As of Jan 21st, 2025, a full copy of the constitution is no longer available on whitehouse.gov. I feel like this is a good time to remind everyone that the biggest threat to authoritarianism and facism is a well educated and informed population. Inform yourself and fight.

do you think when edwin admitted that he didn't tell charles he was dying because he didn't want to scare him that that's the first time in way too long that someone had done something to *protect* charles? and really wasn't the entire night an act of protection, keeping him from being alone and scared?? it's no wonder charles committed himself to protecting edwin afterwards

What I love about the infamous puppy debacle of 94 is the implication that within five years of immediately partnering up, living together and starting the agency Charles (bc ofc it was Charles) was like 'we should start a family'
iβm really hoping people havenβt given up on dead boy detectives because i still have it playing pretty much on repeat on my computer every single day trying to up the views (i just leave it playing as i go about my day) and i certainly canβt do that alone

One thing I adore about Dead Boy Detectives is how brilliant the first ten minutes are. The pacing is incredible. You meet the boys, learn who they are, get a peek at what they want, and are shown what their strengths and weaknesses are.
Straight out the gate, you know that Charles is impulsive and more physically protective, and that Edwin is more intellectual and prone to magic. You learn magic exists and this is a setting where an infinite backpack can happen. Edwin gets a chance to show off his deductive skills with their client, and Charles gets to show off his people skills with both the client and the WWI ghost. Six minutes in and we already know these characters.
You learn that this is how these characters function together, and that they know each other well enough to know each others' strengths and weaknesses and rely on each other and compensate for them, respectively. The pacing is lively and attention-grabbing, and the back-and-forth between the office and the scene while they're on the job allows a fantastic showcase of the contrast between how they work together in different situations.
Then we get a look at the deeper need that motivates our two ghosts: staying together, against all odds, even after death, even in the face of Death herself.
And then we segue into another brilliant bit of exposition. Instead of a long, stodgy talking scene that would slow down the pacing, we get shown slices of Crystal acting strangely to explain what's going on.
In the space of ten minutes, we have met our characters, know what drives them, know their status quo, and are ready for that status quo to be upended, all without a single exposition dump.
No wonder this series series was met with critical acclaim. This is brilliant character writing and pacing. I write for a living, and this intro scene had me turning to the person next to me, saying, "THAT'S how you do it."
There's so much to appreciate about Dead Boy Detectives, but I feel like the script doesn't get anywhere near enough attention. Standing ovation for the absolutely brilliant writing, honestly.
if you want to get really mad, one of the writers for Dead Boy Detectives confirmed on twitter today that the Season 2 script had been WRITTEN AND COMPLETED when the cancellation news went out.
This is really untenable, not just as people watching these shows for entertainment, but as people who care about art and workers being treated fairly.
#netflixcancels is trending because people are so angry about several other wonderful, highly praised shows getting axed for the same reasons - especially Warrior Nun, another LGBTQ show with 100% ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and winner of several awards.
βοΈ I can only recommend, if this is important to you, streaming the hell out of Dead Boy Detectives and getting others on board, or you and everyone you know unsubscribes from Netflix. You can let em know on social media too.
There's also a petition, it's at 14k signatures, which is not nothing.
Anyway. I'm just stunned that Netflix bothers to make these shows which are positively received and artistically groundbreaking, just to destroy them after 1 season. It's unfair to everyone, not just fans, and an alarming sign for creative professions on the whole.

We really do have a chance in this genuinely if we can keep it up for as long as possible! We are doing so great, the cast and crew honestly believe in us. If you need some motivation today or this week just know they are all rooting for us and continue to hold out hope! They are fighting just like we are π
