and hangout spots around the Hideout, both inside and out

Makes for a killer game of hide and seek for the Slugs

'Court trials' are a spectacle

For starters, they have a whole mini court set up, gavel and all

Sometimes the Shane Gang watch and are completely dramatic about it. Like gasps and everything

Trixie has recorded trials, and edited the video like a Judge Judy episode to post on the SlugNet

The Slugs have pranked their Slingers, but sometimes it leads to an all out prank war between the Slingers because they didn't realize it was the Slugs

Doc is the mom friend

Burpy is the dad friend

Because of nesting habits, the high nesting slugs, like Granukers, Hoverbugs, and Arachnet's, tend to drop things from their high perches.

There is a cupboard filled with treats, and it's under lock and key, fortified like Fourt Nox

There have been many attempts to break in

Joules, Spinner, Buzzsaw, and Lerry were really close to getting in one night until Eli caught them.

Noodle, despite being a Flopper, is well loved :) he can no wrong and when he does, he blames Stunts, and no one questions it.

Mo is a dumb little thing, but Lerry and Suds have taken to teaching him things

Mo is a surprising fast learner, he's just uncoordinated because he's constantly seeing triple thanks to his Aura Sight

Dozer has purposefully triggered his Velocimorph inside the Hideout. His Slinger and his friends need to sleep damn it

After the 'Lightwell' all the slugs where extra carful with Burpy, much to his annoyance

speaking of the 'Lightwell' the Shane Gang was extra attentive to all their slugs, keeping their eyes pealed for any signs of their light going dim

Beeker has put out one to many fires that Burpy, Burner, and any of the other fire slugs have started

Beeker now charges extra Slug Pellets at meal time as compensation

Glimmer had flash banged people on accident and on purpose.

They play high stakes hot potato with Rookies exploding balls

The Slugs activity gamble

Eli can and will spend most of gold on his Slugs before he spends anything on himself

All the Slug's have their own preferences when it come's to entertainment

some of its weird

Bludgeon, Kord's Rammstone, its surprisingly really good at art

When Junjie's slug's joined the Shane Colony they have a horror movie night

it goes as well as you would expect

Joo-Joo actually cried after being cured from his Ghouled state

this is because, he was semi-conscious through the 20 years Junjie was forced to be the Dark Slinger, and having been with Junjie's family for so long, the poor little guy was so distressed by what was happening, Joo-Joo felt helpless. So seeing his Slinger, his Partner, his Person finally free, on top of no longer being Ghouled brakes the normally composed Slug and Joo-Joo just sobs

Yin(the Slicksilver from SFS) is baby

Torch sleeps in the oven, it gives Pronto a heart attack every single time until he remembers the Slug is a Forgesmelter

First Rule about Shane Colony Fight Club: You don't squeak about Fight Club

Doc is done with everyslug's shit when it comes to Fight Club

'You wanna brawl? fine, but don't expect me to do anything about it' [Translated from Slug]

Trixie's slugs are surprisingly the most tame when compared to the guys,

and yes, this includes Junjie's slugs because those little guys have no chill

Junjie's slugs can brew tea

Kord's slugs know how to sabotage a Mecha

Pronto's slugs, when motivated, can run a mullite million gold marketing scheme - don't ask how, they just do

Trixie's slugs know how to work a camera, and video editing software, they have made, hundreds of videos they post on their own SlugNet account

Burpy will never admit this to his fellow slugs, or even Eli for that matter, but, he actually used to like Thaddius Blakk, like before he went off the deep end.

Blakk used to be a good slinger, and the Infernus could over look some of the questionable things Blakk did. but at some point, Burpy just couldn't anymore. this is a secret Burpy will take to his grave.

OOOOO, THE EAST! I was only thinking about the West, ur so right!!! I wish they went back to the East, though I understand the show's never been too big about dedicating episodes to culture alone (unless plot relevant).

Especially since the Eastern Caverns don't have a Shane-like figure that could upkeep some surface culture in their underground, I believe 2000 years is plenty of time for the culture to morph a little. Like, in a different environment underground, and mingling w cave troll and elf and shadow clan culture, I hesitate to mirror the Eastern Cavern culture directly with the Surface's Chinese/other Asian influences cultures, you know? Not to mention that the flora of the underground is different, so maybe the herbs trads had to adapt...and I really appreciate the show showing the audience that hey, slinging WAS inspired by previous religious practice! It's one of the cooler aspects of Slugterra lore for me.

