megumi fushiguro x reader
summary: i am a sucker for mutual pining. seeing megumi’s beautiful smile for the first time.
The city always seemed quieter at dusk, the usual hustle of shuffling feet and distant honking vehicles softened as you strolled alongside Megumi down the city streets. You’d been alone together many times before; yet this evening felt different, like walking along the edge of something unacknowledged as the rustle of unseen leaves filled the silence.
"Are you sure this is the right way?" you asked, breaking the comfortable silence as you glanced up at the darkening sky, painted with hues of pink and orange.
Megumi, hands tucked casually into his pockets, merely nodded. He didn’t stop walking, barely acknowledging your words as you struggled to keep up with his heavy steps. "It's a shortcut." He said, short and simple as was always his way of communicating.
“A shortcut to what exactly? You know Gojo’s going to hassle us for being late again.”
He side-eyed you, a soft sigh escaping his lips, though his expression remained neutral. You could sense an almost imperceptible shift, a stiffening of his posture at the mention of your former teacher. "Since when do you care about Gojo's timing?" His gaze, brief and stormy, met yours for a split second before drifting away.
“Touche,” you laughed, nudging his shoulder slightly. He doesn’t physically react, his pace remaining unchanged, but you could tell from the briefest flicker in his eyes that you’d at least gotten some, albeit tiny, reaction out of him.
As you continued, the path opened into an unexpected clearing, a slice of calm nestled amongst the chaos of Tokyo. The city’s hum faded, absorbed by a dense canopy of trees. As you breathed you could pick up the subtle scent of damp earth; it was a stark contrast to the city you had just come from. Serene, but almost magical.
“Wow,” you breathed, turning to find that somehow Megumi had stopped beside you, his gaze drifting upwards to the branches ahead. There wasn’t much enthusiasm on his face, especially compared to you, but there was a brief flicker of admiration in his eyes.
“This part of the city,” he said, his voice lilting into something that almost resembled fondness, “its overlooked.”
You look up, watching as the stars outstretched in the sky. It was beautiful. “Figures you’d know all the secrets in this city.” You say in awe. “It’s pretty.”
When you look back at Megumi he’s looking at you, and it was then, against the dark background of night sky, that you caught it…a smile. It was the briefest of moments, a subtle uptick of his lips as he watched you gaze at the sky. But it faded, just as quickly as it had come. In that moment you realize you’ve never actually seen Megumi smile before. Not when his face is perpetually impassive, when he’s always so guarded and reserved. No, this was a first. And my god was it beautiful. Probably the most beautiful smile you’d ever seen; no wonder he didn’t show it off because a smile like that was like the sun, burning so bright that it ignited something in you.
“Do that again,” you said, hardly containing the surprise in your voice. Your eyes slightly wider as you studied his face.
“Do what?” he replied, looking away from you, his gaze lingering on a distant tree.
You narrow your eyes. “You know what.” You say, playfully nudging his shoulder again to hide the fact that seeing him looking at you in that way, with that smile on your face…well it was bad for your heart.
He rolled his eyes, scoffing lightly. “Can we just go.” He said, as he continued to walk on in front of you.
You walk behind him, letting him guide you as the silence is filled with grassy footsteps. “You have a nice smile.” You finally say, a subtle uptick of your own lips as you avoid looking directly at him, heart pounding just a little faster in your chest. You just look on down at the ground, watching your shoes gather dirty against the muddy path.
So you missed it, missed the way his lips curved upwards again, missed the subtle blush that dusted the tips of his ears, as he lead you towards your destination.
Toji Zenin as your arranged husband in the Zenin clan, would really not regard you as his wife initially, even later on he would have a hard time wrapping his head around the whole idea of it.
Toji Zenin as your arranged husband would make two beds/futons on two extreme ends of your shared bedroom in the clan estate, would not even turn in your direction as he sleeps, and would slip out of the door, quietly, at the very break of dawn.
Toji Zenin as your arranged husband, who would let you latch onto his arm at a family gathering where everyone in the clan has gathered into the large banquet hall, but only because he sees it as a formal necessity.
