Im gonna agree with trent shelton on this one, loyalty is rare. Finding someone who wants to stay in your life no matter the circumstances, thats fucking rare. But, there will come a point where if you keep pushing your luck and keep treating this person poorly, they’ll say enough is enough and will have to choose to walk out of your life. And thats a terrible mistake, to let go of someone that loyal because whos to say you’ll ever find someone like that again.

Hey! Just wondering, how did a solar eclipse prove the theory of relativity?

According to the theory of relativity space is not static. The movements of objects can change the structure of space.

In Einstein’s view, space is combined with another dimension - time - which creates universewide “fabric” called space-time. Object travel through this fabric, which can be warped, bent and twisted by the masses and motions of objects within space-time.

One prediction of general relativity was that light should not travel in a perfectly straight line. When traveling through space-time and approaching the gravitational field of a mass object, the light must bend-but not too much.

Then the English astronomer Sir Frank Watson Dyson proposed that the total solar eclipse of 1919 could prove, because the Sun would cross the bright Hyades star cluster. Star light would have to cross the gravitational field of the sun on the way to Earth, but would be visible due to the darkness of the eclipse. This would allow precise measurements of the positions displaced by the gravity of the stars in the sky.

Because of this, teams of researchers strategically positioned themselves in two locations that would initially provide the best conditions for observing the eclipse. One group stayed in Ilha do Príncipe, in São Tomé and Príncipe, and other researchers settled in Sobral, Ceará (Brazil).

Eddington, who led the experiment, first measured the “true” positions of the stars during January and February of 1919. In May, he went to remote Prince Island (in the Gulf of Guinea, on the west coast of Africa) to measure Positions of the stars during the eclipse, seen through the gravitational lens of the sun.

The total eclipse lasted about 6 minutes and 51 seconds, during those few minutes the astronomers captured several photos of the total eclipse. When Eddington returned to England, his data from Príncipe confirmed Einstein’s predictions.Eddington announced his discoveries on November 6, 1919.

Net neutrality wins!

Net Neutrality Wins!

Today, the FCC voted 3-2 in favor of rules that reclassify broadband Internet service as a utility, effectively stopping service providers from blocking sites or apps, charging users extra to surf the Web at full speed or operating paid “fast lanes” for specific services or websites like Netflix or YouTube. And though we’re not completely out of the woods yet, this is huge news.

Washington Post: Opinion | The GOP tax bill may be the worst piece of legislation in modern history
The outlook is already dire for funding for infrastructure and scientific research.

Government is supposed to address the problems a country is facing. Global warming, infrastructure collapse, funding failures in education, research, the point of government is to ensure that a country is thriving based on its principles.

The GOP tax bill doesn’t address any of our country’s pressing problems. We’re suffering from a massive underinvestment in infrastructure, but instead of coming up with a way to fund these projects, we’re repealing the estate tax. Instead of better funding academic programs and scientific research, we’re cutting corporate taxes without fixing the loopholes that help corporations avoid paying taxes in the first place.

This disconnect between what the government is doing and actual governance is jarring, not only because it will put America further behind rising superpowers like China, but also because it erodes Americans’ trust in democracy. Why vote, why participate in democracy, why believe in democracy if it doesn’t solve our problems?

This tax bill isn’t just a bad bill. It contributes to an existential crisis in America that only continues to deepen.