Like, one little HC I have is that, when Junje speaks Cantonese in ROTE, he doesn't actually know what the words mean, or if he does, those are the only words he knows. Like, similar to how Christians/Westerners use Latin! Some words have passed on into the secular and/or religious vernacular (think "hallelujah", for example), and have been passed through time, in different cultural contexts than when it first became popularized. Junjie may know those words as Slug-Fu sayings primarily. I think we could HC so much about the East, because we really have artists choice on how their cultures has accustomed to the underground.

so long story short; I can totally believe they still have marriage, but I hesitate to say that with canonic certainty lmaoooo

horrifying thought for the day:

*takes big breathe* HOW DOES MARRIAGE WORK IN SLUGTERRA?!?

like, how do our religious and secular norms of things translate to down there? How does it legally affect couples in terms of owning property? And healthcare?!?

honestly, do they HAVE marriage as a concept legally? It's pretty anarchist/capitalist down there. Would they even HAVE a legal mechanism to tie 2 ppl together like that?

...genuinely, maybe they don't, or only some caverns do.

I BEG YOU TO READ HER WIKI PAGE

honestly, i only know her because in America if you look like a girl and can shoot well its our sacred tradition for the coach/range officers to call that girl "annie oakley" at least once a month and explain who she is to the unsuspecting kid lmaoooo, I was called annie oakley so often that its lowkey the only time I like being seen as feminine :)

and at a range her whole thing is being the best shot in american history (at least the best popular one) and thats all i knew till, like, a few years ago, where i read her wiki and like BRO HER LIFE??? very wack, and she kinda seems cool on a moral level too!

here's her young (age kinda debated)

I BEG YOU TO READ HER WIKI PAGE

also she was kinda adopted by Sitting Bull and supported Indian Land rights which is cool

and here's possibly her last photo, w her dog and her husband Frank E. Butler (who she met when he challenged her to a shootout and she beat him)

I BEG YOU TO READ HER WIKI PAGE

wiki is decent, there's also the Annie Oakley Center Foundation here: Frequently Asked Questions About Annie Oakley

...how did I make that Annie Oakley post not realizing Mario bravado is obviously inspired by Annie Oakley and

THEREFORE a fic of his convo w blakk would be like the perfect way to explore the Annie Oakley parallels w Slugterra?!?

brb, I have so much to write-

@temperance-sunlight and @a-sad-mage, u both make all fantastic points. I really like the idea of the non-nuclear family, and the importance of who raises kids over who has them, and no real world-wide custom in Slugterra! and like, religion is fascinating w the Shadow Clan. and omfg, no one tried to claim they were a shane!!! I chalked that up to maybe the ppl being suspicious of the Shane's and their secrets and skill and whatnot, so no one would dare mess with them, but yeah no what if property and stuff just doesn't legally operate so everyone would call bs on that immediately? We saw that eli had to prove himself over a long tournament.

oooo, the rabbit holes....

Good, it means we'll be able to build up the young! Will content in the fandom! Keep on soldier, I shall join you when Shane's Get Hurt is complete!!!

I am currently working on something, and all I have to say for myself is this:

Will Shane is just a silly little guy, your honor! He's silly, very un-serious, and just wants to have fun before getting bonked with the trauma hammer

okay if we're both actively writing a fic about will shane jailed by judge logan and being young and fun while breaking out im gonna laugh so damn hard

MIND BLOWN FOR THOSE WHO WATCH RAISE OF THE ELEMENTALS

THE SCENE WGERE KORD ASKS ELI

(this is based of a 11 months old memory)

“You’re choosing him, over us?”

GESTURING TO ELI SEEMINGLY CHOOSING JUNJIES ADVICE/HELP/PLAN OVER THE SHANE GANG

Now that is out there, look at it from a romantic perspective

Someone choosing their new partner over their closest friends. They’re only family left that they found and built connections to life multiple lifetimes.

HOW GUT WRENCHING IT WOULD BE TO SEE YOUR BROTHER BY CHOICE CHOOSE A NEW BOYFRIEND/LOVER OVER YOUR FAMILY.

