i think “video games aren’t really the violent child-corrupting threat some parents worry they are” and “certain circles of gamer culture are incredibly toxic and can lead people down dangerous/hateful ideological rabbit holes” are ideas that can absolutely coexist

thinking about the character in peril or perhaps some sort of pain...

"i don't comment on ao3 because i don't wanna be annoying or weird" skill issue + you greatly underestimate the power dynamic here, writing multi paragraph comments is like feeding a bunch of deeply insane and possibly starved ducks at the park and watch them go completely mad over having received a piece of bread

Hello, one of the like. 5 fellow koukane shippers on Tumblr, I'm writing a koukane future au kind of in a scenario where they failed to reverse the severance so Aoi and the supernaturals are still gone and 7 years have passed before Kou and Akane reunite for the first time

The temptation to make this into a multi chapter slowburn is growing stronger and stronger so maybe you have some ideas on what sort of shenanigans 22 y/o law firm intern Akane and 21 y/o small diner owner (and kind of single parent to Tiara) Kou can get up to as they slowly fall in love? :D

Failed severance immediately makes me think of angst: Kou dreams of being an exorcist no longer being achievable. Akane still carrying his watch around, maybe taking care of potted plants in honor of Aoi. Classmates not knowing who they are grieving, and such, but its been 7 years, I doubt either would talk about the severance...

hyugyu I'll try not to go full angst, here are some ideas:

It's been 7 years. Akane would be a bit intrigued/horrified that Kou looks a lot like Teru now, he is not a kid anymore. He can't help but stare when he cook cause it feels wrong.

If Teru is dead in this AU, (I can't help but worry when you said Kou is alone in raising Tiara...) then seeing their resemblance could make Akane find it hard to look at Kou in the eye. He feels guilty or tired or something near Kou at first.

Akane using his knowladge to let Kou know of some obscure civil law that would allow Kou to get some government money to support him and his sister, so that Kou doesn't have to overwork.

Kou giving Akane little treats after a hellish day at the firm and Akane associating his small diner with comfort.

Kou probably does 'delivery' to his close friends, so he can add Akane to his delivery list. He probably get intimidated by his firm at first but starts to look forward to it after a while, Akane is just always so annoyed/overworked, and he alwyas lit up when Kou have enough time in his own work to brings him a nice snack.

The severance aniversary making them gloomy. Usually they stew in their own misery but when together they focus on how the other is miserable and try to cheer each other up instead. May end in frustration, may end in an emotional, if very awkward, heart to heart.

Kou worried Tiara is alone a lot and Akane trying to make Kou trust his neighbours to help look after her since he isn't in an exorcist family anymore, there are no secrets. Kou really hates the reminder his family is no longer of exorcist, so the talk eventually scalates to "She can have a sleepover at my place if you're too tired to babysit. I got some books she can read while I organize papers."

Akane claiming he'll Kou be be less overprotective of Tiara and accidentally becoming protective of her too.

Nene realizing what's up and trying to play cupid to distract her own lonely grieving heart and because she genuinely want her friends to be happy

i think fiction should be abolished. if yo uwrite about a character dying you should be put on trial in real life for murder

“why do you ship them? I thought the ship wasn’t canon?” bro we’re talking about fictional characters, who don’t actually exist in real life, from a media that focuses solely on fictional events that are not real either. so what if these two made-up characters didn’t kiss in their source material? they have lots of nasty gay sex on archive of our own and thousands of novel length slow burn enemies to lovers fics written about them. the fanon content at this point far exceeds the whole canonical franchise. the problem isn’t “it’s not canon” the problem is that you don’t allow yourself to let go of canon and enjoy the wonder of fan contents that are just as good / valid

I feel like the phrase 'write for yourself' is starting to be used too rigidly these days or treated like the only valid approach, when in reality, writing can be for yourself and others. I enjoy writing, but I also enjoy sharing and getting comments! Is it really that horrible that I enjoy both? Why should I feel guilty about my own excitement over sharing a new chapter and eagerness to know what readers will think about it?

Of course, you should write for yourself, fanfiction especially, first and foremost, but being excited to share it with the others isn't something to be ashamed of either.

If we all wrote just for ourselves, Ao3 and similar websites wouldn't exist.

I truly hate the word "unalive." There are so many other euphemisms that fictional Italian mobsters worked so hard to provide you with and you just ignore them.

Note: everyone is entitled to their own opinion. No I am NOT telling people to abandon said and use these. Yes I understand that said is often good enough, but sometimes you WANT to draw attention to how the character is speaking. If you think adding an action/movement to your dialogue is 'good enough' hate to break it to you but that ruins immersion much more than a casual 'mumbled'. It really makes me sad when people try to defend a character so much that they just take away all their nuance 🥀

Like... It's not just with certain characters, but the two I see the most are Hanako and Teru (which I think makes sense, they're two sides of the same coin which I could write a whole thing about-)

It's like the fandom can't like one of the two without tearing down the other despite the parallels in their actions and morals.

With Teru, rather than explaining that there is a balance with his actions (his actions are understandable and not malicious from his own perspective, as that's how he was raised, but they aren't completely correct), they focus on emphasizing how awful other characters are in comparison (specially the supernaturals, which make sense— those are the ones Teru is against. Sometimes it's Kou which is strange to me though ngl 💔)

With Hanako, it's interesting. I see people tear down Teru especially, yes, but I see people more willing to explain away Hanako's actions through the lense of his own trauma and morals. He sacrifices Aoi for Yashiro because he's selfishly selfless— same with the picture perfect arc. Teru literally calls him out on this— he wants to do the dirty work so Yashiro doesn't have to.

Hanako stans defend Hanako through his trauma, Teru stans defend him through the missteps of other characters. I think it's more interesting when we combine the two personally, and apply it to all characters other than just one. Maybe I'm biased because I could write essays on just about every tbhk character but it makes me really sad when there's no nuance allowed for characters and they're either defended or demonized until they're a shell of themself 💔 🙏
