can you imagine you go to a fancy italian restaurant and before you go through the doors the doorman stops you and is like Signore Per Fevore, I Simply Must Remove Your Jacket Before You Enter and youre like well if you must, its getting a little shabby anyways and he says It Is My Pleasure Signore and then he smashes you over the head and cuts you up into little pieces for your flavour and aroma. such is the life of the humble garlic
god ugh i wish i wasn’t so fucking ugly
Going on vacation as a vegan with a bunch of non-vegans can be so frustrating bc they all pick the restaurants and I have to make whatever half cooked veggies they have work and then they’re all like man I’m so full and I go back to the hotel room and eat the snacks I brought
there are times in one's life where one must simply review anecdotes from one's childhood and think to oneself "wow, that was an autism in a trench coat"
Thinking of becoming a guy that thinks wolves are the most badass and aspirational animal, but about ants. Like wearing t-shirts about being loyal to my Queen and training to bench 5x my bodyweight. Studying ant warfare. Posting shit like this
redownloaded instagram and got sucked into reels and it’s truly like an alternate reality happening over there. video of a girl being like “looking back on my cringe 2021 taste….” and it’s a pic of her wearing like. jeans and a top. the top has a checkerboard pattern. she’s like screaming in agony. the comments are all like “omg not the microtrend 😭 i can’t believe i ever wore that” like woah. i think you guys are crazy
i love being in “all vegan” spaces. going to a vegan restaurant and not even having to think about what you can order because you can order everything!! going into a vegan supermarket and knowing that you don’t have to read every lable to look for some hidden animal derived ingredients.
and i love so much living on my own now and having everything in my flat be vegan. all the food in my kitchen, all the cosmetics i have. just having one space in my life where i can create my little world as i would like it to be and according to my ethical beliefs is so freeing
‘When fishing stops, the results are remarkable. On average, in 124 marine reserves studied around the world, some of which have been in existence only a few years, the total weight of animals and plants has quadrupled since they were established. The size of the animals inhabiting them has also increased, and so has their diversity.
In most cases the shift is visible within two to five years. As the slower-growing species also begin to recover, as sedentary life forms grow back and as reefs of coral and shellfish re-establish themselves - restoring the structural diversity of the seabed - the mass and wealth of the ecosystem is likely to keep rising for a long time.
Five years after Georges Bank, off the coast of New England, was closed for commercial fishing, the number of scallops had risen fourteenfold. Around Lundy Island, mature lobsters trebled in number within eighteen months of the creation of the reserve. After four years they were five times as abundant as those outside, after five years, six times.
Eighteen years after they were first protected, the combined weight of large predatory fish in the Alp Island reserve in the Philippines had risen by a factor of seventeen. Bigger fish produce more eggs, and the quality of eggs improves as the parents mature, so more of the offspring are likely to survive.
Like the Kraken in Tennyson’s poem, the suppressed life of the sea awaits only for its chance to re-emerge.’
