After seeing this great art inspired by the illustration and recipe in a Doctor Who Cookbook, I went looking for the recipes and found it. Vegetable Soup with Dalek Krotons (or rather, Garlic Croutons) recipe submitted by Patrick Troughton himself. Amazing.
Recipe text below:
Vegetable Soup with Dalek Krotons
Ingredients:
1 small onion
1 turnip
1 carrot
2 potatoes
1 1/2 pts/30 oz/9 dls stock (bouillon)
1 oz/28 g butter
1 tb/1 1/4 tb/30 g flour
Salt and pepper
Nutmeg
2 crushed cloves of garlic for the ‘Krotons’
2 slices of white bread
Method:
Wash, peel and cut the vegetables into very thin slices (these could also be grated). Melt the butter in a pan, add the vegetables and stir them over the heat for 10 minutes. Make sure not to brown the vegetables. Add the stock or water and simmer for one hour. Remove the scum that appears on the top and season with salt and pepper and nutmeg to taste. Mix the flour and the milk together until it becomes a smooth paste. Then add this to the soup. Boil the soup for 10 minutes.
Dalek Krotons:
Dice two slices of white bread. Then melt a knob of butter and a little oil in the frying pan. Crush two cloves of garlic (Dalek) and stir this with the oil and the butter. Fry the diced bread (Krotons Squares) until golden brown.
Serve piping hot soup topped with the golden brown Dalek Krotons.
I finally read The Heralds of Destruction! You know what time it is (Salamander time)
And as a bonus, the Brigadier and Jo <33
The Stakeout from the Insiders Guide.
In case any Varney enthusiasts are lacking.
INSIDE NO. 9 S1E1 "Sardines" | S7E6 "Wise Owl"
recently introduced my american mother to the league of gentlemen. here are my gatherings:
- she does not believe that bernice is played by reece (this stems into her love for the makeup artists as she believes they did “very well at hiding reece particularly”)
- she is scared of edward and tubbs (in fact they are the main reason she never originally watched)
- i think her favourite plot line is the jobseekers ?? but tbh she does like all of them for the most part
- “what on earth were they on when writing series 2 and 3??”
- “who on earth comes up with the idea of a wife mine??”
- “i think it’s crazy that reece seems so normal in real life but can portray these characters so well, and especially so fluidly in the live shows.” this pairs up with her comment of “i think shearsmith is the worst [referring to the writing and partaking in good warped and creepy plot lines] of all of them”
- she really likes pop. she said it reminds her of her landlord from when she lived in nyc
- i think her favourite season was s2, she was very fixated on the nose bleeds and we watched the whole season in one night because she needed to know what was going on
- she doesn’t like geoff, mike, and brian very much, but did laugh at the “i won the mums” bit in live again
showing her the movie next !! we watched it all a bit out of order, but tbf the movie doesn’t exactly affect canon so it’s fine
Reece Shearsmith in Home (2019). The series was written by and starred Rufus Jones, who appeared alongside Reece in Stag and was the voice of Charles in IN9 episode Once Removed
Reece's scenes in The Cave. This short was written, directed, edited and animated by Remy Lamont as part of the launch of MySpace's comedy hub in 2010. The cast includes David Schneider and The Actor Kevin Eldon. Reece also has a "script editor" credit on this.
:)

Not only was Mr Warren vs Simon the closest contest and most-voted poll in this round – it attracted unprecedented engagement and controversy, which is perhaps what Simon would have wanted.