Not that it was that serious (as in never discussed further) BUT MY GOD THE ANGST

I’m so rewatching Elementals because I need to rewatch the scene in this light

my honorable brain rot buddy, I would like to brain rot some more on this.

one: I don't see tads mom as a plot hole; more like a plot Pandora's box. They could basically do anything with her. But without something...yeah, a bit hallow. I like your idea though. I find compelling the idea that, whoever Blakk has a kid with, shares some type of ambition, just on the side of exploration instead of power. Like a more cynic view of a gar revelle type character.

Two: this is what makes blakk's irrationally ONLY for Eli so good! He wants power and will stoop to any level to get it, but besides that, he's perfectly fine with the world being a fair and just place. This will get overshadowed by ambition (grown from trauma of course), but if it doesn't interfere, he's fine w a lot of things. It's where all the "blakk is a chill boss sometimes" memes come from, and actually contributes to my personal headcanon that he's fruity!

but Eli. Eli Shane. And will Shane, and jimmo Shane. All pretense of "well if they're not in my way it's fine" flies out the window. Their mere existence (after ep 2/3, like u mentioned) is a hinderence, so Blakk stoops to his lowest. And the animosity BUILDS. Like blakk in ROTE wants Eli to suffer so BADLY that he gives up his team's win? Just to keep him alive? so the full story of his character is: femenist as long as it doesn't negatively effect him. When it effects him, he rationally destroys the obstacle. And if your the Shane's...it crosses into an irrational hate, at some point, where the original ideal of "anything for power" crosses into the sadistic, how is this in a kids show, "anything for a power that would harm the Shane's". it's actually a good representation of how anyone can fall into evil. Be situational instead of steadfast with your feminism, and you excuse yourself for some bad shit. and when ppl don't like what your doing to them, you hold grudges, which situationally, are super logical to keep...at first...till suddenly, when you plan out what world you wanna live in, it literately MUST include the suffering of those enemies. It's a toxic pool to fall into. We see that constantly in the real world...

I love this show.

"Sad Mage, you fool, Dr. Blakk can't be a feminist he's-" [gets smacked with a pan]

"Silence heathen, you know not my reasons!"

First, to quote a fic i read

"Im a businessman, not a monster" - Dr. Thaddius Blakk

And i have never agreed more.

Blakk is a horrible guy with little to no redeeming qualities, but here's the thing-

He's not like, a major d¡cƙ either.

Sure, he's a jerk to a lot of his employees, but he's not outright crule either.

Remember, Thaddius Blakk was once a traumatized kid who was to claw his way to the top. And probably witnessed a punch of messed up crap while Viggo Dare was still in charge.

And FYI a true feminist cares about men's problems

Blakk is equally himself to just about everyone he meets, you know what your getting into when you get involved with a guy like him.

Blakk does not care if you are man, woman human, elf, Moleinoid, Cave Troll, have money, or are a poor orphan on the street - all the man cares about is whether or not you're useful.

Feminism, at its core, is equality for women and men. To be on equal footing in every possible way. No discrimination. Just equal rights and equal fights.

[This next bit is kinda a tangent, tbh but i feel like it helps explain my 'Blakk genuinely dose not care' mindset]

Hell, he tried to convince Eli he wasn't all that bad when they first met, and had it not been for Burpy and the suddenly showing the young Shane that Ghoul Slug, Blakk might have convinced Eli he wasn't a threat had things just played out differently.

Blakk didn't officially become Eli's antagonist until Eli declined any sort of 'professional relationship' with him and then declare 'war' in episode 3. Because at that moment before being turned down, Eli Shane, was useful in some capacity. Even if that usefulness would have involved a lot of manipulation.

On top of that, he doesn't undermine Trixie either. While he may not personally know her name, he knows enough that Trixie Sting is an obstacle and a threat. And treats her as such.

And probably made sure his henchmen knew as much.

Then there's Dana

He went out of his way to higher one of the best Highered Marks just to track Dana down, get his blaster back, and get rid of her. Blakk, could easily not care about something like a Blaster, Blakk Industries makes them for crying out loud, he probably has a collection of them! But he goes out of his way to get that one Blaster back from Dana, and then make an example of her. Even went as far as to show up in-person to make sure.

A thing, he wouldn't do just for anyone.

Blakk's fits are rated E for Everyone

The man does not care who you are, prove yourself useful, he'll pull the strings to get you on his side, prove to be a nuisance, and you'll be dealt with accordingly regardless of who you are.

