Me trying to write this sentence:
"Seeing the soldierโs clumsy sword work, Crowley realized that the Hibernian could have simply moved in and driven his saxe into the manโs body as he deflected the blade."
Google: no, not saxe, it has to be a saxophone
Lonely ranger this, orphan ranger that. What about rangers with kids? Give me a ranger dadโข showing up at the gathering with two little kids and "sorry, guys, my wife really needs a break" and everyone is so delighted because "look at those cuties, you need to bring them next year". What about two best friends assigned to neighbouring fiefs? Really, they work more in tandem than alone - "You want to talk to the ranger of this fief? Sorry sir, which one do you mean, the short one or the shorter one?" Give me the biggest extrovert who hates being alone in his cabin, so he does all of his paperwork alongside scribes at the castle, and thanks to that, is literally the only one who is up-to-date with his paperwork - "What's your secret with the paperwork?" "You need to find someone to suffer with you." Give me a ranger with a partner and kids and apprentice, and a cabin by the woods that is never empty.
This YouTube comment has been on my mind since I finished SOTR so this is what I came up with:
Lucy Gray was the mockingbird, living on the outskirts of district 12 and was there at the wrong time when they were forced to stay there after the Dark Days. They were subjected to the Capitolโs politics despite not being a part of Panem, technically speaking. Lucy Gray became part of the Games and, likewise, the mockingbird became affiliated with the Capitol through the jabberjayโs release into the woods, but it still continued to sing its own song.
Haymitch was the jabberjay, a Capitol tool that did what it had to in order to survive. The Capitol thought they could control them, but they retaliated in the form of rebellion. Haymitch refused to be a piece in their game and tried to end it, and the jabberjay, in the eyes of the Capitol, created a freak of nature that showed the Capitolโs lack of complete control.
Katniss was the mockingjay, a slap in the face of the Capitol, something that was never meant to exist. Together, the song of the mockingbird that lived on for generations and the stubbornness of the jabberjay that refused to die, the mockingjay had the best of both worlds. It was a symbol of rebellion and unity.
This rant was inspired by @freddycartr's post here because it's all I can ever think about and I'm probably insane ๐

Cinder and Kai are truly two sides of the same coin, and their connection is so powerful because it's rooted in shared trauma and mutual understanding. Both are thrust into unimaginable circumstances at a young age -- for Kai, it's the death of his father and the pressure of marrying Levana to save his country. For Cinder, it's the death of Peony and years of abuse from her adoptive family. They're both carrying the weight of responsibility while also battling internal fears: Kai fears losing his autonomy and becoming a puppet, while Cinder fears she'll die alone, never seen as fully human because of the prejudice against cyborgs.
Kai was drawn to Cinder because she was refreshingly honest and didnโt treat him like a prince or a celebrity -- she saw him. Her lack of awe challenged him and made him feel real in a way few others ever had. In contrast, Cinder was so used to being avoided or looked down on, and Kai was the first person who looked her in the eyes and treated her like she mattered. For someone who had spent her whole life being dehumanized, that kind of genuine attention was revolutionary. She was terrified of him discovering who she really was, not because she didnโt trust him, but because she finally felt safe, and the idea of losing that was unbearable.
They both craved something rare: to be seen for who they are beneath the labels -- not the prince, not the cyborg, but just Kai and Cinder. And in each other, they finally found that.
That elevator scene in Cinder -- when Kai asks, โImagine there was a cure, but finding it would cost you everythingโฆโ -- becomes hauntingly prophetic. Once Cinder learns sheโs Princess Selene, that question isnโt hypothetical anymore. Sheโs literally forced to choose between her life as she knows it and the hope of saving others. Itโs a turning point, and it links them even more deeply: both of them carry the crushing weight of their nations, expected to sacrifice everything for the greater good.
And thatโs why theyโre such a perfect match -- not because they complete each other in a cliche way, but because they understand each other in a way no one else possibly could. They know what itโs like to be seen as something other than human. They know what itโs like to feel completely alone -- until they found each other.
Okay, thank you for coming to my Ted Talk ๐
I think that after several years, the Rampion Crew grow so used to Cinder being cyborg that they sort of forget about it entirely, resulting in interactions such as this:
*Cinder applying sunscreen to her right leg at the beach* Thorne: Wow, you're brave. Cinder: Huh? Thorne: Well, if you only wanna put sunscreen on one leg and end up looking like a two-toned popsicle, I won't stop you. Cinder: *Stares at him* Thorne: *Stares back* Cinder: ... Thorne: What?

The search continues throughout the seven seas for the elusiveย โAlbert,โ who the famous Ranger Halt of Araluen has been seen earnestly searching for from the decks of the Skandian ship Wolfwillย on many a voyage. Many a Skandian wolfship has promised to keep a sharp lookout for the Rangerโs friend, amid puzzling bouts of laughter. Presumably, this unfortunate was swept overboard, and though itโs almost certain that he has drowned, Haltโs extended search would indicate that the Ranger has reason to believe he is still alive.
We spoke to Gundar Hardstriker, skirl of Wolfwill, who was seen to clutch his helmet tightly and look about to ensure the Ranger wasnโt on deck before responding. Hereโs what he had to say about the search:
โWeโll keep looking, all right, and none harder than our Ranger friend. He spends hours huddled at the bow of the deck, calling Albertโs name over and overโฆ. at least, thatโs what I think heโs saying.โ
We also spoke to Will, Haltโs former apprentice, who glared at our reporter.ย โThings are really going to go south if Halt gets wind of this,โ he muttered darkly. When pressed as to his meaning, he glanced back apprehensively towards Haltโs cabin and refused to answer further questions.
Halt will not come out of his cabin and thus could not be reached for comment. According to Courier Alyss, he is suffering from a mysterious Gallican illness known as mal-de-mer. We donโt know what this means, but it certainly sounds scary, and we can only hope for his speedy recovery and reunion with his missing friend.
