I’ve watched you suffer through so much pain that to watch you experience more, let alone by my hand, is unthinkable. Every action I take is to get us closer to a life where we can live in peace and where we’ll be on equal standing with each other. If you knew the things I’ve had to do to get us there, and if you loved me less because of it, I’d die. 

What he says: Do it. 

Arthur: You have transformed from a thing I fear to a thing I trust. The pain it took to earn that trust makes it all the more excruciating when it is broken. You are still learning gentleness and selflessness and compromise. I am aware of how hard it is to learn these things for the first time. I am a father.