Hence me HCing the man as a Feminist.

You can stand on business, have upstanding morals, all while still being a horrible individual.

It's like Odalia from TOH. She doesn't care, Amity is into girls, she just doesn't like Luz and the rest of her daughters friends because 'their beneath them', and she wants to rule over the Demon Realm.

Same thing with Emperor Belos/Philip. The guy grew up during the era of witch hunts, yet two of his most trusted individuals were women(or female identifying). While he was going to ultimately pull off the biggest witch extermination in history, he didn't care who was working for him, as long as they were useful and fulfilled a purpose. He doesn't underestimate Luz for being a girl, just young and nieve, before getting bitch slapped with the reality this human is more resourceful then he was.

-

Now to touch on something @mrros-e my brain rot buddy in crime mentions in the tags.

How Blakk being a Feminist effects his relationship with whomever Tads mom was.

Jokes on you, friend, because i hc Tad is an oops, baby.

Yeah, that's right, Blakk had a fling with a lady, and she got knocked up and didn't tell Blakk sht

I don't know where the idea of Blakk having to have been married or even a committed relationship to have a baby spawned from, but with as much networking that guy probably had to do while building up Blakk Industries it's safe to assume he met ppl and had a few casual flings.

One of which resulted in Tad.

(And this is not me discrediting/bashing the hc of Blakk having a wife/romance partner, I think its an interesting concept and adds onto Blakk still being a human even though he may act like a monster, a concept i very much so like and will champion because i love complex villains like Blakk. But for the sake of this particular narrative and the limited clues given in cannon, lets pretend otherwise)

The woman, somehow leaving Slugterra and to the Surface, is a plot whole (let's be real, it is). But ignoring it, and just assume the lady was a Surface dweller who would sneak down to Slugterra for fun, and met Blakk by chance.

And when she did realize she was pregnant, she had a choice, and at first she wanted to tell Blakk, he was the baby's father after all, but by then Blakk had developed his reputation, and when she tried some probably thought she was after his money or something.

You know, because people suck.

So by the time Blakk learned of the pregnancy, the Lady had returned to the Surface and swore off coming down to Slugterra ever again. (For reasons)

Blakk probably tried to track her down, but was stumped because there where no records of her ever exiting in Slugterra, and then he remembered bits of their conversations, and how it sounded like she wasn't from Slugterra but the mythical world above.

Thus, his obsession with Shane Secrets begins.

I have a completely different post in my drafts I'm working on, but it relates to this a bit, and the gist of it is, Blakk would have support the woman who was pregnant and any decisions she made, but also given Tad everything he didn't have as a kid.

Again, absolutely horrible individuals can have completely, perfectly normal morals and standards. You can have a monster, give them a humanizing trate, and still be irredeemable.

Dr. Thaddius Blakk is a villain of the highest degree, but he has standards damn it.

This was an incoherent rant of a Mage in desperate need of sleep

Peace ♤

But having a map would be so USEFUL for writing fics and analysing more of the culture of Slugterra, and I really think w enough time and rewatching one could make a decent map. Just...ugh, TIME. My head hurts too. So I just...avoid geography till I have the time to uncover it.

comparison of book thicknesses. First is a thin book, possibly a novella, labelled, "idea you start out with." Next is a stack of three very thick volumes, each of which would be larger than a dictionary. This stack is labelled, "shit you need to research, make decisions about, write and then edit out, etc." Last is a book that is thicker than the initial one but is about typical novel size. It's labelled, "story that takes the reader on the journey you want them to take"

memes are fun and relatable and all that, but don't let them discourage you. all of that stuff that doesn't make it into the final product is part of how the final product gets made

but!!! That doesn't work either!!! The southern caverns are the hottest; and by there name, there where Antarctica should be? The magma caverns could be anywhere. The eastern caverns (many of them more northern) are rocky, the cold precipitation is not a thing there, and therefore (besides chillborne) we lose an indicator. and worst of all, we see from eps like the slug race and that one ep w halling blakk in a trailer that entrances to caverns can be random and have COMPLETELY different geography to one another - despite being right next door. I contribute this to different slug energy and human interference. But we can't even rely on surface geography 😭

its such an undertaking, plus there like no canonical info to go off of. legit alot of what i know is from one-off lines about "it took 3 days to get to futuria cavern!" and such, how often the gang goes somewhere, and other bits of inferenced info. the most pressing problem, though, is sluterra's geography.

