It just occurred to me that Andrew didn't just agree to dinner with the Hemmicks because Neil made compelling arguments or because he's soft on Neil. He agreed because Neil offered to come along. He agreed because Neil offered to have his back if he went. It's the same deal that Andrew's been making Neil the entire time: go do this thing that scares you because I've got your back.
Which makes Andrew forgiving Neil really quickly after just a few harsh words make so much sense. Because despite the outcome of that dinner and Neil's role in making it happen, he did have Andrew's back. He got to Andrew before anyone else even knew something was wrong, he brought a weapon, he hid Andrew's knives without question, he did everything Andrew needed him to do. It was a shit situation that they walked into like idiots but Neil still had his back every step of the way. Neil didn't break any promises and that counts for more in Andrew's books than any fuck-up Neil could make.
Jean Moreau be like Neil Josten was supposed to be my best friend and I consider that loss to be one of the worst things that ever happened to me. He's one of the select few who I trust to take me and my problems seriously and make good on his promises to me. Unfortunately he is also the fucking antichrist and everything he does is calibrated to spike my blood pressure.
women- especially women of color- aren't completely and totally pushed aside in fiction for the favor of m/m ships that usually have little to no chemistry. i swear. the reason there's no content for them in fan media is because. uh. (sweating buckets) they're less interesting in canon. unlike the men, who have been projected onto by fans to the point of having whole new personalities. which is different

rereading aftg is so funny like I have a crystal clear image of Andrew in my mind and he's the most handsome guy in the whole series while Aaron looks like a vague shape even though they're identical twins