Toji Zenin as your arranged husband, who would intentionally keep you away from the old geezers and Naoya, at the said gatherings because he knows how deeply condescending they are towards women, even their own kin.
Toji Zenin as your arranged husband, who doesn’t really care about this marriage but doesn’t really care about the idea of being with another woman outside of it either. Like moss on the base of trees, he remains unmoving and unbothered in this specific field.
Toji Zenin as your arranged husband, who is actually taken aback when you tell him he can do whatever he wants outside of this marriage as long as he keeps it under the wraps. Because this leads him to believe you’re doing something of the sort.
Toji Zenin as your arranged husband, who is so baffled by his own envy and rage over the mere notion of his wife partaking in an act of infidelity that he has to begrudgingly retreat to a spare bedroom at the end of everyday because he cannot fathom what he’ll do if he looks at you.
Toji Zenin as your arranged husband, who is finally forced to face you after almost two weeks due to unforeseeable circumstances and he almost retches at the bitterness scorching the back of his throat.
Toji Zenin as your arranged husband, who finally decides to confront you so he closes the bedroom door behind him and walks forward, grabs your wrist and pulls you towards him.
Toji Zenin as your arranged husband, who doesn’t miss the slight widening of your eyes and the warmth of your face and the glitter of your eyes, and he hopes, hopes that despite everything, you choose him. He is willing to put this behind, to forgive and forget, because god his wife is so beautiful, he would do anything to have you love him, or atleast try to.
Toji Zenin as your arranged husband, who approaches the topic directly without any hesitation, because what is the point of beating around the bush when the truth is already there in his face.
“Have you been with other men?”
And he hates, he hates the way your eyes widen because it is a clear indication of something that he refuses to accept.
“What?”
He understands. Toji really does understand. Why would you or anyone for that matter, be willing to openly confess about something as such.
“Ya heard me.”
He doesn’t miss the way your brows furrow, and he anticipates violence and anger and everything red, with the way your mouth presses itself into a thin line and your forehead creases in thought. He is already convincing himself of a life where he has to live with the burden of knowing, yet forgiving.
“What exactly gave you the idea?”
Now this irks him. Toji wishes you would just be out with it, hell, he already knows, he’s convincing his poor heart of a future where you can still try to love him despite all this, so why would you drag this on any longer than you need to?
“You told me I could do whatever I wanted outside of this marriage.”
“And that led you to believe that I was doing the same?”
Toji frowns. He likes the way your eyes soften and the corners of your mouth quirk up, your lower lip tuck itself under your upper one, despite the fact that it all seems to be mocking, he likes it. But he is still confused so he simply frowns, and luckily for him, you seem to catch onto his reasoning real quick.
You free your hand from his hold and step closer to him, torsos touching, before you get on your tippy toes and loop your arms around his neck. Toji bends down to accommodate you in this position, it all seems to new, so soft to him that he is momentarily taken aback.
“You thought I was cheating.” You state, there’s no offence in your tone, but simple mirth that glimmers in your eyes and reaches down to your upturned mouth.
“Is that why you’ve been sleeping in a different room because you thought I was compromising this marriage?”
And Toji frowns deeper, like a kicked puppy. His arms hang stiffly by his side and he wishes he could loop them around your waist.
“Toji.” You whisper, leaning in to brush your nose against his.
Your smile disappears, his breath mingles with yours and both your and his eyes flicker down, then up.
“I haven’t. I would never.” You say.
And you hold back your tongue from admitting the fact that your offer was a half hearted, unwilling one, that the days he slept away from you, you would curl in your bed and cradle your aching heart and chest.
“Yeah?” Toji whispers back. He is breathless now. He feels like a large boulder has been lifted off his chest, so now he can finally breathe, like a man submerged underwater, he laps at the surface, gasping for air, desperate.
“I have a husband.”
And it sets off a fuse in him.
He snakes his big arms around your waist, and pulls you closer until the warmth of your bodies becomes a shared one, and then he’s leaning down, eyes half lidded and drunk on love, love that he didn’t realise he was nurturing, with intent.