some cavers are UNDERNEATH others. this is the underground. It's hard to decide whether a cavern is next to another, or under/over it.

theres CONFLICTING INFO. the mobile games have a few maps, and from what little map graphs we get from the show, those ALSO don't line up. it seems like going from scratch and deciding geography based on what the characters/plot tells us of the caverns is our best bet, and from there, we decide which mapping is most accurate.

so much work. I'll do it...after i finish shanes get hurt on ao3 tho, everyones been waiting for that lol

I read every single page of the 99 caverns wiki for slugterra and all their side pages. And then, the known eastern caverns pages. I made a master document to keep track of 1)what has canonically happened there, 2)what the place is like, 3) what resources it has, 4) what things happened there that we can infer from other information, and 5) where it is on the map because THERES NO CANONICAL MAP.

speaking of which, I really need to make the map. most of it will be unimportant, but sometimes, it's the journey that matters most. I got new fic ideas from some of the stuff.

Shoutout to the time I was a trump supporter in 2016 and 15ish-yr old me was given VIP seats to a trump rally and he was late and the staff didn't allow my dad in so I was all alone near a bar and there was no room and there were drunk woman around me for 5 hours because TRUMP WAS LATE and I was 10 ft away from the orange man JUST FOR A 6 MINUTE SPEECH and the food was cold by the time I could eat in the main hall and I never got a seat and I didn't eat for 24+ hours so I actually started realizing trump was shit (if he can't manage a rally how can he manage a country?!?) and anyway that's how I was deradicalized and became queer and progressive and like a human and stuff

thought we'd all like to hear a success story today 😭

oh, and my elementary school lunch lady was part of camera crew for some local paper?!? So those 5 hours were of her too close to me being like HOW ARE YOU CHILD?!? and me being like "...cool but lowkey this republican stuff ain't feeling great rn but I can't say that or the guys behind me are gonna kill me". But also she has insane lore too I should've asked what in her life led her to that point.

also shoutout to the OTHER kid who was abandoned by HIS parents in the VIP lounge who was in APUSH and decided to do an extra credit assignment by writing about his experiences in a Trump VIP Lounge. I have no idea what political affiliation he was that fateful day but I can promise you we both realllly wanted to go home after it.

it's actually confuzzling me rn, what that average slugterran knows.

Eli knew the deep caverns, but not dark bane specifically, or that dark water exists. Kord talks about dark water like it's something trolls have stories about, but not much experience with. and the Shane's have a drop for the chasm that leads to the portal from what lies beneath, which feels overkill in terms of hiding their stuff. Unless:

maybe they know of the deep caverns, but it's more of a legend that's considered probably true to people, like dark water. Like they know there's a hell down there, but till...recent history...no one went down there, so who knows what was down there? And the Shane's were fine with that very shallow understanding.

this assumption is also helped by the common misconception of the shadow clan. Slugterra society's view of them is based on legend, even though they are easier to see, and definitely believed to be real. Maybe slugterrans know it very basically as "the evil ppl in hell and the evil shadow clan fought like a trillion years ago, ooo scary", and only a few experts know the truth (blakk reading the sacred texts possibly depicting this history comes to mind).

...I'm sure I'm missing a line in some early episode that clears things up, but the show actually does a decent job of giving us the smallest possible clues ever and keeping this fandom alive on 40% "WAIT I JUST REALIZED" moments, so I'd love to hear any scenes you all remember that can help this discussion

Why did it take 4 rewatches of s1 to realize Eli says "if blakk has buisness w the deep caverns we don't know what else can can do" at the end of the deadweed episode?

meaning, will ACTUALLY told him about the deep caverns?!?!? And knew the whole time?!?

YALL

I'm rewatching slug fu showdown.

and I realized - the flute part pronto plays during master shanai's funeral? It's actually played twice in the show.

the second time? THE FIRST SCENE OF JUN TEACHING ELI.

BRIAN CARSON I LOVE YOU IM CRYING THATS BEAUTIFUL.

It transforms from a sound of loss; for life, and for Eli's education and knowledge of the world...into wonder and hope, because he's found a new teacher, and a new friend. That's BEAUTIFUL.
