A bill has been introduced in the US that would make all pornography a federal crime. Owning it. Creating it. Distributing it.
Under this law, fanart of nude characters would be a federal crime.
Under this law, depictions of homosexuality or simply being transgender, would be considered pornography and a federal crime.
This bill is not going to pass.
However, the reason for this bill is to continue to push the "overton window". The reason for this bill is to make banning pornography seem more and more normal to everyone until they can actually do that.
And remember, they consider depictions of gay characters and transgenders characters "pornography" in any context, including platonic.
They have been working on this for a decade now and it has been working.
If you are one of the people in fandom who thinks that "nasty" porn on AO3 should be banned because it's "icky" or "immoral", then this mental scam is working on you.
Censorship is never about protecting people.
Censorship is always about control.
Do not let the rising moral panic affect your mind and make you weak to propaganda that lets others control you and control what you watch and read.

When they say they are going to ban "pornography" it means they're going to ban anything they don't like by calling it "pornography" and they don't like you!!

I know that the goal of the conversion ban therapy initiative has already been reached, but I just checked the site to see if the deadline has already passed (it hasn't as of right now) and noticed something pretty cool.
Yesterday, I tracked the percentages of the countries that hadn't passed the threshold yet for funsies as you do. At 11 AM Central European Time yesterday, Croatia had around 31% of the signatures.
As of 5.10 PM CET today, Croatia has almost 91% and needs only around 800 more signatures.
I just thought that this was really cool and wanted to point it out.

The last days of the petition against conversion therapy are FASCINATING to watch. I have been following it pretty closely for almost a year now, and the progress was, above all, steady. There was this jump when some algorithm in Finland picked it up, but even that was local.
And now, everyone is panicking.
Which really shows.
These past three or four days, multiple countries have reached the threshold. Even more notably, the number of signatures in total, the ones that we need to get one million of, are growing rapidly. There are only 400'000 signatures missing. Two days ago, it was closer to 600'000.

I don't think I have to explain the horrors of conversion therapy to you, so let me explain how this initiative works.
For it to get taken seriously by the EU, we need two things:
7 countries need to reach the minimum threshold of signatures for their country. We're currently at 6 out of 7! Slovenia only needs 300 more signatures to become country number 7!
We need a total of 1 million signatures. This might look daunting, but there days ago we were still at 200.000. Yesterday we were at 450.00. We are at 535.000 right now. So we have a long way to go, but we are moving fast!
The deadline is in a few days, on May 17.
Anybody with a European citizenship can add their name to the pile! If we reach the right amount, the official citizen initiative will be put before the EU Commission.
With lgbtq+ rights getting rolled back across the world, including Europe, there is no time to lose to demand stronger protections.

reproductive rights is not a euphemism for abortion rights or the right of people to become pregnant, it also includes the rights of trans women to not be forcibly sterilized to get gender marker changes or the ability to freeze sperm. but those two things rarely make it on the radar even when trans women's reproductive rights are under attack.