But you stop him, with a hesitant hand to his chest.
“Have you?……been with other women?”
And Toji doesn’t like how small you sound all of a sudden, how your sparkly eyes look at him with hesitance, and fear, of knowing something you couldn’t stomach. He doesn’t like how you visibly shrink in his arms.
“Why would I? I have a wife.” He says with a cheeky grin before leaning down and taking your mouth into his.
Toji Zenin as your husband who sleeps with you nestled in his arms that night. And stays unmoving hours after waking up, basking in your warmth.

Sukuna's the type of boyfriend where you confess to him first and he acts like he knew all along. He didn't - and he does a major fistbump the moment you look away.
The type where he'll click his tongue at wherever you want to drag him during your date, then snatch your hand and take you there anyway.
The type where he lets you put on face masks and eyeliner on him to your hearts content - no matter how much says it's stupid, and he doesn't need that shit, anyway, you always catch him keeping it on.
The type to make you pretty bracelets - not buy, make. Picking out charms and colors he thinks you'd love and then thrusting it into your hands saying it "wasn't a big deal, anyway." But you catch that pretty blush on his cheeks.
The type that makes your coworkers slightly concerned when a towering, beefy man is waiting for you on his rugged motorbike. And they've got their fingers on the phone already, peering anxiously outside as you cling onto the very man with a tight hug. And only - only - when they catch him fastening on your helmet, oh-so-gently do they breathe out in relief, realizing that maybe he's just that type.
Pervy DILF neighbor Toji that has just the right amount of cockiness to mow the lawn shirtless, knowing you're at the window. Watching.
Pervy DILF neighbor Toji with his bedroom window right opposite yours, curtains always drawn - always. Keeping an eye out for when you're purposefully too distracted to close your own curtains when you change. Hey, sue the guy - he has a great view, and you're having a great time teasing him.
Pervy DILF neighbor Toji who finds that your dryer has broken and you're drying your laundry on your balcony. Only for a pretty lil' piece of lace to land on his own - thank god for the wind. And thank god for those soundproof walls he'd installed with the way he had your panties wrapped around his fist, the other around his rock-hard cock, rasping out your name over and over.
Pervy DILF neighbor Toji who'd knock at your door to ask you for some.....sugar....then maybe let it slip that he'd totally burnt those cookies for Megumi's bakesale so wouldyoupleasemindhelping.
Pervy DILF neighbor Toji who doesn't get much baking done with you that day. Or...at all really.
nanami tells you he loves you for the first time when he knows you can't hear him. you've dozed off in the middle of your movie night...again, popcorn fallen to the floor and kernels scattered. which isn't much of a surprise to him. in fact, you fall asleep during almost every movie night. work has been hard on you lately and you just can't seem to stay awake long enough to finish a movie.
it doesn't annoy nanami either. he finds it quite endearing, really and often finds himself observing the pretty way your lashes fan across your face. how your lips do this cute little pouty thing that makes him want to kiss you. how sometimes you snore (but he'd never tell you he knows that). he can't get enough of you. it only confirms what he'd known only two weeks into dating.
he loves you
there are not many things in this world nanami fears, but he does fear scaring you off by falling too hard, and falling too fast. he does fear you not returning his feelings. and he even fears how intense this love he has for you is. but, he couldn't have avoided it if he tried. before he knew it, he was already smitten with you.
and it's still far too early for him to build up the courage to say these three little words to you when you're wide awake and able to respond (the most terrifying part to him), but he knows what he feels. that's one thing nanami is absolutely certain of.
so when you nuzzle further into his chest tonight, the noise of the television fades into the background for nanami, and he finds himself leaning down to press his lips to the crown of your head where he whispers, so so softly, "I love you."
a part of him wishes you'd hear it, surprise him by opening your eyes and smiling up at him. maybe tell him you love him, too. but your soft and even breaths tell him you're deep into dreamland.
'that's alright,' he thinks. because he's certain of his love for you, and he's sure that one day he'll be brave enough to tell you just how certain he is.
