The thing I keep coming back to, with all the *gestures expansively* is that real life doesn't have peaceful epilogues.

Every single win has to be defended. Forever. I'm sorry. It sucks. The Nazis lost until they stopped losing. The US had abortion rights, and then 50 years later it didn't. Empires fall, and then they invade other countries again. Oppressive regimes are overthrown and replaced with other oppressive regimes. You will never finish the work etc etc etc. Which is why it's so fucking important to be able to acknowledge and celebrate progress, when it happens. The people who came before you didn't put in all that work for nothing, and you aren't, either. You can't save it all for the Ultimate Victory because there is never going to be an Ultimate Victory. There's no such thing as a time when everything is good, and ours shall not be the commune of Heaven.

Favorite Mods for Better Townies:

One of the most anti-immersive things about the Sims 4 is that the townies can pretty much just be little shell people walking around doing nothing, having no personality, etc etc. So, I've developed a small obsession with mods that improve townie realism, automatically assign them personality features, and/or fix their strange outfit choices. I neeeeed people to stop conflating femme with “gender-conforming lesbian.” Both butch and femme are inherently gender nonconforming because they’re based in redefining masculinity and femininity in ways that don’t involve men. That’s like half the definition. Some of us have all of our body hair. Some of us have short hair. Some of us don’t wear a lot of makeup, or any at all. Some of us feel more comfortable in a suit than a dress. Some of us are loud, angry, and protective. Some of us aren’t women. Femmes are not a monolith of soft and delicate cis girls and I really need to see more recognition of that on this site before I go insane.

I know you have all probably seen the esims for gaza posts circulating. Some of you have probably looked at them and thought maybe you should help out, but have weighed up the daunting process of signing up for something you're unfamiliar with vs. the gut-wrenching scale of the things people are going through on the ground right now, and you've put it off or questioned whether it will make enough of a difference vs. some other future kind of activism you could put that $6+ towards. I'm not calling you out or scolding you, it is natural to feel conflicted and ambivalent about the multiple calls for aid that you are seeing on social media.

but consider this: what would you do if you suddenly had to leave your home? how would you cope? how would you begin to plan where to go next, or figure out what to do to take care of yourself? most likely you would reach reflexively for your phone.
