Samael(Lucifer) was a dreamer, and he loved to share his ideas. He also talked about free will. Many angels ignored him, but some angels, including Satanael who was the High Seraphim and good friend with Archangels, were interested in what he said.
Unfortunately, they decide to disobey God.
War breaks out. Friends of the archangels, including Satanael, were the leaders of the traitors.
Samael was not one of the traitors. He found Raphael, who didn't expect that to happen and was very scared, among the traitors. Raphael explain why he was there. Samael realized that he's had an impact on this happening, and he despaired.
In the end, the traitors, including Raphael, fell.
Archangels were saddened by the loss of their brother, their friends, and their lover(in Gabriel's case). Samael suffered from guilt, and Gabriel, Michael, and Uriel blamed him.

What if Muriel was demoted like Gabriel almost was?
From what I find, Muriel belongs to Dominion, one of the middle orders of angels, in Christian angelology. But why Muriel in Good Omens belong to Scrivener that seems to be the low class?
Heaven tried to erase Gabriel's memory and demote him. Maybe in heaven, that's how they punish the sinful angels who made a bid mistake but not enough to go to hell? I think maybe Muriel was originally an angel of the middle class but became scrivener because she did something wrong and got that punishment. Plus, considering what Gabriel was like when he lost his memory, maybe Muriel's innocence also have been influenced by the memory's erasure.
Good Omens season 2 released almost eight months ago and I'm sure someone would have thought this before, but I just wanted to post it.
